Depends if I'm already used to ride on these components, I can feel the difference when I take other people's bike since they are most often not well maintained 😂😅
I want to buy a new fork but dont know how much travel I can fit. its a 2021 Giant Stance E+1 625 29er. Giant is useless in getting the answer. Currently have 130mm can I go 150mm. added a 2 degree slack headset also. Rear is 120mm.
Affordability: Shimano and Rockshox, because they have components that are somehow affordable for someone like me that is dedicated to the sport, but doesn't have that much money to spend on parts.
I go either way with Fox or RS. I own both on several bikes. As for drivetrain, mostly Shimano on my bikes. I only have one SRAM bike. They both have their pluses and minuses.
First was the RS-1. It was released in 1989, revolutionizing mountain biking by introducing a lightweight, oil-damped air suspension fork designed for off-road use.
I just met someone who has them (Pedulim) . He said they are expensive, but we'll worth the money he said his feet stay on them like he was clipped in.
I find Fox/Marz firmer off the top, so I find more confidence inspiring for me. I think the newer iterations of RS have addressed that a bit but I kept fighting my last RS fork to get the feel I want and still having the full use of all the travel.
The entry level of Shimano is way better than SRAM in my opinion.. high end stuff is pretty close between the two brands. Brake's I think I prefer Shimano.
Shimano > SRAM in pretty much every way. RS versus Fox is more of a toss up to me, but I would lean RS because getting a full service is usually easier.
I find it hard to believe Lewis got the strength of that crank arm perfect first time, even “the original company” had a few reports of failures when they released them.
I really like my AXS over mechanical transmission. I love my Fox 38. I absolutely love my EXT E-Storia. Edit: I love the Death Grip flanged. My hands butt right up to the flange and my hands are perfect everytime.
#quiz RS-1 1990... though some sources say 1989. Side note, in reference to your earlier comment the current RS-1 is an upsidedown fork. Also... Sram Eagle is now 10-52 and Shimano is only 10-51.
After watching Owens vid on bike sizings i was already thinking about upgrading my pedals and cranks. I eally like the idea behind the Outlander Pendulum flat pedals...was wondering what Owens' opinion of running those pedals and swapping out my 170mm cranks for 165's??
Suspension: Fox. Entry level Fox feels much better than midrange rockshox in my opinion at the same price. Brakes: Shimano. They just work great and are more dependable - entry level to high end. Mineral oil is less maintenance. Also I like the XT levers very much. Gears: Sram - they just look much sexier. And I like the Shifters better. :D
As far as the forks, I don't have a preference. Brakes and gears Shimano. The brakes are purely because they generally use mineral oil. The gears I find Shimano smother shifting than Sram. But really, it all up to the personal preference of the rider. They are all good products.
The shimano shifter on my $300 schwinn shifts faster than my sram eagle gx by a long shot… and the trigger up shift is loads better than thumb up thumb down…
Honestly I'm sure not alot of people know this but all of rockshox fork lowers are throw away when the bushings go bad is why I prefer fox cheaper to service in the longer run and more modular.
Doesnt matter which brand as long as they work well, reasonably priced, and easy to get parts. But i have multiple bikes so I prefer to stick to 1 brand of drivetrain, suspension and tires for interchangeability
I'm close to giving up mtb. Taken 3 weeks to order a calliper adapter, posted from about 50 miles away. Gave up waiting. Seems to be happening all the time with bike parts. Bike shops don't stock many parts these days, leaving the internet only. I have money, just no service available to buy.
We do mention the new EXT forks in the news - and yeah we tried to stay just in the mainstream with the brands - as well we could have been trapped just naming all the other suspension brands - so no slight on them at all more theres a lot of brands to cover What suspension are you a big fan for and which shifters click for you? Cheers Owen
Well…despite my mention of those brands, I’m running Marzocchi Bombers and Fox rear shock at the moment, but have had just as much fun on RS and DVO, not to mention the better Suntour stuff. From a shifter perspective, I’m a Shimano XT guy all day long. Old habits die hard. Been a Shimano guy since the 90’s.
Did Owen forget the Magura had wireless electronic suspension. Not sure if Fox was first with electronic suspension. I can't remember what the Magura suspension was called.
You quite right that Magura did have electronic suspension - I had search it was called - "eLECT" - but K2 had a system earlier & Cannondale had couple of electronic systems too! Great nerd knowledge - though! Cheers Owen

Shram all the way i like fox not ridden a high end air roxshox so cant compare! If im building a bike i would put Z2’s on it! They look cooler then the fox and is basically a fox rythm

Shimano stoppers microspline drive train rockshox fork trans X dropper with specialized tires on the hardtail. Shimano stoppers shimano hg drivetrain and shifters Marzocchi and fox suspension with maxxis tires on the fs. Prefer the feel of shimano brakes for my style of riding, shimano drivetrain came on the fs and I like it just fine, went with microspline to try it out on the hardtail and have been very impressed with how sturdy it has proven to be and very snappy and positive feel.
Do you think you could guess bike parts without looking?
No.... Maybe brake levers but def not suspension. Not even if I was riding the bike. Its all just squishy to me.
Depends if I'm already used to ride on these components, I can feel the difference when I take other people's bike since they are most often not well maintained 😂😅

Yep, no problem. Can't say I'll get it right though
Love the glasses over the blindfold 😂

Shimano and Rockshox, because they have components that are somehow affordable for someone like me that is dedicated to the sport, but doesn't have that much money to spend on parts.
Shimano brakes + Rockshox suspension ❤

I have shimano drive train. Magura brake, fox fork, Rockshox coil rear and Mx wheels. 🤷🏽♂️
Very entertaining duo great job 😅
The 1st Rockshox suspension fork was the RS-1. It was released in 1990.
SRAM Eagle's biggest cassette is actually 10-52t, not 10-50t.
Paradox. 10-50 better like 10-52. (Not GX, 10-50 GX cassete is shit)
I'm a suntour person 😂
People who stick to a brand or even worse the two major players don't know what they are missing. It's a jungle out there... 😅
Yes, jungle. And that is why the absolute majority lives either in cities or villages and never go out in the wild.
£300 for some pedals with most of the pedal missing!! I think they've confused Black Friday and April first.
Whatever, it's a huge success. They can't even fulfill orders, they're at round 3 of pre-orders and currently getting close to 2026 if you want some.
299$ Canadian, 215$ USD
I paid 220$ Canadian for chromag pedals twice so not far off...
@@LaurentiusTriariusI saw loam rangers video about it and call me a fool but..... I'm sold, they look excellent and make sense as well

Fox suspension, AXS gears and dropper, Trickstuff brakes but I have got some Mavens on my DH and they are really good👍🏻 never used any Shimano🤔🤷🏼♂️

Owen in 6 months opening the show
All this and much much much, much much, much much much much much more😂
The first RockShox suspension fork was the RS-1. RS opened in 1989. But, the fork came out in 1990.
Owen, in another video saying “shivers”. From an American who worked for wonderful colleagues at a British company….😂 hilarious
#quiz - First Rockshox fork was the RS-1 in 1990 (though Greg Herbold was racing on a prototype in late 1989...)
Shimano > SRAM in pretty much every way. RS versus Fox is more of a toss up to me, but I would lean RS because getting a full service is usually easier.
Some say 1989, some say 1990 but it was the RS1 that got the wheels rolling.
#quiz - First Rockshox fork was in 1990 RS-1 50mm travel. I was making presentation not so long ago about it.
I find it hard to believe Lewis got the strength of that crank arm perfect first time, even “the original company” had a few reports of failures when they released them.
Brakes: Trickstuff, front sus: Lefty, rear shock: Fox, gears: Ingrid+Garbaruk. 😅
The rear shock is too mainstream, why not opt for something like an EXT, or PUSH. Or Intend?
I tend to feel a bit of RockShox loyalty, but I’m always a little starstruck by the shiny Kashima coating…
April 1st comes early. That pedal
Watch the Loam Ranger video about how good they actually are, he answers most of the concerns people might have.

Fox just feel that little bit plusher in the initial part of the stroke to me.
Meh that's a very wide & vague statement.
People often say that but it depends what model of fox forks against what other model and brand of fork.
Every Rockshox fork I had the adjustments felt like they don't do anything. All my Fox forks you can tell the adjustments.
Rockshox. I service my own stuff and they're way simpler to rebuild than the kashima babies, plus shiny Zeb ultimates look super sexy on any bike
Sram vs Shimano I'm cool with both. Fox vs Rockshox depends on the discipline. If manitou was in the mix manitou for suspension. 👍
Manitou - are well and truly still in the Mix!
