3 months is probably the longest I’ve heard it took someone to get a cat comfortable. Can’t imagine what the poor guy went through. It’s really sweet he takes care of the rescue kittens
It can be really tough and take even more time than that with adult feral kitties. The day I buried my torte kitty Bear a feral torte kitty that was very similar to her showed up and watched us bury her. The next time we saw her was on Christmas Day when I got out of the hospital from covid, and really quick we realized she was quite sick and pregnant. From then on she watched me very intently everyday nearly all day and eventually had her kittens in our old dog's doghouse, which was quite unsafe as a racoon that had attacked other mama kitties frequented the area. I caught her and her kittens and my bf and I cleared out of the bedroom so she could take care of her kitties but be away from people as she was pretty nervous. She had no issue early on with me handling the kittens, but was still very nervous herself. Its been about a year and a half now and she is super sweet. She has to be on meds quite often because her issues turned out to be chronic, but she will come and wait for her meds at the same time each day and hold very still and open her mouth and wait for them, just like Bear used to do. We kept her kittens along with her and she still mothers them all the time. She took to our elderly kitty Boots, Bear's brother and was very protective of him teaching her kittens not to be rough with him, and she would lay with him when he was having bad days before he passed. She's one of the cuddliest and sweetest and cuddliest kitties in the world now, but it did take a bit before she fully trusted humans.
It took years for the stray cat outside our home, Dopey, to finally let us pet him. At first, he stayed around our house 24/7, and while we fed him and other strays, he wouldn’t let us touch him. Unfortunately, there was a time when we couldn’t afford cat food, so the strays started hunting for themselves. Even then, they still visited, but eventually, they stopped coming. About 2 years later, Dopey came back unexpectedly. He looked frail and skinny-he was already old, but seeing him like that really hurt. That was also when he finally allowed me to pet him. He’d rub his head and body against my legs and let me get close. I realized why-he knew his time was near. We could all see it in his condition, so we waited. On Valentine’s Day, February 14, 2024, we found his lifeless body outside, in the cold night in front of our house. I felt so guilty, but at the same time, relieved that he was finally at peace. RIP Dopey

Stray means an animal that had a home but lost it. Feral means one that had never had any close contact with humans. It’s usually easier to tame strays because they are more used to humans and indoors. Many feral animals (unless they’re very young) simply can’t be tamed or require so much time to do it that it’s better to focus on the ones that are faster and easier so that more overall can get a home.
Is it possible that this is a wild cat that led a carefree life before being kidnapped, scared to death and locked up in a tiny cage for 3 months straight?
Cats are wild and belong outside, no? Humans are responsible for feeding them and giving them medicine but should leave cats alone in the wild because they are no pets and belong in nature. Keeping cats inside is abuse it is like keeping a human locked in jail.
This is a very sweet story. You could see the kindness in his eyes, he just had to live a tough life. Bless you for brining him into yours, and making it a better life for him.
Yes indeed! I wonder if they live in a really cold wintery environment, because i recently saw a car that had lost the tips of his ears due to frostbite. So sad and had to be painful! Cats normal body temos are higher than ours, tbey cannot deal with cold very well. 😢 but he looks cute and im thankful she took him in! ❤❤❤
Ironically though it probably took 3 months because she kept trying to pet him when he wouldn't let her. If anyone is reading this as a new cat parent, please don't actually try to use a scratcher or force interactions with your new kitty, it will delay how long it takes for them to trust you, instead open the cage, and keep them in one room with a clean litter box, water and food, it would be better to do wet food so u can come in and feed him yourself, if he sees u feeding him and associates you with his meal in a safe environment where he isn't forced to do anything then he will slowly realise you aren't a threat, you also should spend a few hours in that room with him there literally get your computer or phone and go lay down on the floor at his level, but the important thing is not to try to do anything and wait the first week or month or so for the cat to come to you. After that, the cat will probably never wanna leave your side.

Last summer there was a single abandoned 5 week old kitten crying outside my bedroom window for hours. I went outside to see what was going on and this tiny baby came RUNNING at me crying his eyes out like he'd known me forever. I picked him up and he immediately began to purr. 🥰 After a few minutes I placed him on the ground and he started crying then literally climbed up my leg all the way to my waist. The rest is history. Unfortunately, a lot of people are very cruel to stray animals, especially stray cats. If I was a stray cat I would have a hard time trusting people also. Trusting the wrong human can cost a cat its life.
Most things considered feral just naturally don't trust humans. I don't think he would have warmed up to her so quickly if he had a bunch of bad experiences with people.
@pequena-ninera. You are so right! This lovely lady went about gaining this poor kitty's trust the perfect way. I once was adopted by a feral cat, who then brought me his brother, and the first one lived with me 'til age 18. My heart still aches when I think of them both. Just before he came, I'd adopted a shelter kitty, age 9 years. He looked as though he loathed humans. After reading his history, I understood why. I brought him home, talked to him gently, lay on the floor with him, telling him how much I loved him. I promised never to give him away (as much as I could make such a promise). He'd been given away 5 times, been de-clawed (an unacceptable horror). It took me half a year of giving him love, space and comfortable beds. At last, he let me touch him and one day, he began racing around with the toys I had laid out for him. He developed asthma, which I treated, but after 3 years, he began to vomit blood. A friend accompanied me to the vet. Luckily, we had 2 hours to spend with him. He was at peace, was enveloped in love. Then it was time to let his spirit go. A gentle inj. to make him drowsy, then the last coup de grace were administered as tears bathed my face. He died in my arms, next to my heart. I had been able to keep my promise.
Thanks for not giving up on him. He just didn’t realize the advantages of having your own human and now he does. Thank you again. He deserves a nice home and you just kept on working with him to convince him humans are, usually nice and can be trusted.way to go!

There is something incredibly rewarding about earning the trust of a feral cat. It's like no other feeling in the world, you really have to work hard for it, but the payoff of immeasurable. I had a feral teenage kitten adopt me. It took a full month of twice daily feedings to get him to come anywhere near me, and another two weeks before I could pet him. Then one day I heard him crying at our front door, I opened the door and he came inside and never left. He loves to snuggle with me now but picking him up is out of the question, and he's absolutely terrified of men.
This reminds me of Grandpa Mason w/ Tiny Kittens rescue! Senior battle scarred feral who had kindney failure & didn't care for humans but once kittens were introduced to him, he melted & became a softy for those kittens just like Tom Tom! Such a powerful story here! ❤❤❤
This hits me.. We had a stray cat (I called him Old Timer) in our neighborhood. I like yourself I would bring food for him, but I never tried to catch him. He started hanging out on our porch. One day he's right by the door and I open it and he comes in. I followed him around as he explored the house, and he found a spot to lay down. I sat down to watch TV and that cat jumped right up on my lap like he belonged there all the time. It was the first time I had any physical contact him, and I petted him and he purred. It got late and he wanted back outside. The next morning as I was leaving school I drove down the hill from my house. And he was there... Someone had hit him. I can't tell you how heartbroken I was.
Omg I'm so sorry. I know that pain. My neighbor's cat was at our house all the time and eventually just became part of our family because they barely took care of him and they already had like 7 cats 4 dogs and a pig. And then one day he was hit by a car right in front of our house. My ex MIL actually saw it happen and it traumatized everyone. Especially me. I loved him so so much. 😞
😢😶🌫️😭😭😭 I had to put down one cat I rescued (had a neurological disease that made her stop moving one day & she was stuck laying down & crying...that broke me for awhile), another cat I was taking care of (both strays) was starting to do well & got hit by some scumbag neighbor kids. Right in front of my car. I walk out to my car to go do an Instacart order, & the cat was there, eyes open, all of her organs pushed out of her backside... 😭. I buried her next to my dog in the backyard that died 22yrs prior. It's so heartbreaking how shitty people can be. Those kids almost got beaten for that. I enjoy my freedom though..I heard them go by, back up, then drive forward again. They either tried to hit her, or made sure to kill her. They're the worst drivers I've ever seen.
Once a feral cat gets to know and trust someone, they are just as loving as any other cat. I used to feed several feral cats where I used to work security. and after a while, several would bring me treats (birds, bugs etc.) as a thank you for feeding them! They even relaxed enough to enjoy the catnip that I would put down for them (as long as it was the good stuff!)!
I took in 2 stray sister kittens. Age was estimated at 6 months. I then took in a feral Tomcat 6 years later. His name was Little Buddy. And I adored him. He lived outside. The girls were inside. He was well provided for with his own house on the porch and heating and cooling units. Food. Water. He was adored. He didn't make it. He was so sick. He was loved for 2 years. Our vet fought hard for him. I still miss him.

It’s usually easier to tame strays because they are more used to humans and indoors. Many feral animals (unless they’re very young) simply can’t be tamed or require so much time to do it that it’s better to focus on the ones that are faster and easier so that more overall can get a home.
@@tianna1116Unfortunately a lot of people lack empathy.

Cats are wild and belong outside, no? Humans are responsible for feeding them and giving them medicine but should leave cats alone in the wild because they are no pets and belong in nature. Keeping cats inside is abuse it is like keeping a human locked in jail.

That is what the winner looks like for street cats.

PS. I think I have his son or grandson. Nijiibay (aka Niijii) is now my best friend and my literal shadow. He found me during a very difficult time in life when I was in deep grief over the loss of my beautiful girl Bezhik who was my best friend of 15 years. Less than 24 hours after I was calling her name to trick my brain into feeling like she was still here, Nijiibay showed up. 🙏 I truly believe he was sent to me by Bezhik and God. Unfortunately, a lot of people are very cruel to stray animals, especially stray cats. If I was a stray cat I would have a hard time trusting people also. Trusting the wrong human can cost a cat its life.

@pequena-ninera. You are so right! This lovely lady went about gaining this poor kitty's trust the perfect way. I once
was adopted by a feral cat, who then brought me his brother, and the first one lived with me 'til age 18.
This kind of patience and love is exactly what the world needs😭😭😭😭
It can't be that way right now. It's not God's plan. Satan has fallen to Earth and has realized he is on Earth and then began to devour many of us.
I’m studying veterinary technology to help my vet and educate humans about their animals. That’s the kind of love I give to animals in my care because they need it. They need us to advocate for them.

One day he's right by the door and I open it and he comes in. I followed him around as he explored the house, and he found a spot to lay down. I sat down to watch TV and that cat jumped right up on my lap like he belonged there all the time. It was the first time I had any physical contact him, and I petted him and he purred.
Then at the end they see another beautiful this and he says what the og comment said. Probably could have explained that better but 🤷
My dad always told me real men cry.
Gotta love cats, they make you WORK for their love. When you get it, means everything.
Thank you for saving Tom tom. We need more people like you. God bless. X❤❤❤
I got a stray cat visiting and gave her a cat tower and blanket outside.
I give her canned tuna when i see her and over time we became friends. She likes roaming the neighborhood but always visits and hangs out inside too.
Now i am addicted to cat videos on TH-cam
He is so beautiful- and so is the heart of his friend who showed him love.
Bless you for doing this. Stray cats need love too, and they deserve a home.
So true. All living beings need love.
Tom Tom you were rescued and adopted by an Angel ! “ Fereal to Family “ ❤️🥰❤️🥰🙏🏼
Unfortunately he became an angel. She lost Tom Tom late last year.
But not before he felt and gave Love. He even got to the point of sleeping with her in the bed. ❤ Miss you Tom Tom RIP❤
I 💕 animals, they make great companions, unlike people that carry drama, just me and my pets.
His face when she says "I knew that love was winning" made me melt ❤❤❤❤
I’m so happy he’s able to live out the last years of his life in a safe and loving home! I personally love the more difficult rescue cases. It’s so rewarding to see them finally accept affection.
Poor baby probably never had any love before. I'm so glad you took the time to show him he deserves love too. 💖🐱
You can see the fear in that poor gentleman's eyes.
What is sweetheart. Thank you so much 😊👍 for your patience and your love. 💙
