  • Is the Historic, and beautiful West Hill Manor Haunted by the Ghosts of its past? Located in Burlington, New Jersey, West Hill Manor was built between 1797 and 1799 by Samuel and Susanna Emlen, both from prominent Quaker families.
In 1814, Susanna Emlen developed breast cancer and underwent surgery in her bedroom of the West Hill Manor. At the time - before the discovery of anesthesia - many of the women who underwent the procedure died on the table. Susanna recorded her experiences in letters to her family and friends that exist to this day.
Susanna became one of the earliest breast cancer surgery survivors in the United States.
In 1851, the home was purchased by Eliza Gurney, an avid abolitionist and social reformer. The Quaker minister visited President Lincoln in 1862 to assure him of the support of Quakers in his leadership of the Civil War and asked Eliza to corresponded with the President. Her first letter was found in his jacket pocket upon his death.
Claims of furniture moving on its own. Voices, Screaming, full body apparitions and more are common at West Hill Manor

What a gorgeous home. I love the colour of paints they used. So warm and welcoming. And what a brave woman to have the surgery she had. It's unbelievable what the human body can go through. Amazing. And thank you Jason and JV for having this channel for us all to enjoy. ❤😊. A huge fan from Canada

Hey Jason, I love the 360 full view camera, it's awesome! It's too bad people who do ghost hunts don't use something like this. Also I've been a fan of yours and Grant, since the first episode of Taps. My family and I always loved your show. I just found your channel bc of another TH-camr sharing about the conjuring house and I'm now a subscriber to your channel.

I'm actually in burlington county in NJ so I don't think I'm very far from this gorgeous home! I love that they kept the originality of the home from when it was first built. It's so stunning and full of amazing and rich history. I would love to see you do more NJ spots. I'm horrfyied that this poor woman went through that without any kind of anesthesia, antibiotics and pain medication to help with pain and prevent infection and amazingly she lived through all of it! Wow!! That's definitely a miracle!!!

I have been lanced open without anesthesia. Let's just say all those movies grunts are wrong. You will scream out in pain and it was so painful I basically separated into two different beings.

    • @Judey63
      @Judey63 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

@@davidt3563 in January 1974 I broke my leg from falling off my bike & was not near my house but thankfully only about 4 blocks away. I couldn’t get up because I couldn’t stand on my left leg since I broke the weight bearing bone. Sadly there were two guys across the street who just stood there laughing at me. Thankfully a couple of girls helped me get up, I sat on my bike with the broken leg sitting on the pedal & used my right to push my bike. Every time I accidentally leaned even slightly on my left foot, I felt the pain sear through me. My oldest brother was the only one home when I got there, he didn’t help me get into the house & didn’t believe I was hurt. I haven’t spoken to him since our sister passed away in 2018 since he’s a nasty alcoholic now. I had to wait for my parents to get home from being at the hospital with my grandfather, & they thought I would be just fine. I laid on the couch & cried all night long, they took me to the hospital the next day & yup, broken leg. The orthopedic doctor set my leg, no anesthesia or pain meds, casted it from foot all the way up to my hip & sent me home. The pain from setting the break was horrific & today, at almost 61 years old, I will never forget that pain.

Sounds very painful! I too feel sorry for her! I know anesthesia was in short supply back then, but I think they would have used Laudanum back then to help with pain. It was common to blind fold people in that era because the surgical instruments would have been scary to see!

I was cringing listening to you tell me what that poor woman had to endure! But I thank her for going through it. As a breast cancer survivor, I can never imagine what pain she went through, but she had to go through it for the doctors to learn. Through her experience, she helped other people survive.
And as for the chair, it might have gone with the spinning wheel in the playroom. Back then kids were taught early skills to help them in life. And JV is right, it would have broken. And in case you didn't know, you missed a fireplace, so there are 13, one was in the playroom. I don't know why they put one there, for one there are kids there and two it gets warm enough up there, they wouldn't need one--except in the Winter.

This is a gorgeous home. Love all the history that y'all give on these 360 tours. If Susanna and hundreds of thousands other women didn't have breast cancer surgery back in its infancy we may not be where we are today in technology on how to fight breast cancerand or surgery. I am a breast cancer survivor and I thank god for all the women that had breast cancer and surgery back in the days of no anesthesia and all now fighting it. Congratulations again for hitting 100k and I hope you both have a wonderful and bless week.

You still can get a home made like this 'IF' you get the right people and have A LOT of money.
It would take more time to construct it -- cause you'd be using WAY more materials but it sure would be worth it in the end.
And IF you had a really good amount of money there's a way to put 'flame resistant 'paint' on & in the house. It won't put out the flames but it would under normal conditions if folks 15 to 20 minutes or so longer to get out. It could prove to help save more of your house, depends how bad the fire is & the time the firefighters could put it out.
There's a special coating that needs to be put on -- then the paint goes on. It's costly -- but it can save lives.
Me? I've thought maybe building the inner walls & floors with a thick layer of bricks -- and also use steel frames -- then put wood on the floors & wood frame so plaster could be a covering for the walls and ceiling.& Wooden crown molding.
Does that sound like over kill? Yes, it would cost a ton -- but if taken care of-- that house should last a long--long time, especially with a thick slate roof & very sturdy windows with working shutters.
(Unless unforseen weather conditions -- duh or some dumb contractor is paid to distory it so some 'condo' could be built in it's place !!!)
I love designing & making doll houses from scratch & many grandparents 14 years ago would buy them for their grand kids. But I live in an apartment now so that's out pretty much.
One guy ordered a Lizzy Borden house. It even had period hand made furniture .
Man I hated to sell it !
      I hope I haven't bored ya to death.😊

Hey Jason, I'm glad you're continuing to share your experiences investigating the paranormal. I just rewatched GH S9 E4: Permanent residents. It just reminded me of how the paranormal community demonizes electric shock therapy. The investigators show compassion towards patients who underwent early versions of treatment.
The stereotypical depictions of ECT treatments make prospective patients afraid to try it.
I hope that in future videos you can promote understanding of ECT and other life-saving psychiatrists.

    Congratulations ❤🎉on the subs !!!
Luv the 360 bit -- you can pause the video & really look around.
What we take for granted medical advances wise !!!
That lady was very brave -- but -- the pain ect. -- my goodness!!!
The surgery is bad enough -- but-- how she didn't die from shock & loss of blood-- & how infections--- is amazing!!!
This is only my humble opinion but the Lord was with her & the folks back then
Maybe some day they'll open the tunnel (s) again.
My walk through an old home once used as an underground railroad -- Something made me ask if I could open a window seat -- after doing so I picked up the empty floorboard -- there was an opening !!!An old ladder appeared!!! After some fixing up -- now the tunnel stops right near the lake. ! Very cool indeed.
Too bad they needed homes where it had to be used as an under ground railroad -- ALL people shout have come together & treated FAIRLY -- & WITH DIGNITY!!!
Lincoln stated that if a person wanted wanted slave's that first 'they' should BE a slave themselves ---
Scarytimes lay ahead --esp. IF -- the dems
    get in the W. H.
If they do get into .
    the W-- house -- If so...then we'll be in BIG TERR .🤐
    W.H. then then it's
In the 1970's I lived over the years in two haunted homes but -- at least back then they were friend😥ly sprites & in one house even helped to make the landlord LOWER the rent!
After I said outloud to the landlord if you raise my rent I'd have to move -- knocking was heard on a wall -- long story short -- there had been a small fire at some point. (Which in time I repaired) Seems the landlord didn't want the Fire Dept inspector's cking things out so he lowered the rent.
    I thanked the sprites.
My friend's & I would be playing a board game -- then the bathroom door shut -- normal use of a bathroom -- & the water would go on & off-- the door would open & that was it. You just goy used to it.
One day while watching TV with my dog -- (not long after first moving in) seemed to be on edge.
My front door would open (. I lived on the second floor) -- even though I knew it was locked.
The 3rd time -- I closed the door & happened to look out the window -- the house across the street had just caught on fire !
This was in the mif 1970's -- before ghost shows ect & before I'd become a ghost hunter.

I currently have a rope bed, it’s been modernized but I’m kinda thinking of returning it to the original “box spring”. I learned about rope beds when I gave tours at the New Hampshire Farm Museum in Milton, NH. It’s a very cool place, if anyone’s ever in the area, I recommend it…

I can't imagine going through a mastectomy in the way she did!😢. I thought it's was painful enough having the chestwall port put in for my medication for breast cancer was bad enough! Wow, I have sympathy for her, I had everything possible for comfort, and all she had was something over her head to block her from seeing!!😮😢.

Beautiful home. They knew how to build homes that would last for centuries. Nice walk through. Sure, would like to have spent time there. I would have melted into the walls. Give me a house built like this. You can keep the modern one. Basement was actually pretty nice. Plaster and whitewash on the walls and it's good to go.

Nice video. Not sure about 360 while you are moving from room to room. I was getting dizzy and a headache. I guess I need to get use to 360.
