  • My Dad gifted my this Beautiful Hammond M3 before he passed. I've cleaned her up and decided to record a little Jazz tune in the spirit of Jimmy Smith and Wes Montgomery, just two of my favorite "old timey" jazz players that my Dad and I used to listen to.

Great playing and what a dad you must have had. In my long ago past I owned an M3 that I ran through a pair of 122 Leslies. And you got a great groove just off the console speaker. Felt so nostalgic seeing the M3

I gain further appreciation for the instrument as time passes and so do my kids! To think that it's over 60 years old and I've only had to replace one tube (the percussion volume tube last year which still said hammond on it!).. Oh, and it's Xmas now, the time of year we oil it. Always a fun little teaching moment when I let my kids oil it and fire it up. The smell is something I don't think I want to live without haha

I got an M3 for free off Facebook Marketplace. It had one owner before me and the original owner died several years back and it hadn't been oiled in at least 8 years I would think. When I tested it, the only thing that worked was the amplifier. After a lot of work and oil, it worked. And it sounds amazing! Nice video too, I like the walking bassline.

      That's awesome! My dad always
said, there's nothing on these that you cant find parts for or fix with a little oil. Thanks for the note!

@@patroche1266 They call it the "Baby B3" for a reason. I also have a Hammond L102 from 1963 and the M3 is from 1958. I like seeing that the spinet organs from Hammond are a lot cheaper, but sound just as good! Until the T100 came out because it is all solid state with no tonewheels. Did you know, the band Boston used the Hammond M3 for recording the intro to Foreplay?

I’m learning piano and accordion, but I may have to try the Hammond organ as well. This is inspiring. Great work!

Thank you and nope. M3 speaker was recorded w a Neumann tlm102 like 12 inches off the floor right behind where I'm sitting and an audix dynamic mix at the grill, then guitar was di through a logic pro amp sim and bass was just di through a tonebeast preamp.

43.25" L x 25.5" W x 35" H Weighs about 250lbs. Thank you for the comment :) The best thing about music is to let out the emotions. I'm doing well now, thank you :) The Hammond Jazz tunes of yesterday just have that magical feeling to them. I always wanted to do a Trio like Wes and Jimmy but had nobody to play with so this is 34 yo me trying my hand at it :)

Good luck with the transfer! A few friends and I almost died moving this in the basement hahah Get a good set of piano dollies if you can find them. Let me know how it goes! I still need to add a 1/4" output from mine, I just mic'd this up, both close mic and a condenser sitting behind me for this song..
