    Hi three! My choisya is blooming for the 3rd time this year :)

      Thanks for the message. Yes mine is too. The weather has just been so mild this autumn and winter that everything is going back into growth phase. Hopefully when the cold weather does come the plants will cope okay and not get killed off.
      Enjoy the colour whilst it lasts 🌻

    What are you using to pot up with?

      @@denisethorne9402 Hi Denise and thanks for watching the video.
      I’m just using a multi purpose compost to pot up the cuttings, nothing special is required.
      Hope this helps. Enjoy your new plants 🪴🌼

    Thanks for your video. Thats I was looking for. In Februsry my choisya is frozen, sometimes covered by snow. Last year survived -16C, this winter -8C "only". Do you recommend to take cuttings after flowering?

      Hi and thanks for your message.
      You certainly have it colder than us now. It shows how tough some plants can be.
      You could do some cuttings now, if it’s not going to impact flowering or shape but probably better to have the full show of flowers and then take cuttings when you cut back the plant, to maintain shape.
      Choisya are so tough that they will soon grow back.

      @@diyhomeandgardening thanks for advise. Do I need to keep new cuttings in some warmer place as still ground frost up to -3C?

      @@sfinxek. Yes you will need to place the cuttings into warmer conditions, indoors is fine.

    That was great, thanks. Have you done or would you do at some point, a video on taking miniature acer cuttings? I really love them & I really want to grow more myself if it’s possible. I have 3 red ones, well established in the ground, all very different in leaf & colour. It’s all so much easier when it’s demonstrated or explained. Thanks so much. 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻

      Hi. I did a video last year on propagation of Acer palmatum Atropurpureum as it’s the only Acer I have in my garden. Also Atropurpureum tends to be the only variety that can be grown from cuttings rather than through grafting.

    Part of my Choysia has snapped off in the wind. Do you think I could replant it?

    • @diyhomeandgardening
      @diyhomeandgardening  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sorry to hear that but yes you can definitely use that piece for cutting material.
      Still make a fresh cut with clean secateurs just below a set of leaves. This will make sure that the stem cells are still active and the fresh cut section will want to root.
      Obviously I would suggest watching my video on full method for taking the cuttings. They should root no problem at this time of year.

    Did you say it takes 6 to 8 months for choisya to root?

    • @diyhomeandgardening
      @diyhomeandgardening  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi. Thanks for watching and messaging.
      If you take the cuttings in autumn then it is 6-8 months for the cuttings to develop a good root structure.
      If you take cuttings in spring then it is about half that time, although losses can be higher due to drying out.
      Roots will form much sooner, after about a month, but they will not be good enough to allow you to plant out at that stage.
      Hope that helps you. All the best 🌸🌻

    Can you do cuttings now or is it too cold (Feb)

    • @diyhomeandgardening
      @diyhomeandgardening  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Wait until we hit April/May. The cuttings will take quickly at that time of the year. You can take some now if you have the cuttings inside but then you risk damaging the plant you are cutting from, due to the cold.
