Speaking of history lessons, if I'm not mistaken, Psycho Soldier is actually the first in the history of gaming to have included a song with actual singing and lyrics in it.
That had to pull in some attention. I grew up near a large theme park with a huge arcade...every quarter that went into the Micheal Jackson "Moonwalker" game elicited the famous "HeeHee"sound..it sure didn't take long for everyone in the arcade to start doing it in unison each and everytime someone started a game. Same with Smash TV "I'll buy that for a dollar!" and then later with Maddog Mcree everyone would do the nervous guy's entire speech, and then his drawling "Youuu ooonnnlllyyy gooottt ooonnee liiifffee lefftttt." I never came across Psycho Soldier, but man, it would have really fit in!
I am really happy that SNK is bouncing back after years of struggle. KOF14 was really great and the new Samurai Shodown looks incredible! The gallery and especially the "watch" feature in this collection are really great additions! As for the singing, there are actually two versions of the song and the Japanese one (for the Japanese version of the game obviously!) is MUCH BETTER!

Especially in these old arcade games sometimes you get to see so many differences, like the level of violence or other elements that were altered or edited out, so having the ability to choose different regions would be a dream! Finally, after years emotional distraught I can patch the wound that Ikari Warriors: VR did to my chest playing it on the NES. Yes, these are tears of happiness!
I just got a Neo Geo AES this year, and a lot of the games on it had prequels that were on their own arcade cabinet before the Neo Geo was created; which is what this collections seems to be about: playing the prequels that weren't on the Neo Geo. If you played King Of Fighters and want to know where Athena, Sie Kensou, Clark, and Ralf came from, get this collection. If you played Alpha Mission 2 and want to play the 1st game, get this collection. If you played Prehistoric Isle 2 and want to play the 1st one, get this collection. If you played Dark Arms - Beast Buster for the Neo Geo Pocket and want to play the original light gun game (it was also one of Michael Jackson's favorite games) get this collection. I never played any of these games, so I know I will be getting my money's worth out of this collection by not already having any ports of these games. I usually don't like collection games and prefer to get the original games on their original systems to get the authentic way they were meant to be played. But since most of these games were made for the arcade, and you know how much space and money an arcade cabinet takes up, I'll make an exception for this collection.
Iron Tank on the NES was great, I never did make it to the end. Back in the days when you bought a game by the box art only, and just really hoped it didn't suck.
Vanguard?! That was one of my favourite games for the Atari 2600 when I was young. I didn't realize it was an arcade game first, and had no idea it was an SNK game. Pretty cool.

To me as a broke kid in the late 90's and early 2000's Metal Slug was my go to arcade when my mom took us to do Laundry at the laundromat. Oh man I lost so many quarters.

Psycho Soldier is an old favorite of mine. I absolutely LOVED it back in the day. It was the first arcade game I ever remember having a theme song with lyrics. I'm always glad when people learn about it. I've had the theme stuck in my head for 20+ years though: "She's just a little girl with power inside, burning bright. You'd better hide if you are baaaad, *CHICKEN FEET! She'll read your mind, and find, if, youuu beeelieve in right ooor wroooong!" *Okay, they (probably) don't actually say "CHICKEN FEET" in that line, but fuck if my girlfriend and I didn't ALWAYS sing it.

I remember when I was really little, sitting on the floor next to my dad while he played it and he even has beaten it. My dad is not into video games at all but something about Iron Tank and Bayou Billy he really loves
Wow!! A lot of these games I haven’t thought about since I was 10. Baseball Stars?? One of my all time fave NES games. My friends and I made a league with our own teams and custom players. It was so much fun, occasionally devolving into fist fights. Vanguard was an Atari classic. Wow! I used to love that one on the 2600.

I remember Ikari Warriors, and P.O.W in the arcade in my mall. The arcade was 2-Bit Operation and I have alot of great memories in there. It was a small arcade, but It had some great games. Nostalgia is whats gonna sell this game for me. Me and my friends loved playing Ikari Warriors and P.O.W. (also TMNT, Street Fighter 2, and Out Run, but those aren't SNK) $40 is a bit steep, but in the end, there is no price on nostalgia.

I'm a young guy, but I've been fascinated with SNK since I discovered the NeoGeo here on TH-cam, and I actually found a local arcade with one that I've been playing this year. I might just have to get this!

As I was born in the early 70s and grew up in the Arcade in the early 80s, I am their target audience for this collection. I wish other companies would do the same, but until then at least we have Arcade Archives and Sega Ages to bring the games.
I just ordered a copy all the way from Singapore today. It will be a month before it gets here but I will cherish it. Crystalis is my favorite NES game of all time. Thank you for pronouncing Crystalis the way I always did growing up. I still want to get a complete NES version some day...
On the last day of the school holidays the day before I started High School my mom and dad gave me a heap of quarters to go to my local arcade and have fun finishing out the holidays. The year was 1990 and I remember I played the hell out of Street Smart. What an awesome collection of nostalgia! Gonna grab this for sure.
I WAS just gonna buy the Arcade Archives Psycho Soldier after hearing the Smash remix of the theme song, but the Museum and Soundtrack menu in 40th Collection sold me
Ikari Warrior games in the arcade used a very particular rotational joystick, which allowed moving and rotating the character at the same time. One of the reasons why the NES port sucked was they had no way of replicating this effectively in the port. No mention on how is this handled in here...
When i was 8 years and younger. I never paid attention the makers of game. Just played them. Slowly put 2 and 2 together when i realized that my fav games had same publisher/developer.

Looks like a great game collection. I forgot about POW that was a favorite of mine and I used to play this at the arcade and if my parents knew i was playing a game with guns they would have flipped out, but the arcade was a great release from the hassles of childhood.
It sounds like the collection producers grabbed one of their assistants or office workers to quickly sing a translated version of the original Japanese song! That's really gr8!
This is how all collections should be put together, the attention to detail is amazing and has made it a wonderful way to preserve these games, a number of which were not playable on Mame. Prehistoric Isle is one of my favourite games from back in the day.

I love that SNK came out with a collection like this but I wish there was an option to buy Crystalis by itself on the eshop, a lot of the tank games I'll never play.
You really made me wanting to buy it. But don't forget that for kids and teens now, these games don't necessary look retro to them, they have tons of games in 2d with the "retro look" that is modern to them, and they like these type of games without playing them for history lessons.
A lot of these games I have played back in the 89 90's and some I have never played or knew about, and I love the portable side of it, and Im glad to see these games come back from the dead, I wish SNK would release this on PS4 that would be cool too. Cool review Bro.

Wild Fields is great, but I prefer Mt Sabre and Angry Sea. However, to be fair, the entire soundtrack is awesome.
The Psycho Soldier theme is quite the catchy little tune. KOF's done a number of remixes of it throughout the series.

I just ordered a copy all the way from Singapore today. It will be a month before it gets here but I will cherish it. Crystalis is my favorite NES game of all time. Thank you for pronouncing Crystalis the way I always did growing up. I still want to get a complete NES version some day...
On the last day of the school holidays the day before I started High School my mom and dad gave me a heap of quarters to go to my local arcade and have fun finishing out the holidays. The year was 1990 and I remember I played the hell out of Street Smart. What an awesome collection of nostalgia! Gonna grab this for sure.
POW was awesome... I have to get this. I loved Athena on the NES but never played the arcade version

I'm baffled with the massive amount of work put into this collection. Really well-done SNK. This is how you do classic collection.
Ikari Warrior games in the arcade used a very particular rotational joystick, which allowed moving and rotating the character at the same time. One of the reasons why the NES port sucked was they had no way of replicating this effectively in the port. No mention on how is this handled in here...

The Karate guy from Street Smart is actually a young MR. KARATE from the ART OF FIGHTING series. South Town has history. Lol
When i was 8 years and younger. I never paid attention the makers of game. Just played them. Slowly put 2 and 2 together when i realized that my fav games had same publisher/developer.

Looks like a great game collection. I forgot about POW that was a favorite of mine and I used to play this at the arcade and if my parents knew i was playing a game with guns they would have flipped out, but the arcade was a great release from the hassles of childhood.
It sounds like the collection producers grabbed one of their assistants or office workers to quickly sing a translated version of the original Japanese song! That's really gr8!
This is how all collections should be put together, the attention to detail is amazing and has made it a wonderful way to preserve these games, a number of which were not playable on Mame.
Prehistoric Isle is one of my favourite games from back in the day.
I remember playing some of these games on the original Nintendo and the arcades back in the 80s , I really like this collection from SNK

why snk don't included the 11 games in the switch cartridge ??? again dlc and digital games...!!! It's good that SNK makes free DLC , but for God's sake , why not put the 11 extra games on the Nintendo switch cartridge ???
They had some problems with the deadline and some of those games they didn't even knew there were functional arcades of them in good condition that they could dump

onimenokyo christy - I agree!!!! I want my games on physical media. They should have delayed the game in order to ensure that the entire game is on the Game Card. I will still buy the game though.

In the Psycho soldier game the music who are playing is the same of Athena in k.o.f 96 not 94,amazing.

Crystalis (Crysta-liss is how I've always said it) is a classic game for me. Also I totally forgot about P.O.W.! I remember playing that at the local Beckers as a kid. Gonna pick this collection up!

im 34 years old, and i grew up with Crystalis, and that games entire sound track kicks major and i mean major ass.
I love that SNK came out with a collection like this but I wish there was an option to buy Crystalis by itself on the eshop, a lot of the tank games I'll never play.
You really made me wanting to buy it. But don't forget that for kids and teens now, these games don't necessary look retro to them, they have tons of games in 2d with the "retro look" that is modern to them, and they like these type of games without playing them for history lessons.
A lot of these games I have played back in the 89 90's and some I have never played or knew about, and I love the portable side of it, and Im glad to see these games come back from the dead, I wish SNK would release this on PS4 that would be cool too. Cool review Bro.
ah yes, Can't wait to get this, I ordered the collector from NIS you got already so many cool games in the collection plus future DLC (which are free I think) will add even more games.
I will be able to play some classic I love so much like Crystalis and Athena and I can discover new games from SNK I did not even knew about .
