Chapter 1 - Little Kulala, Namibia

In 2010, the first stop on a tour of Southern Africa with Pilates PC-12 aircraft is Little Kulala, a luxurious camp near the famous Sossusvlei. At Sossusvlei, we get a good understanding of the forces that shaped Namibia's most popular tourist destination. Not far from Sossusvlei is Sesriem Canyon, another geological oddity. It is a natural canyon carved by the Tsauchab river in the local sedimentary rock, about one kilometer long and up to 30 meters deep. The canyon is only two meters wide in some places, and has a portion that permanently contains water, which many animals use. A highlight of the stop was a balloon ride over the Namib desert at dawn.
