I think he's telling the story of the old man sitting by himself in the room, because his wife died of cancer. Everyone there all represent their life together in the stages that he sings about during the song. On the couch next to the man is a younger couple that are in love and beside them a is a girl sitting by herself reading a book. She wasn't paying attention to him singing because she wasn't expecting to find love on that day. As the song goes on it introduces the couple with a baby and the camera alternates shots of them a the old man, placing emphasis of the wedding rings. This song is absolutely beautiful.

I don't think I've ever heard such a blissful song end on such a somber note. It's magnificent. It tears your heart out, gently pulling you through the exact emotions on how surprising a happy romance can be at every turn, whilst still reminding you that even the purest hearts and best intentions will eventually surprise you to the and in the end. No other song out there blended simplicity, beauty, and sorrow in such a poetic manner.
I first heard this song when you sung it at Ed's concert, and I love it it's so catchy, great job Jamie x.

A month turned into a year and I'm still obsessed with this song 😍
I fell in love for the first time nine years ago and lost the same young man to a painful, very unfair battle to Cancer. Going from falling in love to not being able to hug someone because of the physical pain can really mess with ones mind - I indeed certainly 'wasn't expecting that', but know that he'd be proud of me making music and sharing stories like Jamie has done with this song. I don't know if this song has a back story or if it's purely fictional as many touching songs are, but thanks very much for this Jamie, here's hoping my third album can have a hit like this, hehe.

Sorry to hear about your Mum. I lost my Mum 1 year and 4 months ago to lung cancer. We played this song at her funeral, for my Dad and her. They'd been married for 35 years and had 3 kids (including myself). I would like to say it gets easier as the time goes on, but it doesn't. I'm in my second year since she passed, and it still feels like yesterday that I got that phone call, that split my heart into two.
That ending brings me close to tears every time. Incredible song.
I wasn't expecting to cry listening to this song. It's like Small Bump all over again; such a beautiful song that you can't help but smile to the entire time... until the last few seconds when, in an instant, your heart breaks. I wasn't expecting this to become the song I've been listening to on repeat for the past three days. I certainly wasn't expecting to have to try, quite hard, not to cry listening to it, even though now I know how it ends.
Beautiful song, definitely one of my new favourites. So much so, that I've already pre ordered the album. October can't come fast enough.

What a beautiful song that takes you on a journey. It wasn't until I listened a few times that I worked out the ending. What a beautiful tribute to a relationship that unexpectedly happens and grows each day, puts a whole new meaning to death do us part. Sung beautifully by Jamie his expression and the video so real.

The lyrics seems like from our family. My dad and mum have 3 kids and we have pretty much grown up and mum got diagnosed with cancer. Then she was in remission for about 2 yrs but it came back and a year or two we saw her close her eyes the last time.
