In my case, just "wipe data/factory reset" didn't do the trick. So, I first used the "wipe cache partition" option in the Recovery Mode and then did "wipe data/factory reset". This did the trick. Thanks a bunch for sharing these steps. :)
If your phone doesn't show the green robot saying "Erasing" when it's at the "wiping data" part and it seems stuck at that stage, don't panic! Mine was stuck there for about 20 minutes not doing anything, but I just plugged in the charger and left it alone and it finally finished. Also, after I chose "reboot system now" it took about five minutes of the flying dots before it finally turned back on (much longer once again than his took in the video)
I've been trying every other method that I've seen on TH-cam and I'm trying to do this factory reset this is the only one that worked right here this one

I am looking for a factor restore (like you said, from time to time just to refresh my phone and speed) I have recently got the lollipop and when i follow your instructions, it gets to the part where it says, no command. (nothing at the top that says reboot now) then it freezes with no command showing. I long hold power and lollipop comes right back as if nothing happened. all apps and pictures everything still there. i have already backed up what i wanted. just want to clean my phone and start over any help, i would like to clean my phone, then reinstall what i want. cheers. Akshaya Lakshmi Go watch my other videos on how to install the ADT bundle. Then you can connect your phone to your PC and watch my other video how to install google factory image. It requires a few steps and some time to do it correctly but it should fix your problem. Hopefully you have all of your stuff backed up because it will wipe out your phone to complete this process, but it works..

Hey i need to do a backup before I do a factory reset but my phone won't turn on. Is there any way I could make a back up even on PC or anywhere with my nexus 5 switched off . And I tired doing the factory reset but as soon as I leave the volume keys and the power button the screen just vanishes

Vicente Nexus I used adb to sideload an image of Lollipop into my phone from a Linux machine (you can also do it on Windows). I didn't need any root permissions on the phone.
My idiot friend thought it was funny to change my password and forget what he changed it to. I went to tmobile thinking that was better than me trying to fix it. They googled it twice and couldnt figure it out. Took me 2 minutes to find this and im done. Thank you!

+Zaulo you could try it again and see if it works sometimes it takes a couple of tries if not you might need to actually force flash your device with the image maybe your recovery partition is damaged or there may be another issue it should normally work most of the time
I successfully reset and wiped the data, but it didn't say "reboot system now" or anything when it was done. It showed me the android guy again, and it stayed there a while, but no options. My phone still cant turn on
The only thing I can think is they updated this now and it might not be the same exact process as I show in the video for everyone now since this video is several years old
Jamie Wagner ,, kindly help me ..my nexus 5 doent swtich on...when I have it plugged in to the charger, the device will flash the white Google logo for a second, vibrate once, then shut off.... it will repeat this process infinitely (without my interference... it just repeats showing the google logo, turns off, back on etc). When I hold down the volume button, I'll see the android robot for a moment, long enough to scroll up or down one time before it turns off and repeats the odd cycle. When I remove the charger from the device... it does nothing.... is there anything I can do?? Please help..... i tried pressing the power button too for long ... it doent work ,,, pls help

Hi, the android recovery is just a bootable partition that has the recovery console installed. It allows you some options and to restore your phone back to factory condition. When you first purchased it.
Getting into recovery mode doesn't work for me. I can get up to 3:00 fine, but holding power and tapping the up volume and releasing both just gets me back into boot loop with "Google" on and off the screen.
Make sure you try it a couple of times sometimes it’s tricky to get into unless they’ve changed something and maybe it’s been updated it may be another method

It sounds like it might be, you can always try and unlock the bootloader and flash the factory firmware on it. That's like the last resort before you would have to send it back for warranty.

Hi Jamie, The security patch for Stagefright issue for my Nexus 5 weighing around 16.1 mb fails whenever i try to install it. Scott Nelson I have other videos on my channel for this. You can actually power off the phone and then boot into the recovery screen from a powered off state.

My nexus 5 is in a bootcycle. It only is in a bootcycle when it is charging. The boot that you do doesn't even work. The screen pops up but then the phone just shuts down and boots back up, just to do the same thing over and over again.. Any solutions?

Hi, thanks for the video. I have a Moto G and I had tried factory reset like you have done in this video. But after data wipe/factory reset, cache wipe and reboot system, my phone does not boot up. It just shows the initial Motorola logo, but that's it. No further boot animation. The screen stays put and does not even become black. Do you have any suggestion on what to do next? Thanks.
+prinx2203 Yes yo might have to go to motorola's support website to get the instructions. I think you can turn it off and then hold the power button in for so many seconds and then get into the bootloader that way if you can't access the phone settings. Then you can fix it. Yes you should be able to fix it.

Hello! What if a Nexus 5 is stuck at the google logo. Can i enter Fastboot, then unlock the bootloader (through ADB), flash CWM or TWRP and install CM12 (in order to remove the bootloop)? Pls answer. I found a cheap Nexus 5 for sale, because is stuck on boot. I know how root and stuff works, im not a total noob, but i only had HTC this far (my phone got stuck at the HTC logo, but i fixed it by reinstalling the rom), so i dunno if i could do the same on a Nexus.

i am stuck at this problem after trying a factory reset(i had issues with the new lolypop os and many forums recommended a factory reset) so now after following ur video..after the factory reset and waiting for the android with gear logo..for a while..a android with a red triangle appeared and at the bottom of the screen its saying (in yellowtext) E: failed to mount/cache(invalid argument) E: CANT MOUNT,... and many such error command.. so i pressed the power button and then the voume up to get to the boot menu where i cud do a factory rest..i selected format(erase) now its been over 15 min the phone is stuck at ---wiping data... formatiing /data......... im a bit worried ..is there any solution..shud i wait for sometime..or is there another way...PLSSS..HELP..THANK YOU!!!

Lester Jay Aguirre after selecting recovery mode, when you get to the menu that starts with "reboot system now," the 4th selection is "wipe cache partition." you can see it if you pause this video at 3:19. i have never done this, but i noticed it :) hope i helped

Hey. Thanks for the reply. I tried the Recovery Mode option. Then I selected the option for Wipe data / factory setting and then clicked on "Yes Delete all data". After that its showing me Fail to erase and Cant Mount. Post that its again taking me back to the option of Wipe Data / Factory Reset, etc.
I have a LG gen 3 phone and i turned it on and it is stuck in the boost mobile symbol. I tried to reset it and it said it has reseted but it still is stuck on the symbol. Do you have any advice for me. Thanks.
I don't have the LG gen 3 but I would look for more videos showing how to hard reset the LG gen 3. I'm sure there is a way to flash it back to stock. That should fix it. It really sounds like you need to flash it for sure, but you will need to research it some before trying to flash it.

+Zaulo you could try it again and see if it works sometimes it takes a couple of tries if not you might need to actually force flash your device with the image maybe your recovery partition is damaged or there may be another issue it should normally work most of the time

I successfully reset and wiped the data, but it didn't say "reboot system now" or anything when it was done. It showed me the android guy again, and it stayed there a while, but no options. My phone still cant turn on
The only thing I can think is they updated this now and it might not be the same exact process as I show in the video for everyone now since this video is several years old
Jamie Wagner ,, kindly help me ..my nexus 5 doent swtich on...when I have it plugged in to the charger, the device will flash the white Google logo for a second, vibrate once, then shut off.... it will repeat this process infinitely (without my interference... it just repeats showing the google logo, turns off, back on etc). When I hold down the volume button, I'll see the android robot for a moment, long enough to scroll up or down one time before it turns off and repeats the odd cycle. When I remove the charger from the device... it does nothing.... is there anything I can do?? Please help..... i tried pressing the power button too for long ... it doent work ,,, pls help

What do recovery mode means? What does it do to your phone?
Hi, the android recovery is just a bootable partition that has the recovery console installed. It allows you some options and to restore your phone back to factory condition. When you first purchased it.
Getting into recovery mode doesn't work for me.
I can get up to 3:00 fine, but holding power and tapping the up volume and releasing both just gets me back into boot loop with "Google" on and off the screen.
Make sure you try it a couple of times sometimes it’s tricky to get into unless they’ve changed something and maybe it’s been updated it may be another method

It sounds like it might be, you can always try and unlock the bootloader and flash the factory firmware on it. That's like the last resort before you would have to send it back for warranty.

I am currently on Android 5.1.1 & build no for my Nexus 5 is LMY48I. All my apps are upto date.
When I am check the android system recovery mode I am getting the following options:
1.Reboot system now
2.apply update from ADB
3.wipe data/factory reset
4.wipe cache partition
5.reboot to bootloader
6.power down
7.view recovery logs

My nexus 5 is in a bootcycle. It only is in a bootcycle when it is charging. The boot that you do doesn't even work. The screen pops up but then the phone just shuts down and boots back up, just to do the same thing over and over again..
Any solutions?
+Romaric You are going to have to manually flash it with the factory image to get around all that if it is stuck. At least that is what I recommend.

Hi, thanks for the video. I have a Moto G and I had tried factory reset like you have done in this video. But after data wipe/factory reset, cache wipe and reboot system, my phone does not boot up. It just shows the initial Motorola logo, but that's it. No further boot animation. The screen stays put and does not even become black. Do you have any suggestion on what to do next? Thanks.
+prinx2203 Yes yo might have to go to motorola's support website to get the instructions. I think you can turn it off and then hold the power button in for so many seconds and then get into the bootloader that way if you can't access the phone settings. Then you can fix it. Yes you should be able to fix it.

Hello! What if a Nexus 5 is stuck at the google logo. Can i enter Fastboot, then unlock the bootloader (through ADB), flash CWM or TWRP and install CM12 (in order to remove the bootloop)?

I know how root and stuff works, im not a total noob, but i only had HTC this far (my phone got stuck at the HTC logo, but i fixed it by reinstalling the rom), so i dunno if i could do the same on a Nexus.

i am stuck at this problem after trying a factory reset(i had issues with the new lolypop os and many forums recommended a factory reset) so now after following ur video..after the factory reset and waiting for the android with gear logo..for a while..a android with a red triangle appeared and at the bottom of the screen its saying (in yellowtext) E: failed to mount/cache(invalid argument)
E: CANT MOUNT,... and many such error command..
so i pressed the power button and then the voume up to get to the boot menu where i cud do a factory rest..i selected format(erase) now its been over 15 min the phone is stuck at ---wiping data...

Lester Jay Aguirre after selecting recovery mode, when you get to the menu that starts with "reboot system now," the 4th selection is "wipe cache partition." you can see it if you pause this video at 3:19. i have never done this, but i noticed it :) hope i helped

I've had trouble since upgrading my phone to lollypop. Phone just keeps re-booting. Have tried wiping/factory reset, however this does not work. Get error messages saying. E: faild to mount/ cache. Any advice?

Hey. Thanks for the reply. I tried the Recovery Mode option. Then I selected the option for Wipe data / factory setting and then clicked on "Yes Delete all data". After that its showing me Fail to erase and Cant Mount. Post that its again taking me back to the option of Wipe Data / Factory Reset, etc.

I don't have the LG gen 3 but I would look for more videos showing how to hard reset the LG gen 3. I'm sure there is a way to flash it back to stock. That should fix it. It really sounds like you need to flash it for sure, but you will need to research it some before trying to flash it.

I found the solution.... spam the power button. just keep pressing it as fast as you can until it boots. it really works.
