Also there was huge mistrust between north and south. In the beggining it was balanced, but as compromises were held also free states appeared more making southern states feel opressed. Lincoln's precidency was the final straw

well he did expect by "quarintining" slavery it would disappear eventually.
Yeah he only said he wanted to free the slaves as a way of giving the Yankees a morale boost and a reason to fight the war in 1863.
