What an awesome rendition both the flutist and violinist competing each other…even though I know nothing about Carnatic music tears welling out while listening to the music
The violinist is totally immersed in the raga and deserves special mention & appreciation. Please add the names of all accompanying artists including the Tambura player.
Nicely rendered kAmbOdhi. Shashank's speed of fingers is also quite amazing. He is also able to reach the third octave Da and Ni quite comfortably and in a way that is not contrived. Congratulations.
Nabhootho Na bhavishyathe The best Kambhodi on flute I have heard Shubhaalakshmi at her best. Pathri and Gopaalakrishnan as usual excel. R.S.C.Murthy. Los Angeles.
Very meloudiously played on flute by sashank& equally acommpanide by sister A Asubbalakshmi wow what gratitude Ican shower on them in turn God will bless them
Absolutely! Co-artist would be even better though it sounds so bland. They are not just "helping" the main artist, but bringing their own artistry and imagination to the stage and breathing more life into a concert! Many of us pick and choose our concert listening schedule in the Chennai Music Season by looking at the co-artists mainly (main artists are decided first, of course) - if it is Akkarai or Varadarajan or Ananthakrishnan on violin, or Patri or Sivaraman sir or Sankaran sir, those concerts are bookmarked first! (Used to be MSG / Lalgudi / TNK and Ramabhadran / Karaikudi Mani, those were the days!!!)
Absolutely. It’s a team - one cannot listen to a singer or flute or any other instrument by itself without the percussion and violin. Everyone’s goal is same - to make the concert a success and share the art and journey that comes with it with audiences.
Hi just search kambhoji and you'll get many records. For example, artists like Sanjay, TM Krishna, Ranjani Gayatri have a lot of records on TH-cam. Once you get the hang of it you can spot and relate to the core phraseology of the raga. Or atleast that's what I did to most ragas. Just search something like 'Sanjay kambhoji' or something like that
Kamboji is a core Carnatic Raga. Before learning Ragas like Kamboji, Todi, Bhairavi, Dhanyasi and so on, you must learn other Ragas which have simpler Gamaka structures (Nuances or connection between two notes). Best to learn it vocally first from a good vocal Guru / school of thought and then attempt to play it on an instrument. Practice only under the guidance of a Guru and after you have the basic knowledge of the Raga, you should listen to interpretations of that Raga by other musicians as well.
I completely defer to S. Subramanyan. I believe what he didn't write was: you start when you are about 2-3 years old and devote your life to it if you really want to master your instrument and the music.
Those who are playing Mridangam should listen to great Mridangam players like T.K. Murthy, Palghat Mani Iyer, Vellore Ramabadran & Karaikudi Mani. When TK Murthy plays Thani avarthanan & if you have just entered the hall, you can concentrate a bit & come to a conclusion that to what Raga he is playing the Thani Avarthanan. It is not only the Rythm, he will create different Swaras from the Mridangam.
Patri's mic is the star performer ... Killjoy is the sound engineer ...! His expert percussion play is simply spoilt in an otherwise brilliant performance of champions of the respective instruments
What a combination flute and
violin.. Sublime experience.
Long live the artists.
Kamboji presented in varying speeds - exhibition of great balance & breath control
This is one of the best Khambhoji I listen and no doubt that Shashank is a natural heir to the Great Mali.
What an awesome rendition both the flutist and violinist competing each other…even though I know nothing about Carnatic music tears welling out while listening to the music
Avant-garde Khamboji. So enticing and unfathomable!. Exhilarating experience listening.

how long do you study before you can play a raga like this? how long do i need to listen to fully understand it? :)

what is the sruthi sir
Sruti is C sharp or 1 1/2 kattai.
Did he say Evari Marta 😀
Thats what english does to carnatic music😉
Patri's mic is the star performer ... Killjoy is the sound engineer ...!
His expert percussion play is simply spoilt in an otherwise brilliant performance of champions of the respective instruments
Absolutely agree. Patri's mrdangam should sound much better than what has been projected.
Yes. but it seems Patri tried something new in his mridanga...not a sound issue...
A very resting music
Substitute for Mali.
Lacks clarity , it shall be nadopasana . mridamgam is a sound not Naadam
Excellent
