SUPER SHOE BATTLE: If I had to pick one -- Metaspeed Sky VS Nike Alphayfly 1.0

- The Alphafly 3 releases tomorrow at 9am Central standard time and I will be on this very computer refreshing my browser every five seconds. This topic actually surfaces in this Shoe battle video between the Nike Alphafly 1.0 versus the Asics Metaspeed sky which is why it made my thumbnail. I know, I know, 2 videos in the same week! Must be a new me.
Regrettably, the Metaspeed Sky has passed away. It is survived by the Novablast 3 and the always colorful ASICS TriNoosa 14 and well, we can't afford the Superblast so he is likely not to show up to the funeral. There are, however, 20-25 other pairs of running shoes to continue the legacy.
If you had to pick one shoe for a marathon, what would it be?
I am hoping to try the Alphafly 3 for the Houston Marathon in a couple of about 11 days but if I don't... .... .... what's it going to be?

vaporfly 2 is the GOAT in my book. a little bit more rubber and less cush in the forefoot so it feels more aggressive than vaporfly 3. it's the perfect half marathon shoe
I love that shoe as well. I have to be mentally prepared because it’s like a little coach under my feet motivating me to go faster even when I’m suffering .

Something around 850 kilometers. I use shoes from Adidas. Running 1300-1500 km but only 1 time a week in this same pair. I have a lot of pairs , change for every training.
Lol, Hope u try vaporfly 3 one day and compare with Alphafly 3. Btw, is ur shoe size 7.5? I saw that u bought women's 9 for Alphafly 3.
😂 no I am DEFINITELY a men’s size 9. So I will be returning those and making the best of some shoe or another for the Houston marathon. Haven’t decided yet but reminding myself the training gets the result and not the shoe ha

Ha-I went into my favorite running store while visiting here in SD to pick up gels and they brought out an AF3 (of which they’d just rec’d a couple in my size). I had been planning to order a fresh pair of Endo Pro3’s for April but naturally I tried the Nike’s. And I was impressed. They held them all week and I went back after my 12 mi LR yesterday to see how they felt on tired legs. Oh dear. I bought them. I hated the last Nike shoe I tried-the VF Next% years ago--and never planned to even try any others. Now I have 30 days to test them on a LR at home and compare them to my Endo Pro3’s which have quite a few miles on them. But I’ll be able to tell if they’re better for me or not. Damn, I got sucked in.
🤣 I love it! I’ve always been a fan of the AF. That and the metaspeed sky deliver the most energy return for me . The VF are a bit aggressive - and now the VF3 are “less aggressive “ and built more for the marathon so I’m trying to talk myself out of them
Since I have not run in the vaporfly 3 or the alpha fly 3 I would definitely recommend one of them!!
I was hopping there was an after scene after the dramatic cut where you were giving "Other Me" a beat down.

It's funny to see how we runners who have never run in Alpha or Vapor are on the sidelines of the Alpha 3 madness, while at the same time those who have tried them are DESPERATE to get a pair

If you can get the upper to work for you, the Adios Pro 3 is a wonderful marathon racing shoe!

Still looking for a sale on Alphafly V2.... Alphafly is an amazing technical achievement.. Compared to landing on a moon 🎉
Metaspeed Sky (OG) was definitely a great shoe, also got it to almost 400 miles. First Alphafly was my first marathon racer, and is still in rotation with about 250 miles so far. Still feel more than good enough for long workouts, saving the legs with that mighty ZoomX cushion. Didn't test the Alphafly 3 yet, local reseller organized a pre-sale so I got them January 2nd 😛 As for the shoe battle between those two OG's: depends a lot on the type of runner I guess ...

Negative. Nike was out instantly. Dick’s I managed to get a pair of size 9 then realized in the confirmation email, they’re women’s. Now my dilemma is AF1 or the VP3

I have the Metaspeed Edge plus and Sky plus and the plate is not CF it's stone.. Zeroed flexibility. Love the Metaspeed Sky Plus but the Edge plus is a disappointment unless you go all out.

- changes it to almond butter, a tree nut. 😂 For the allergy challenged it's all about that sunbutter and jelly. (Former peanut fiend who no longer can enjoy the nuts at home since I found out my daughter is allergic to them all. Damn you food allergies!)
As a hobby jogger at best who is currently on a forced running break in order to study for a career related test, I've never worn anything other than basic daily trainers. I'm hoping to jump back into running after passing this test and then start slowly building up to do my first marathon in the fall of next year. If that plan shakes out, I'll likely pick up a plated trainer at the least and maybe a fancy carbon fiber race shoe if I can snag a deal (so probably not AF's since they're $$$).
My youngest is extremely allergic to legumes so he can’t have peanut butter. Strangely not allergic to any tree nuts so he can have the rest. I too have given up peanut butter. 😭 run plan sounds solid !

@@MidLifeRunner omg, well I snagged a pair of VF3s and that'll do for my upcoming training blocks.
I'll be buying a pair of Alphafly 3 shoes and placing them in my shoe rotation in 2026, after they've recouped all the R&D and advertising and they're about $149. Until then I'll have to slum along in my rotation of Clifton 9, Novablast 3, etc. Do you really want the pressure of wearing that shoe? I'm not sure my ego can take racing in a pair of Alphafly 3 shoes.....and suddenly some guy in a pair of Avia or Reebok running shoes from the Walmart zooms by me. Soul crushing....

Metaspeed Sky v1 is fast. So fast. More agressive than Vaporfly. Only one shoe is as fast as Sky v1: Endorphin Elite.
I will have to try it if I can get it
