- MASTERCLASS 8: This lesson on The 'Caged System' explains how to use the 5 open chord shapes; C,A,G,E,D up and down the fret board to create different chord inversions. Without this system, George Harrison would never have written Here Comes The Sun! It's something you really need to know so download your free paperwork and learn something that's really going to enhance your playing: Here's the link: www.bluenotegu...
Thank you Rob. U are one of the great music teachers. I am very grateful to learn from you.
For nearly a year now have been trying to make some sense of the CAGED system given up several times with no hope of learning this.
Seen this video and within 5 minutes of Rob explaining in simple terms everything fell into place sort of.
At least now I can see the basic bones of this system and how it is supposed to work.
Thanks Rob
Learning here comes the Sun at the moment.
Just finished the Two of us.

Something has just clicked . Books etc . Now I get it. Taught and explained with simplicity. A very grateful thanks Rob . David
Really interesting Rob you make it sound so easy 😅
Your lessons are by far, the most fun I've encountered on my guitar journey. Thank you, Rob. GT
I want to hear your story! 50 years!!! Wow!
I agree please don’t stop beginner classes 🙏🙏🙏🙏
Another great lesson rob! Been doing this, empirically for years, but explained by you, perfect.
Have you considered doing a lesson on the 'L' shape of Bar chords in a key, i.e. C barred at the 3rd fret, (A shape), G barred at the 3rd fret, (E shape), and F barred at the 1st, E shape.
When I discovered this, I found it really liberating, but I'm sure you could explain it way better than I ever could, ( amazingly, works with minor chords too).
Please keep doing what you're doing, you're a breath of fresh air, in a maze of internet tutors who seem to be there for their benefit more than anything else.
👍👍
Many thanks ,Rob . Very nicely and simply explained . I have previously attempted to learn the ,CAGED system from other channels . They may as well have been talking Chinese . Thanks for the capo tip as well , I broke my left forefinger many years ago , and it set permanently curved , so about as much use as a handbrake on a canoe . Thanks again , I feel some practice coming on . Take care , and catch you soon .
I'm sorry to hear this series is coming to an end.
But I am grateful that you blessed us w/ these 8 videos.
Every Saturday I put up a new tutorial so do look out for them. 👍🏻
I've been trying to find out what the "Caged" system was for ages...didn't realise it was that "simple"
Thanks mate
Pass it on! 👍🏻😎
I’ve watched a few videos on the caged system but this one is bar far the easiest to understand, well explained, I still think though if you play say a D up the neck and it sounds just like the D on the 2nd fret why not just play the normal one on the second fret, it sounds just the same, I agree though it’s good to learn the caged system as it will help when playing lead guitar, thanks rob for this 👍
As always Rob, the lesson was brilliant. It’s no wonder you get so many positive responses. I hope that sometime in the near future, we will be seeing more beginner videos. Many thanks, Gary. 😊
Thanks!
Great lesson ! Smooth delivery!
Great lessons😊👍🎼
Awesome as usual. Please keep up the beginner series, it makes things seem so much more achievable. A huge thanks mate. Jeffnz
Rob, in 1984 aged 17 I got a book called How To Play Guitar in Hessys. I plinked and plonked for five years then gave up when I met my future wife. I’ve always had a guitar, and knew a few chord shapes, but never put the effort in to understand the book. Your videos have reignited a passion. Thank you so much. I wish I could’ve sat with you for an hour in the Skelhorne St Bus station caff back in 1984, you would’ve save me 40 years of grief 😅
Great, as always. Please don't stop beginner classes!
what a bloody great video. I love the way you explain. I have watched god knows how many video's about the caged system, but because I'm thick, I just couldn't get it. Thanks a lot. love your channel. Keep on rocking.
Great video, I have spent many many years trying to learn the caged system using my index finger, using a capo makes much more sense thank you 👍🏼
Thanks Rob!! Well explained in simply terms as usual!!! Really enjoyed all of these Masterclasses..👍🎸🎸🎸
With the popularity of the CA.G.E.D system being taught. I think the way chords are being taught should also change. And that would be to have the Index Finger free to Barre. So a C Chord would be Middle , Ring and Pinky. If you have been playing the C for year the regular way with the Index on 2nd fret of the B. Making that Barre is real hard.
Always on the lookout for your latest video...great stuff
Just loving these master classes, thanks Rob
Really cool video! Thank you! I have seen references to the CAGED System but thought it was about the Circle of 5ths.! LOl.
Thanks Rob, lightbulb moment 💡 much appreciated yet again 😎
Another educational and entertaining video lesson! Thanks Rob
Thanks for the golden nuggets! Love these lessons so much! See you on Saturday. 🎉
‘Chicken wire?’ 😎
Thanks Rob. 👍
Thanks so much, that is the best explanation of the CAGED system I have seen so far 💯😃👍
Great lesson, thank you - I’ve played for years (self taught!) and never understood what the caged system was!🤦♀️
Great lesson Rob !
Great work
I’m 56 and been playing since January a year ago. I call it my old-timers therapy.
This lesson really help with CAGED 👍🫵
Brilliant Sir. That was great. Many thanks. Kind Regards from Belfast.
Love your teaching Rob and Scouse comedy too🤗🎼
Simplistic brilliance
great explanation love it
Well, that puts that one to bed for me! What was once a load of gobbledegook to me now makes so much sense! I really want to watch your Live Stream on Saturday but am supporting a live gig at our caravan site (where we have a caravan!) but presumably I can watch it next week sometime?
Great lesson, Rob. A good few things dropped into place from this. One thing I am struggling with though is the finger positions in the C shape where you explained the MK progression in Sultans. I've watched that section several times but I seem to have a blind spot in understanding that. Can't make it sound anything like those chord tones. Not sure what I'm missing. It would be appreciated if you could spell out the finger/fret positions so I can see what I am doing wrong. No worries if you have moved on from this. It will force me to work it out.
Ahah!!! Penny dropped. (just by paying attention to explanation 😁)
Very useful 👌 thanks Rob
Thanks
Simples ! 👍
Great, thank you Rob. BTW, what brand of capo are using here and in most of your videos? Many bluegrass songs are in the key of G or A. Play G C D, add a capo, and you’ve got most songs covered!
Who new???? Well I do now. Thanks Rob.
Do you know the song ‘The Prayer ‘ I thing it’s a beautiful music and I have watched many guitar players on TH-cam play it but I just can’t even start playing it as there is know one who teaches it. Could you possibly help as I’ve always wanted to finger pick it , thankyou Donna.
The mostly chords in this video were major-chords. Does the caged-system works the same way with minor-chords?
Does the caged-system help when I want to tab a song of a band into an instrumental piece?
👍😉😎
Suggestion Rob do shorter tutorials for beginners..
I’ve done eight for beginners now Rog, now it’s back to the more advanced stuff. There are some great sites out there specifically designed for beginners. 👍🏻
note to all tutorial makers: we know what the subject is coz there's a title - we don't need wordy intros, just get straight into the content
Thanks!
Thanks!
