The thing that made it click for me was treating the rail like walking on ice, then it became easier to find the balance point
True, and you wouldn’t walk upwards on downwards ice because then you’d just fall backwards.
what i found is you realy cant be scared when hitting a rail. full commitment required and keep your speed up, too little speed makes it much harder to clean a full feature
100%! Confidence is super key
Yes, if you are going half way on the rail it will be 10x times as hard. And just remember to be perpendicular to the rail or you’ll fall backwards.
the pole idea is really good, im gonna be trying that.
One of my fav exercises to show ppl!
I wish I could give credit to the park rat that showed me that one, but can’t remember his name!
This is *the* greatest tutorial on rails ive seen. You have gained a sub. 10/10 will be using this
Glad u enjoyed :)
update: i can do basic tubes now, now i need to get some courage up to other ones!
lets go!!!!@@levitatingkoala
love the more advanced tutorials! been trying to get better at park jumps but haven't found a methodical way of doing it. so stoked to get out and visualize success!
New intro 💯
Your videos are so awesome man. I love skiing and I love filmmaking. You crush both. Sick to see and excited to watch you just grow and grow. Keep up the dope work.
Ty! :)
Super well made, you earned my sub.
well ty!
super relatable video! gonna absolutely use these tips! just subscribed
Love your teaching style. Been skiing for 20 years and I've never seen anyone explain how to get on a rail with ski pole.
Super good visualization that helped me, I’m glad others like yourself are finding value in it as well :)
Appreciate this vid, this title is exactly me!
The pole tip is genius.
I was planning to go hard at learning rails this year but there's been almost no snow where I am, mountain was open for a very short period then closed due to rain 😢
Gotta tackle it next season
yo! glad it help :)
Keep up the grind, i love it!
I love ur content dude, keep it up man
thank you for making this, i’m going skiing today and i’ve hit my homemade rail but never a rail in park and i’m gonna be trying it today, you’ve made me realize what i’ve been doing wrong thank you
Sweet dude! Lmk how it goes :)
crashed a few times, but i ended up getting it consistently :)@@Clinttoz
@@rebzyvfx lets gooo! crashing is learning!
Sick video, and nice tips.
This vid is so relatable
Absolutely love the vids, I just randomly found your channel and now watch it ever day. I’m a young guy and skiing and mountain biking are my favorite things so love this

Clutch!
BRO I NEEDED THIS THANK YOU 🙏🙏
:)
In my Opinion the best Tutorial for Rails out there! 🔥 I‘ll try them tomorrow 😀
yoooo let me know how it goes!
I hurt my leg doing 360s yeasterday but now i cant wait to ski again! Love your videos man
Ah dude injuries are the worst! Rest up so u can get back out there at 100% :)
great tutorial!
Those are some great pointers. Id add that it looks like you kind of shifty onto the rail instead of rotating on witch works fine when going to forward but will cause issues when doing more advanced rail tricks. When you can slide rails ok you should try getting your shoulder into it sideways with the rail too and practice choosing to go to swich or forward.
Yup this 100%! I noticed while editing this video that I keep my chest pointed downslope instead of perpendicular to the rail. Was working on correcting that yesterday so I can start hitting larger rails :)
@@Clinttoz awesome dude great to hear, it's a really common habbit to develop in the beginning I used to do the exact same thing
@@Safewoood appreciate you saying something :)
Yo, leaving the chest and upperbody pointing downslope while the underbody is rotated 90 degrees is actually something you would need to do, too be able to do a blind 4 out for example. Thats because you need to counter load to then set off a strong rotation.@@Clinttoz
@@mrpeppar1252 oh man i am nowhere near throwing blind 4 out, but that's a good point i actually didnt think of that.
I should probably practice both sliding rails with perpendicular shoulders and downslope facing shoulders then eh?
Boss tutorial. Super clear ideas that made sense. Stoked to try out your tips soon.
happy to help :) lmk how it goes!
Now i need a new pole
TH-cam recommending me well!! also been skiing my whole life but have recently realized how lacking my freeride skills are. Getting 3s down and gonna use this to get my rail game started !!
Let’s go dude!! Lmk how it goes :)
@@Clinttoz flew in from mass this morning and went to solitude and hit some flat bars 💯 psyched to finally start them haha this vid was so clutch thank you
@@colter7300 hell ya dude
Also you might want to know spin tricks like 180s and 360s first. Thanks the vid was helpful.
look forward to the video everyday
About looking at the end of the rail, I would suggest to look even further, at the horizon facing down hill. It works even better.
Oooo ima try this today
Yessssss park content!!!
I’m no expert, but having a ton of fun finally learning park :)
this guy gonna get popular just watch
most relevant video ever
tyyyy
Tysm I really needed this. The pole idea is a really good idea. Would going on a box and doing a sort of shifty to 90 also be good to progress for moving onto rails?
Happy to help!
I am terrified of boxes from catching my edges so many times but I’m sure that is a good way to progress
also me last year, but this year i just sent it and it started making sense
I feel like the only way to go is to take that leap of faith
He will be fame in the future trust the process
dude your new intro is so good
tyyyyy
Yeah idk man I felt attacked with this video just hit my first 40 foot boots in the park haven’t even touched rails this year because of all the fails last year but this video definitely gonna have me trying again this weekend, lyk how it goes 😂😂😂
Dude rails can be so scary! But just like I’m sure you did with jumps, start small and work your way up. U got this! Stoked to hear how it goes
I actually caught my downhill edge on a rail when leaning to the front and ate shit hard, have basically not touched rails since that.
Dude that’s the worst, feel like that is part of the process of learning rails though
Another tip is try 90 onto a box first.
Dont want to fk my edges, feel like jumps are way more fun too
Fair. I have always loved jumps too, sad my mtn doesn’t have a terrain park with proper jumps
Am I supposed to look at the end before I pop up? Because I’ve been looking at the front when I pop up
I wish I could snowboard rn but there’s no snow I can mtb rn
dude feel this. Been biking more this winter than any winter, which is sick but I fs miss sick skiing all winter
Im 14 and started to really try get good at park, and rails that are made of metal are kinda scary, i can rail both ways on a PVC pipe but only on my dominant foot/way on metal pipes
pvc is a great way to get more comfortable!
my problem is i look like a freestyle skier skiing the park all the time because of the fit but the truth is i dont now any tricks and cant slide rails and i want to learn it but there are always like 20 guys in the park waiting for everbody to go and then there is the fear of failiure
been there. Park can be intimidating af but I’ve found (for the most part) the people who hang in the park are super nice, and have also been in your shoes.
They’re normally super helpful, most of what I’ve learned in the park has been from asking park rats for tips!
just force urself to do it lol youll stop being afraid pretty fast or get hurt and it wont matter since you cant do them now anyway
weird take
I am curious:
What is the condition of the bottoms of your skis?
Scratches? Gouges? Beat to Hell?
not bad actually, dull edges underboot for sure and maybe a few surface level scratches
Ouch. I have seen the damage done by steel rails to p-tex & thin steel edges.
It is painful to think about those edges.
I’m the complete opposite I’m scared of a medium sized jump line but can do swaps and p2 etc
damn dude, I need some lessons from u it sounds like!
@@Clinttoz your the one almost hitting cork seven. I need those lessons
should I detune the underfoot of my ski
I did a slight detune after catching my edge once. Not required but for sure helps
where can i buy baggy snowpants?
I’ve got a video out about all my gear, title is “MY SKI GEAR for the 2023/24 season”
Does my guy even take rest days
It’s funny you comment this. I realized today that I need to schedule in some rest/reset days or else my body is going to give out.
Been so focused on daily content that I didn’t even think about the toll it takes on ur body
@@Clinttoz quality over quantity really holds true lol. Stoked to see the new vid today
Love the vid, but the no gloves I gotta disagree.
