Knott's Berry farm must solidify their dominance in the roller coaster category and finally put the crown on top of their heads and make six flags bow down. The giga coaster will crown Knott's Berry farm as the king of coasters
In my life, I remember a time when Knott's did not have any roller coasters (unless you want to count the mine train which used to be gravity fed). Knott's loves their prototypes their coaster evolution with the Corkscrew and Motorcycle Chase.
The park is really about experience more than roller coasters. It is a very strong family oriented park with things like Ghost Town Alive, Crazy Kirk and the Hillbillies, the Birdcage Theater melodramas, and Snoopy on Ice. Other than Hang Time, Knott's has spent the last several years giving major rides and areas a facelift. For what it is, the park is pristine.
The biggest need I see for Knotts is an expansion of its footprint. Removing some of the backstage areas and pushing into the south parking lot is the direction I see that the park needs to go. A master plan of this magnitude which would include a giga, a Peanuts themed dark ride, and some flat rides, would keep the park current with the growing Southern California market.
Because yes, in addition to Universal's big coaster, Magic Mountain also has something big lurking on the horizon
Knotts has been recently been updating many of its themed lands like montezoomas revnge and now camp snoopy and many boardwalk improvements including berry tales, a pizza place, hangtime, and an xcelerator repaint. I think it could be ghost towns turn and this could definitely be it.
I think every large theme park should have 2 B&Ms. It’s just makes good sense to have an invert+other model. They’re a great coaster company that will be expensive, but they get what they pay for with B&M.
Pro: I love the "Gold Rush" idea, I think its brilliant and perfect especially with it being in the front of the park towering over GhostRider since the parking lot and that area is the only open areas for a coaster of that size, someone at B&M and Knotts needs to see this concept idea as its perfect especially for capacity 👌
Con: Knotts has to get everything approved by the surrounding areas, they complained when Pony Express was added which is why its so short, GhostRider has a roof over the drop to reduce sound, Silver Bullet is filled with sand for the same reason. I think a loud, huge B&M coaster especially close to residential areas, wouldn't get approved and thats why the project has been abandoned/put off for now
Side note: they owe us that Giga for the mysterious loss of Montezooma
If there was ever a time for knott's push hard, and for the city of Buena Park to realize what they have, this is the time. Universal is expanding, Disney has a major expansion planned, and the Olympics are coming. Knotts added a lot of smaller rides, which are fine and good but aren't the big headliners that are needed now. I applaud them for all of the remodels and upkeep they have given the classics lately, but that isn't going to bring in the tourist as much as keep the locals and history buffs happy. I fear that if they do not do something big and soon, the upcoming competition will leave knott's as an afterthought.
I’m very impressed with their new camp snoopy, I would love the giga. I can’t believe the residents complained about the noise. You live next to a theme park, what do you expect! B&M could fill the track with sand to help reduce noise.
It seems to be part of the job description when you move next to a major theme park, to then turn around and complain about the noise. It's disgusting.
How is Hangtime unreliable? Its the coaster that goes down the least in the park. And when it does suffer from downtime, it isn’t for a long period at all, usually only 15-30 mins

It's a shame that the theme parks in North America favor the east coast and couldn't give less of a damn about the west coast
Knotts needs a coaster with good capacity. Any B&M model over 200 feet would be ideal. Knotts struggles with operations sometimes. Ghostrider runs two trains and the percentage of times the one train finishes the course and sits on the break run while the second is still loading is probably around 75%. Knotts needs something where the people come in, restraints are checked and you send it. A B&M giga, hyper or dive make the most sense.

I don't consider Hangtime a major coaster. It's fun, it's fine, but if its model can fit in indoor amusement areas and malls, etc., it just doesn't fit the category. The last real major coaster was Silver Bullet. That was a long time ago. I'm very thankful for what Knott's has done in the last decade or so with upgrading the Log Ride, Mine Train, and Rapids, but it's definitely time for something big. It's been way too long.

I live about 20 min. away from Knott's and my last visit was 4 years ago. Any new "thrill" coaster would entice me to make another visit but a giga would definitely prompt me to purchase a season pass for years to come.

This park is the definition of “a bunch of B/B+ rides without a true standout”. It’s already considered a top 4-5 cedar fair park regardless, just imagine what finally having a headline coaster would do for Knotts

@@Johnnyiswhere no it’s not lmao. Mystic Timbers is an example of an A tier coaster. Ghost Rider is surely above average, but you failed to name a single stand out element in it (speed, pacing, length, air time, whip, etc)
Any chance Knotts had at getting a Giga died with the Six Flags & Cedar Fair merger.
The new Six Flags would only put 1 giga in the region, and Magic Mountain would be the obvious better choice. It fits the park better, it would be A LOT cheaper, and they could do more with it (bigger & less restricted layout options).

Cedar Fair has controlling stake though. It makes sense that knots would get it over magic mountain, or both. They are two completely different types of Park serving two different markets.

3 train ops are overrated when train #3 always gets stacked behind #2. Only Universal/Disney are capable of using 3+ trains properly it seems in reality.
That was a great video, one of your best. So good, it made alternative universe me write B&M a 35 million dollar check to make this happen at Knotts. They offered me an Orion clone, but I insisted it be more like Fury.

YES!! this is what Knott's needs, especially with the issue of MonteZOOMa's revenge
And don't forget the on and off issues with Xelerator. We all hope that this most recent fix is permanent, but in a year or two we could see it SBNO once again. Time to get a giga in there to add some reliability.
I think a giga, for Knotts would be absolutely amazing. Do I want my home park to get a giga? Absolutely. Will it happen? Absolutely not. The noise bothering the neighbors is not an issue. They can deal with that, corporate has the money to buy it. They are just too cheap. Knotts is an absolute cash cow and corporate rakes in, an insane amount of money from this park year-round with barely any investment. The park is slammed with crowds almost every day that isn’t a school day. Why bother dumping tens of millions of dollars into capital investment when the people still show up and spend money anyway? The parks idea of a big new attraction retheming an old dark ride. After visiting several other major parks in the chain over the past few years, I have come to realize that knots getting something incredibly awesome like a giga is just a pipe dream. I hope sincerely that I am wrong.
You hit the nail on the head. Cash cow, low investments, people still show because of the low price points, no RSVP & meal plan. Knott's knows this. Which enables them to keep the status quo going.
It sux, but it's easy guaranteed money, sadly.
For what it's worth, HangTime hasn't operated with 3 trains since, like, opening day. It almost exclusively runs two with the third cycled through maintenance, just like GhostRider and Silver Bullet with their 3rd trains.

okay here’s the thing, yes giga coaster/hyper for knotts would be amazing and everyone single reason you list is great but you have to think realistically; kbf is smack in the middle of buena park with a lot of residents. It would ruin the horizon view and also it would be super loud. knotts would love it and im sure they want to do it but its gonna be hard to get that approved with the city. also it could kind of ruin the vibe that knotts has, it feels small but endless and its very throughly themed this giga could kind of ruin it with the noise and the giant structure

I don't think there's room in Knott's for a giga unless they take over the"main" parking lot. Which it looks like your plans take into account.
But the bigger problem will be the NIMBYs who don't want anything built unless it's a Costco.
I'm serious on the Costco comment. I've seen Nimbys don't want more housing being built and complain that it'll bring too much traffic, but would love a Costco there which would bring worse traffic.

lol jokes aside I really hope this happens. I'd even settle for a mini hyper at this point. I'm pretty sure Knotts will receive something, most likely a very large addition in 2025/26, mainly due to Universals new addition, and possibly SFMM new addition, as well as the fact that by the end of next year, they haven't added a new major ride for six years! (they actually lost one instead (Montezoomas)). Knotts Berry Farm is Cedar Fairs highest earning and most attended park, so I'm guessing the cost isn't the biggest problem. I would actually say the biggest issue that would prevent a giga from becoming reality is the noise, rather than even the space. They had to put a roof on GhostRiders drop, and this theoretical coaster would be even closer to residential areas, as well as alot louder. Even if the filled the tracks with sand to avoid the B&M roar, the screaming, combined with the fact that the train is still moving at upwards of 90mph might be a reason that Knotts will never get a giga.
The lift hill is facing East away from nearby homes, the 1st turnaround is over 500ft away from the closest homes, behind the motel that's across the street from it.
The potential sound pollution of the coaster was taken inti account with its design and placement.
Your opening statement is how I feel everytime I think of what knott's "could be" but known it won't because the people running the park aren't pushing for this project, although the public wants it.
So I'm sure knott's would actually agree with you, and actually wants to stop all talk and rumors about this coaster because those currently running knott's aren't putting in the motivation it takes from a higher up level to make it happen.
Not like the group that ran knott's back in 1998 -2008, those 10 years they were VERY aggressive with adding rides the most in knott's history.
Although I’m from New Jersey, Knott’s is my favorite park. They absolutely need a giga or at least a hyper. Their lines are really long, and they could use a people eater.

Agreed. Remember when Carowinds was the epitome of “quantity over quality”, and then added Intimidator and Fury. Knotts would experience a similar transformation if it was to add a high caliber coaster

If SEAS Entertainment decide to install a giga for it's Tampa location more power to them, despite the Midwest/East Coast already displaying those in several locations.

2028 is the year to have Knott's fixed up. Even if Monty goes, everything must be running. Disney is the competition now that MM and KBF are under the same ownership. Knott's has better theming than Magic Mountain. However, there are plenty of good reasons why the giga would go there instead. If not a giga then a one of a kind immersive ride like the Intamin Dome Theater would fit the bill.

I paid $100 for a Fastlane pass at Carowinds, Rhode Fury 325 - 30+ times in 2hrs. Flew from California JUST to experience that ride.
Without a doubt, that was the best $100 I've EVER spent. Fury is life changing.
They desperately need a ride with higher capacity. Ghostrider, Silver Bullet, and Hangtime are all really bad with capacity.

I'm not hating, but I dont see a giga coming to this park anytime soon. I think this merger was to consolidate and shrink debt. I have little confidence that six flags will make an investment of a giga to a b+ park in the next 3 yrs. Think they will squeeze every last drop of blood from their portfolio before they make an investment like a giga to knotts. Hope I'm wrong but just a realist.
Knott's may be a B+ park as far as their coaster lineup, but are A-level in terms of attendance. They are #10 in the U.S. and #1-9 are the Disney and Universal parks.
My point exactly. They are going to capitalize on attendance. Rake in the money the next 2-3 yrs and attempt to maximize profits from the park. Dont foresee them making any major investment in regards to a giga for atleast 2-3 yrs. That makes sense right?
A few issues:
1. In general, Knott's is a bit too far away to really be considered as competition for Universal Studios Hollywood. Disneyland Resort is really the one Knott's has to compete with, though to be fair this would still be all the more reason for Knott's to get a new big thrill coaster.
2. With the merger of Six Flags and Cedar Fair (assuming it goes through), it's unlikely the new parent company is going to want to put a giga at both Knott's and Magic Mountain, for the simple fact that the price tag would be crazy and, unless one of them is going to be an Intamin or some other manufacturer, it'd risk drawing attention away from one another all for a coaster that offers the exact same experience.

As a dueling S&S El Loco Coaster, where each train with have two cars together that has all of the same inversion type of elements that a normal El Loco coaster has, and a few unique featured elements that no other one has, with a very similar layout that this iconic coaster had.

Your math is off on the upsales. First off, Knott’s is NOT open 365 days a year. They are always always always closed Christmas Day. Longstanding tradition that I thought that might change when Cedar Fair bought Knott’s, but it did not.
Secondly, attendance is not very high on weekdays throughout the winter season. We are talking 5-6k people at most with walk on ride conditions. Thus no real need for a Fastlane.
Additionally, if it’s a weekday and it rains a lot Knott’s will close early or not even open. So there are a lot of things that would impact sales predictions adversely.
I'll actually disagree. Knotts doesn't need a giga. There are not enough people who would care about this part, or who would actually want to work at ANY theme park for that matter that would honestly want to see this happen. Read between the lines about how much I could care less...
