The Poolbeg power station was the third one in the area. The first was the original Pigeon House generating station, or Dublin Corporation Electricity Works as it is called in the plaque of 1902 (at 45-50 seconds). Next was the post-war station which was renamed from Pigeon House to Ringsend in the 1970s. Finally Pigeon House "B", which became Poolbeg when it started operation about 1972 in two phases (that's why there were two chimneys). Recently Ringsend was named Dublin Bay Power, consequent on the break-up of the energy market. The modern gas fired station at Shellybanks, just beyond the disused Poolbeg station, is probably unknown to most Dubliners.
What a perfect name "Lyrics" Murphy, Mr "Lyrics" Murphy is a man that I could listen to for a long, long time as he told his stories of long ago and brought the past into the present time by telling his stories of when he was a younger man during hard times. Brute, Force & Ignorance he said, My brothers and I were very lucky people to have got to see the brilliant hard rocking blues man Rory Gallagher play live many times (not enough times) Rory was a gale force 12 when he hit the stage he jumped, dance and slide all across the stage from left to right like a streak of lightening as he played Brute, Force & Ignorance from his album Photo-Finish, I know that God has rewarded Rory fully for the music he made, recorded and played live, Rory gave the greatest joy to millions of people

No one here in the US seems to have nicknames anymore, except maybe Mexican-Americans. Something about the Spanish language can be brutal, sweet and funny all at the same time.

Nice little video.
Exellent, very interesting
Apparently the Yacht Tavern in Ringsend has copies of a list of the nicknames that Lyrics Murphy compiled for them many years ago.
That would be something special, to get a copy Lyrics Murphy list of the nicknames, there must be some beauties on that list

It'd be a rare ship that comes from Timbuktu though
When it finally docks it will be full of rare and wonderful things that come all the way from Timbuktu
The usual. Promoting the southside of Dublin. This is the origin of our problem now.
The Blades....
That guy has an immigrant on his nose !.
They're popping out from everywhere these days
When Raytown was Irish
Full of black and paki thanks you Leo vantag
