Today we are going to talk about a great way to add some texture to your notes! In this tutorial, I will show you 3 ways to scoop on the sax. We start off by scooping into a note. Then I’ll show you how to scoop in between notes. And finally I’ll show you how to scoop out of a note. By adding these 3 scooping techniques to your arsenal of sax articulations, you can add a whole lot of texture and flavor to your melodies and solos.

This tutorial will save novice jazz saxophonists countless hours of trying to figure it out on their own. Unfortunately, this video did not exist 40 years ago. Thanks Scott! You are a great teacher.
and remember, don't scoop every notes!
I’m not a saxophonist - I’m an arranger. Fascinating. Thanks so much.
How does the scoop and bending differs from another
Awesome lesson, Scott. I learned this when subscribing to your school last year, however its always a good review!

Excellent tutorial Scott! You have a wicked good tone. Thanks
Man. That's really awesome. Hopefully I can get this down
Tell us something about neck belts and which will be comfortable
Scott, is a scoop the same as bending a note? Thank you for sharing your videos.
Hi Scott! I had a question. Have you ever used distortion on your saxophone in a live setting? And if so, how did you manage to reduce feedback? My band uses heavily distorted saxophones in our recordings but are having a hard time getting to sound right live. We have a mic pre-amp/fx loop that we are running the mic through but we can't seem to get a solid level of distortion without feedback.
Any help and advise is super appreciated
Hey Ethan, I have. Running your sax through pedals takes a lot of gear and a lot of trial and error. You will have to play with the knobs to figure out which one gives you the distortion you want without feeding back. There's no simple answer. You just have to keep playing with the knobs until you find the right solution. I also have a small Mackie mixer at the end of my chain so I have more control of the output.
A nice "scoopy" Blue Monk!
Thanks Scott - Great tutorial
