    Vacuum lines are on the wrong ports. Should be on ports below throttle blades for full manifold vacuum. The way its hooked up now, gage will move only when throttle is whacked.

    A cross ram intake manifold on a big block Chevy? COOL!!! Normally, I see those types of intakes on those old Chrysler Hemis and Wedges. Looks and sounds DAMN good. Great job, guys.

    That vacuum gauge would work a hell of alot better plugged into to the manifold vacuum port on the baseplates. Not ported vacuum.

    Nice intake, is it an original by edelbrock? Or?

    • @peteloomis8456
      @peteloomis8456 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      It looks like the old Edelbrock XC-96 BBC rectangle port cross ram from looking at it . I had one on a 70 LS6 that I put a bigger solid lifter cam that went into my 66 Chevelle SS 396 I had back in the early 80s . I had the Muncie close ratio 4 SPD with the 12 bolt rear positraction with 4:10 gears with ladder bars and it would pull the front wheels off the road with drag slicks on back . I bought the intake from my boss who sold it to me for 50.00 with the carbs and linkage and he used to run it on a modified dirt track stock car with a 427 for some years until rules mandate changed to only run small block engines back then so the engine came out and was sold but he kept the intake and used the money from the old car to build a new car for the upcoming season with a sbc with 180 deg headers that dumped behind the engine . I was at a car show a couple years ago and someone had the same intake with the carbs and linkage and they were asking 1,200 for the whole thing and the carburetors had to be rebuilt he said . I see these on eBay at times and they never go cheap and are fairly rare now so you don't see a lot of them being used much . Most guys drag racing now would rather use the tunnel ram or a big single plane intake because the single plane weighs less and are easier to tune and don't make all that much less HP because single plane high rise intake technology has come a long ways since the early days .

      John Lingenfelter built an engine for his C30 Crew Cab strictly for towing. 9 to 1 forged piston 496 with stock but cleaned up port 781 heads, 260 Comp Cam, Performer intake with a 600 Holley and cast exhaust manifolds. Torque was 500 at a very low RPM. Don't recall HP but that was 30 plus years ago on pump gas. I imagine it was around 400. Bet you can most nearly duplicate that today.

    Hey bro... These manifolds are nice to look at and all but are a motorheads worst pain in the ass.. Any Big name Single plane would easily out perform those ..and leave you smiling when you need to adjust valves or attend to valve cover gasket issues . these are a headache not worth having...But then that's just me . I know a guy who loves the Hurst T handle even though when slamming 3rd it loosened and he punched the steel dash board breaking his hand .. He still loves that handle.. I personally would rather have function which is why I use the white ball.. Another reason We use Roller cams instead of Flat tappet. They flat out suck ...

    Hi Guys any idea of ur hp & torque figures. I have one of the beautifull old manifolds. Looking at a 482 or 496. Not sure if u can go bigger on the cubes due to block & head spacing. Happy 2 be corrected. Thx 4 sharing fellas

    • @moonshineperformance9135
      @moonshineperformance9135  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Well we would guess about 400-450 hp but that is also with a decent sized cam and 10:1 compression. Also this is a 427 so it is able to rev a little bit higher and faster. And I believe a 496 is a.030" over bbc with a stroker crank but with an aftermarket block you can go way bigger. But with a gm block you could take it .060" over but I'm not sure how many cubes that makes it

      Why would you use a smaller package when the bigger one is the same price? If you make 1hp per cubic inch, you will lose about 25hp. In reality a performance engine is 1.3 roughly so a 427: 555hp 454: 590 about 40hp. Just to toss this in stroke the 454.... to a 496: 644

    • @moonshineperformance9135
      @moonshineperformance9135  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      But also gotta remember that you can turn the 427 a little bit higher and it also revs faster and its just something different and pretty cool in my opinion. But it all comes down to the owner thats what he wanted so thats what we built him. We eventually wanna do a bbc stroker in the rear engine dragster.

      @@moonshineperformance9135 literally no it doesn't. My 489 will out rev MOST 427s. That is like saying I should build a 327 because it will rev faster than a 350. NO, that is some myth that people use to justify building a 427 even though they had the parts available for a 454. If we rev a 427 and a 489 out to the same RPM, the 489 will require more cam to fill the cylinders, which will make more power.
