Both are forced to use openings to see how robust they are in a variety of different states. It can show how well they can do in suboptimal situations and how adaptive they are, otherwise it would literally just be one identical game where nobody learns anything
19:48 kd2 actually makes a lot of sense because it defends the pawn on d5. the previous move, qc7 threatened bxd5 by pinning the c4 pawn. the only other moves to defend the d4 pawn would be kb2, which runs into future problems with rab8, or one of three knight moves (nf6, nc2, nb3) all of which move the knight to a much less active square than d5. An interesting move to look at could be nc6, which still loses the d5 pawn after nxc6, dxc6, and either qxc6 or bxc6, but gives stockfish an open d file, however stockfish probably didn't consider that adequate compensation for sacrificing an incredibly important pawn and trading off a very well placed knight. tl;dr: kd2 is the only move that protects d5 without compromising the d4 knight or lining up the king and queen on the b file
that match was basically a rigged publicity stunt. stockfish cpu was way underpowered compared to alphazero's gpu, and sf only had 8 mb of ram, so much like a human with bad memory it had to keep recalculating its lines. Fritz engine would have won against sf under similar conditions.
Interesting to see that by programming to look for win probability at all times, AZ never really looks for drawing positions. The same thing happened with AlphaGo when it finally lost, it was starting to make a bunch of chaotic moves rather than staying solid. It always wants to create winning chances and will do whatever it takes to get them.
So Stockfish and Alphazero played two games with each opening, one where Stockfish was black and one where Stockfish was white. My question is, are there any games where Stockfish defeated Alphazero with an opening but did not lose with the other colour in the same opening? If one colour loses in both the games of a particular opening, it just means that the opening is bad. Like if Alphazero lost to Stockfish playing the Traxler (slightly unsound opening) and Stockfish also lost with colours reversed, it just means that the opening was bad, not that one engine played better than the other. Edit: grammar

No no, he has a point. The fact that AlphaZero beat Stockfish beat Stockfish 155 times doesn't change the fact that Stockfish beat AlphaZero six times.
Would love to see more of this. My take away is either that AlphaZero's all-in strategy of sacrificing material for position is flawed and fails in slower, more positional openings, OR, those openings themselves are flawed, and AlphaZero's failing strategy here is indicative that the openings themselves while practiced for centuries by GMs, are ultimately sub-optimal openings. The follow on, is to let AlphaZero play what it wants to, but tailor stockfish to respond with slower, positional openings. There are opportunities to learn here that feel underdeveloped.
Levy, might it be interesting to make a video about the evolution of the chess computer, from a tactical view? I really wonder what the current Stockfish has updated to out play AlphaZero, except for more processor power. I guess over the years chess computers also started to play tactically different. It always wants to create winning chances and will do whatever it takes to get them.
Kinda like my 1100 rated ass.
I have no idea why all this people in the long list of comments below are on about. I just want to make clear that I really enjoy your videos Levy, you have an excellent content and great and entertaining sense of humor. My comments only mean to make your content even better. I just find the clap very annoying (just my opinion) if you need it to sync the sound that's fine. I didn't realise that a simple comment can start a dumpster fire of people reacting or even overeating like that. Well, that's the internet now days what can we do...
Alpha zero is like Mikhal Tal on steroids with the sacrificing. Lol
POV: You are watching a TH-cam video made by a wonderful human being.

@@eduardobenel5329 he's right man don't knock on him

@@eduardobenel5329 Not in the replies. Those are just dicks. Can't pin a reply
Levy that thumbnail and title is godlike
No no, he has a point. The fact that AlphaZero beat Stockfish beat Stockfish 155 times doesn't change the fact that Stockfish beat AlphaZero six times.
But you gotta admit that putting an "!" at the end is kind of clickbaitish for 6 out of 1000 wins. No hate to Levy though.
+Levent but speedrunning also doesn't change the fact that Stockfish needed 30 to 1 time odds to start winning
alphazero:nothing can defeat me
stockfish nnue:joined the room
Welcome Back Gotham. Didn't Know if you were going to make another video.
Guys and Gals please let's get him to 1M I really love this man and I really enjoy his videos 😍.
😍😍😍😍 Yes, he deserves it. GM Hikaru just go to 1 million, so Levy is next. 😎😎
Levy, might it be interesting to make a video about the evolution of the chess computer, from a tactical view? I really wonder what the current Stockfish has updated to out play AlphaZero, except for more processor power. I guess over the years chess computers also started to play tactically different. Might be interesting content.
Stockfish now has some of the Zero-style neural networks involved. It's using a variety of different techniques.
Let’s just say it’s way more developed it wouldn’t be a contest. Just run stockfish 10 vs SF 15 And that’s alpha zero vs SF
