You kick the rat's corpse into the hungry serpent and the serpent will eat the rat and it will then follow you around and block bullets. But when you get to the Dragun, the serpent fuses with the Dragun and it becomes the Advanced Dragun, which is much harder to beat.
A good advice for the punch out section is to forget about dodging left/right, attacks that can be avoided that way can be ducked. Also, alternate between left and right punches so you can inflict extra damage.
Kinda late to the party, but here is some additional info for newcomers: 1) you can go to the lair without the last note, but you will have 50% chance of finding the rat. Basically, you have 2 chances to walk the maze. If you make a wrong turn once, you can start it all over again and guess a second time. Since there are 4 possible directions for the final turn, you have 50% chance of making it. But if you fail, you can 100% get it the next time. 2) after you open first normal hatch, it's faster to go by foot on train tracks (I think if you board the cart, the corridor gets bigger, but I am not sure) 3) you don't have to knock out the rat with 3 star punch - one star is enough. If you knock him out with that, you get a key, if you use a normal attack, you just get an item. And at the end of the fight you can get either 1 or 2 keys depending on whether your final attack was a super. 4) the punch out game is really easy, but you have to get used to all the attacks first, which will take maybe a dozen runs. Don't be discouraged, it is very frustrating in the beginning, but gets easy fast. 5) if you want to know about the serpent, look it up on the wiki. You feed it 4 items, and then you get a super dragun fight in the forge after you beat it normally.
About numbers 2 and 3 Yes, on the minecart the room repeats. Just walk on the tracks. Also, while ending each phase with a super punch of any type will give you 5 keys, if you manage to end every phase with a 3-star, you will get a 6th key. This is the maximum amount of keys and lets you open all 4 chests AND get to the serpent.

@@gringohispanic Keep at it. It took me over 60 attempts to beat the first story/past. Then the next three weren't so bad. Just practice, man. Gungeon can be a very hard game at the beginning, but it gets a lot easier with time. You have to concentrate on your dodge rolling and movement and stop looking at your target, specially during boss fights. Try timing your blanks as well, and if you play with the controller, turn on the aim assist so you can shoot enemies more often without aiming too much. Just a quick tip, good luck.

It's not a serpent, it's a mini dragon.
N1cky, nope. It’s a serpent.
I killed the final boss in the 5th floor and i didn't get the note why? And when he say kille the high dagun is mining be want Me to kille the advances
I’m trying to beat this guy on the switch, and now I’m wondering what the controls are for the Punchout phase on the switch. Can anyone help?
Jw when i swap character command my game just black screens any idea
I have a question if i play as a pilot which have the charming personality will that change the price of the gnawed key?
The key can be... "stolden"
Oh man, I beat the rat but the punchout thing screws me and it takes too much work to get back and try it again. Goddamn thats hard...
I cant find the last note. I have done all the stuff but I cant find the note
The punch out part looks way easier than you're making it out to be, but to be fair, I'm currently on Super Macho Man TD on Punch Out for the Wii, so I am a changed man
Thanks but that's not just "a mech suit", and the final stage is not based on "the punchout game". That's Metal Gear Rex in MGS1 and Liquid (as a rat) you have to fist-fight just like in the end of MGS1.
How did you get the cute pink bunny costume?
Thank you mungry for the tutorial if I get the game this will help! :)
I like that to do this you have to be really good at the game which I usually can not get past chamber two bosses, and not yet chamber 3 boss
I'll try sometimes i dodge roll into a bullet
I'm stuck on the punch-out phase. :(
How? He even said if you die there, you just continue your run
i got problem because i got notes like this up left left up down left
the serpent is for the 3rd phase of the dragun basicly making it way harder :D
The fist fight is a reference to Metal Gear Solid.
Does it say the controls for the punch out section
on the fight, you can press start I believe to show the controls
Nicholas Menezes thanks dude
np
On tour first time it won't start until u have done every action
Can you use body blows and punches to head? Does the game give you a breakdown of controls before the fight?
If you pause during the Punchout phase, it shows you the controls.
I've get to the punch out part two times and he keeps kicking my sorry ass. The Metal Gear part is already harder than the Lich (in my opinion) but the boxing phase is just hardcore. I'm not sure I'll be able someday of besting him.
Is there always a hatch on the 3rd floor
There are not always rats in the room with the trapdoor, its kinda frustrating :D
I dont get the cheese at the end of the notes, i have a visual glitch when i enter the ammonomicon, is there a way to fix this?
