Guys important note on your install, more as a note for other people watching that might follow your install procedure 😁 you should use a resistor to pre charge your inverters as the inrush surge "can" damage the inverter and BMS! (As per victron manual) I have one permanent mounted over the cutoff switch with a push to make button)
Also, you should NEVER connect solar to a charge controller before battery voltage, again per victron manuals and here personal experience of magic smoke! 🤣
I know it all went well and nothing happened! But sods law 1/100 people might cost themselves a battery or inverter etc so Im try to be helpfull and help out! I've just completed a 48v install, all victron apart from the raw lifepo4 cells (14kwh) such a game changer!
You guys are the my favourite channel alongside sailing into freedom of course (I have a thing for aussies maybe) hahahaha 😜

G'day from a wet and slightly chilly Sydney. Having read recently of all the fires breaking out on Super Yachts around the world, one thing springs to mind...lack of proper & effective fire control. It's all good & well having fire extinguishers onboard, but if they don't contain the right stuff it will be like farting against thunder. For lithium battery fires you should have at least one large Class D fire extinguisher on board, they are effective against lithium-metal battery fires. Lithium-ion battery fires are Class B fires, indicating the presence of flammable liquids, so a standard dry chemical or ABC extinguisher can put them out. I'd have at least four extinguishers onboard. Just thought I'd share this with you. Wishing you many safe miles at sea.

Your friend mentions the power from the solar panels going through the disconnects and then to the shunt. Not exactly sure how the Victron system works but most solar systems have the shunt on the negative side of the battery bank.

I didn't see a BMS , but you probably have one installed. Perhaps each battery has it's own? Anyway, a good choice from the Victron range is the Smart BMS CL 12/100. It provides several useful functions, including protecting the alternator and lithium batteries from each other, as well as providing a really good way to charge the engine start battery from solar generated electricity. This is great in case you are anchored for an extended period want to keep the start battery topped up, without needing to run the engine. Ask for details if interested. Regards, Rick. Also, check that you've got the Multiplus programmed to work with a charging protocol that is suitable for your lithium batteries. It probably wasn't set up for this by default. You'll need to hook a Windows computer up to it to do this programming. Then, set your Cerbo up to run the system with Distributed Voltage & Current Control (DVCC); a great protocol for keeping the system running well. 🙂

Thanks, but I'm just a friend and Patreon and not a contractor. I'm a consulting electrical engineer planning to retire and go cruising soon our Beneteau 49. If you have questions I may be to help, though. I design and build industrial control systems and have done many upgrades on my own boat.

Do you have an RCD (Residual Current Device) to catch earth faults; that's the one that saves your life if you touch live 110/240V. Usually you have a Earthing plate near the keel, and run an earth lead to the RCD on the 110V/240V side of the Multiplus. Without the RCD the systsem won't know if you're holding a live wire. With the RCD it detects a change in the balance between neutral and live, and says - something is wrong; open the switch. They are mandatory in AU, and I would have a public liability problem if I didn't have one here - but can't speak for other countries.

Yes, the breakers for the solar panels are DC breakers. The two for the inverter outputs are AC.

i do not understand, people waste so much money on all these stuff.. on my opinion is more necessary increase batt capacity. i would have 3000 ah and small solar charger with couple panels that is it.. . that is more relyable... i have 1200ah batt, and 500w of solar, one charger and one inverter. that is it. i do kot know how much im get, how much i waste. only thing i know for sure is Iam always enough. even no sun for a week...

PS: can't wait for the boatwork videos to stop...ti me it's been like watching paint dry. I'm sure there are many who find 17:08 mins of electrical work interesting, but I'm not one to the 13 people who do. Hopefully this will be the last of the "boatwork" series and now that you guys are sailing again, let's skip the mundane work vids to a minimum...seriously, you could have edited this vid down to 3 mins and rather showed the kids trip to San Fran instead...that's my bitch for the day. But that said, I love you guys so let's get into the adventure like before.

    • @blackhawkteam8625

Seriously I'm sure there are many who are installing solar systems, inverters, and lithium batteries who might find this interesting. If you didn't like it, it's simple… Don't watch it ....on the same token. Perhaps some of us are tired of watching bikini girls walking around and talking about all of the bars and drinks that everybody is enjoying? Perhaps Sailing Doodles would be a better channel for you?
