If you have a layer selected and you search for an effect to apply to the layer then in your effects and presets tab when you find the effect all you have to do is double click on it and it will be applied to the layer. You don't need to drag and drop. We've always been able to do this.

The shortcut for the pen tool is 'G' on the keyboard. Also, the selection tool is the shortcut 'V'. It is convenient to use the G and V keys alternately.
Don't feel like Roughen Edges/Fractal noise/Colorama was really that neccessary but overall looks awesome. I've used saber many times but as single effect and not duplicating it with different settings. Great job man!

I am still very new to After effects. What action did you use to add/show only the keyframes to the work section below? I ended up expanding the entire menus, but the way shown in the tutorial would be easier to access.
Hello. The shortcut key to show only keyframes is 'U' on the keyboard. Other than that, position is P on the keyboard, rotation is R, scale is S, and mask is M.

Very helpful! Original tutorial from Video Copilot uses blending mode "screen" and I got problem with white background. This video solved my problem. Excellent job~
Thanks for tutorial. When I duplicate saber for the first time and change render settings to composite add/disable it adds a black background so when I press toggle for transparency view I can see a black background for a couple of moments and it looks not right. Basically speaking when I add this effect on the other video I can see black background for few moments. Please advise how to solve this issue. Many thanks.

Keeping the mask line from going off screen solves the problem. If the mask line goes out of the screen even a little bit, black flickering occurs.
