10:54 a fun anecdote about Labyrinth is the choreography was arranged by Gates McFaden of Star Trek Next Generation fame. She used to work behind the camera before she was in front of it. I watched 36 movies in August 2024, so I won't bore you with the whole list, but here are the standouts: Christopher Strong (1933) District 13 (2004) I Saw the TV Glow (2024) - Favorite first-time watch of the month! Klute (1971) The Last of Sheila (1973) Late Night with the Devil (2024) The Lodger (1927) - Vintage Hitchcock Peace by Chocolate (2021) - Rewatch. Love this movie. Own it on DVD.
this is the first video of yours that i've seen and i really enjoyed! added a ton of these to my watchlist. ive been trying to get into more "old" movies (40s/50s) so im glad u suggested some, and i'm especially excited about the westerns. subscribed:)
Twisters - Great IMAX experience! Everything, Everything, All At Once - (IMAX) Unique take on multiple universes. Does a great job of explaining to the audience the concept without giving away too much. A mix of "great movie" and "wtf and I watching?" The Bikeriders (rewatch) - (Blu-Ray) Just as great the second time. Acting is great. You really feel the emotions of all the characters. I like how the story is told through interviews that take place at different parts of the story they are telling. If that makes any sense. Rear Window - (theater) Good movie. Interesting how it is done all on 1 set. Unique take making a guy with a broken leg the main character.

Ryuichi Sakamoto and then David Bowie right after reminds me...did you ever watch Merry Christmas Mr. Lawrence?...a movie in which Ryuichi Sakamoto is obsessed with David Bowie?
If you dig the work of Charles Grodin, I’d definitely recommend Al Brooks’ “Real Life”. Very forward thinking film with regards to the future of entertainment, and Grodin is especially great in it.
Black Christmas doesnt get the credit it deserves for reviving the genre. People don't realize it inspired Halloween and therefor kickstarted the modern era of its genre. Wonderful work from Bob Clark
I watched all of The Most Popular Girls in School in like five days lol And I’ve been watching at least one movie every day these past few weeks, idk about anyone else here but that’s quite uncommon for me and I’ve really enjoyed it. I watched many Disney movies both animated - I adore Tangled, it’s so beautiful and probably one of my favourite films ever, I watched it twice last year as well and every time, I feel so happy; also, I will never forgive the general public for how you all treated Wish - and live-action - 2017 Beauty and the Beast is so magical and nostalgic for me and who was going to tell me Cruella was an absolute masterpiece???????! I also watched Top Gun - it’s fine, the general cosy vibe ‘80s movies does a lot of the work to make it feel enjoyable but I often felt like nothing was really happening and not in an “oh, young people these days have no attention spans” way - and Top Gun: Maverick - another absolute masterpiece. I liked all of Kenneth Branagh’s Poirot adaptations, maybe not having read the novels (or, in the third one’s case, a short story, I believe) yet helped me enjoy them more, I dunno. But my favourite is the one that appears to be generally considered the worst: Death on the Nile. It had glamour, which is a big part of why I liked Cruella so much, and Emma Mackey’s character is just fantastic, both in terms of her performance and her role in the story. And speaking of glamorous, I rewatched all of Bridgerton and once again, I have a controversial opinion in that the newest season is the best and the eighth episode of it is my favourite of them all so far. Philippa and Prudence have some hilarious moments (the first time I watched it, I laughed out loud at “Shall we discuss a budget?” - “Yes - it will need to be very, very large”), I really like the atmosphere of the scene where Penelope reveals herself to the ton and the ending was beautiful BUT if there’s one thing I have to critique it’s that I think it’s quite odd for the protagonists, Colin and Penelope, to have a son, as opposed to Penelope’s aforementioned sisters, who will inherit the Featherington estate due to his sex because the narrative is treating them benefiting from unfair, sexist laws (Prudence and Philippa’s daughters are most likely older than their cousin as they actually become pregnant during the season) as a reward and a happy ending, especially because I hear in the novel, their firstborn is a girl. But yeah, I enjoyed it overall, that was just came across as a bizarre choice but maybe they wouldn’t have done it if they’d taken more time to think about the... implications. Also, Jessica Madsen (Cressida) absolutely DEVOURED the line “You will pay me my sum or I will reveal your secret to the *entire ton*” or whatever it was. The acting in the show is generally very good. And also I watched some episodes of Gravity Falls and ALF, I think that’s everything lol

Great video! Cool recs. I started the month with Longlegs which was decent but definitely underwhelming, by a small margin it's hard to recommend. I saw Blow Out(!) which was just simple execution and great performances, a big throwback to the era in every way. I finally saw California Split which was a really, really cool movie, must-watch. I also finally saw There Will Be Blood too! And honestly I was a little underwhelmed. It was amazing don't get me wrong, but I guess the atmosphere, the lead didn't connect with me so much. Phantom Thread I connected with even a little more and that is also lower on my PTA list than Licorice Pizza (1), The Master (2), Punch Drunk Love, and even Hard Eight. Which I finally got the chance to watch as well; Hard Eight was an interesting movie, would give it a light recommend with a 6.5-7/10 difficulty. I also saw Didi and even though I really couldn't relate to it at all personally, especially the lying, it was fantastic, I would definitely recommend. Deadpool & Wolverine was great but not flawless, the action was pretty mid to be honest and it was missing some kind of spice in general even though the humor and narrative were good, and the villain plot fell flat in the end. Trying to see Between the Temples, The Wasp, and Strange Darling today on my day off, they look fun. Sugarcane tomorrow maybe.

Heyy I watched They Live as well. Its a good time 👌🏼
I watched 36 movies in August 2024, so I won't bore you with the whole list, but here are the standouts:
Christopher Strong (1933)
District 13 (2004)
I Saw the TV Glow (2024) - Favorite first-time watch of the month!
Klute (1971)
The Last of Sheila (1973)
Late Night with the Devil (2024)
The Lodger (1927) - Vintage Hitchcock
Peace by Chocolate (2021) - Rewatch.
Coda and Labyrinth back-to-back. Ryuichi Sakamoto and David Bowie were together in Merry Christmas Mr Lawrence.🎉🎉🎉
Twisters - Great IMAX experience!
Everything, Everything, All At Once - (IMAX) Unique take on multiple universes. Does a great job of explaining to the audience the concept without giving away too much. A mix of "great movie" and "wtf and I watching?"
The Bikeriders (rewatch) - (Blu-Ray) Just as great the second time.
Recently watched Playtime for the first time ever and wow man what an astounding achievement of a movie, every frame is so full of life and the sets are so impressive, some of the gags were brilliant I'm definitely going to watch more Tati, you can tell he inspired Rowan Atkinson and Wes Anderson massively.
Love black Christmas, back in my drinking days that was my go to movie!!!
LOVE vewn, the artist behind the adult swim short- tons of great animations up on youtube
8:06 and 11:03 I loved the appreciation and support you gave to indie animation projects in this video!
Support Julian Glander and vewn, they make great animations!
8:06 I think I would have loved the Stargaze channel when I was a kid but I've heard of kids having nightmares about falling through gas giants.
I kinda just didn't watch anything last month, until last night, when I watched Inside Out 2. Maybe it's just because I had very low expectations, but I thought it was very good. One of the better pixar sequels
Highly recommend you check out a film called Pan’s Labyrinth by Guillermo Del Toro. It’s my personal favorite movie, and is overall phenomenal.

If you dig the work of Charles Grodin, I’d definitely recommend Al Brooks’ “Real Life”. Very forward thinking film with regards to the future of entertainment, and Grodin is especially great in it.
In August, I watched Detective Conan Movie 27, Alien Romulus, Aliens 1&2, Inside Out, and LongLegs
Black Christmas doesnt get the credit it deserves for reviving the genre. People don't realize it inspired Halloween and therefor kickstarted the modern era of its genre. Wonderful work from Bob Clark
I watched all of The Most Popular Girls in School in like five days lol
And I’ve been watching at least one movie every day these past few weeks, idk about anyone else here but that’s quite uncommon for me and I’ve really enjoyed it.
And also I watched some episodes of Gravity Falls and ALF, I think that’s everything lol
werner herzog loves viva zapata. labelled it an "essential film"
I recently watched *A Fistful of Dollars* and oh boy I fell in love with the film, it was pure cinema for me 🍑

They're all from 1934 bc I'm trying to watch all Best Picture nominees in chronological order. Unsurprisingly they're mostly trash.

Month 2 of asking to watch GHOSTLIGHT, it’s pretty good
Could you talk about/analyze Wes Anderson's films sometime maybe?

Trap
