You should try the vernicompost set up that’s in contact with the soil, three layers 1 cm galvanised mesh between each layer. It’s far far better than the enclosed systems. I teach it as part of a stop food race program in Ireland
Thank you for your video. I have been contemplating having a worm bin outside but was worried that it would get too cold for the worms to survive it’s clear they will be ok.
Your vermicompost looks great. I have never used it for the pepper plants. In case I decide to grow worms, I need to solve the overwintering issue. Our worms must dig down much deeper since we have much lower temperatures.
If you balance what you are adding..you will be able to maintain a warm enough temperature for the worms. We had freezing temperatures for over a week, and the worms did fine
I sow you whant use used coffe, dont use too much because they eleveted the acid on the final composing. You can use coffe powder too grow Mushrom the for cooking.
Used coffee grounds are not as acidic as fresh. I've tested the pH and they are good to go. Fresh coffee grounds...I agree, don't put fresh coffee grounds in there..
Hi Shaun, That's it.. I'm gonna start my own worm farm..!! I bought 20L of vermicompost last week, put it through a fine sieve and found quite a few eggs and small worms. Thinking of using this 6 or7L as bedding for my container with some shredded cardboard and some barley straw, I will probably buy some tiger worms off ebay but they are quite expensive, about £7 for 50g (which wont be a lot). Do you think that should get me started? Great video as always, thanks again..!!

With the egg shells, I would suggest nuking them in the microwave. They should be dry when you put them in the bin. My guess is that is what is attracting the mice
