I’ve watched this entire interview before and the detective is a complete nitwit. He was fired I believe. I think it came later on. Ryan suffered brain damage because the cop waited so long that he got an infection in his brain, had to have part of his brain removed and at least one eye, and suffered from seizures for the rest of his life until he finally died from one. The detective held him in that room, acted like he couldn’t tell there was something wrong with him, aggressively questions him while he’s dying and trying to tell him there’s something wrong, and wouldn’t get him medical support. It’s infuriating to watch. Mr. Ballen has done a good job of editing the video so the detective looks like he’s being understanding and completing the interrogation the right way , but watch the entire video and how he treats him and see how infuriating this all is. He should have gotten him medical attention as soon as he told him he was shot. I believe the family ultimately did get a settlement also. I’ve seen several of these videos about this and there is conflicting information.

Fascinating true stories. I feel bad for Ryan. His life could have been saved but once again the ignorance of detectives caused an innocent young boy his life. You are not innocent until proven guilty; you are treated as guilty until you prove your innocence.

Third time I've listened to the story of Ryan and his terrible head injuries. It is a terrible shame that the police would automatically assume Ryan was the culprit, but it is so very amazing to be conscious and able to talk and move about after being shot in the head I suppose that a lot of us would believe it must have been him. Only other thing is that his face was visually in such a bad way you would think the police would have taken him to the hospital straight away for treatment.

That is sad that those tires killed a beautiful person. Driving in the early 80s, one of the mechanics at my company didn't like me, so he didn't put the correct pin in on my rear driver's trailer tires. I was coming into New York state, a very busy highway. I was so scared I thought it would hit someone but I was lucky. The company didn't do anything. I was a young female truck driver and many men were prejudiced against women drivers. I didn't matter. When I did my checks there was no way I could tell what they had done. Something was watching over me!

In the case of Ryan and Heather. Dalton mentioned to the paramedic the way he's acting made him think he had a serious brain injury. If he thought this during the interview why didn't he get medical to check Ryan for a concussion. I'm sure medical would have seen the 4 holes. Also every second counts it's not mentioned in the story of the time between the attack and the welfare check as being a factor of ever increasing brain damage. When you factor the two days before and the time after you get at least two and a half days.

ACTUAL BALLEN SHIRTS have the following characteristics: Most, but not all plaid shirts have mock leather collars, the majority of MrBallens shirts are buttoned down pockets with an equal number of double pockets and single pockets , MrBallen seems to favor shirts with double pockets, 90% of MrBallens shirts are deviant plaids (The pattern of plaid on the pockets does not match the shirt) all of MrBallens shirts are long sleeve with the sleeves rolled two folds on the forearm and below the elbow.. I feel like he may have sustained a head injury when he played football in High School. How could his own mother just drop him back off like nothing was out of the ordinary. In fact if my brother started to walk into the road to test his mortality and he had been acting off all summer I would a trip to the hospital right then. Whether it was a head injury or dugs or a combination of both ignoring it all summer and hoping it would go away just astounds me. Austin was tweaking. Sometimes, it takes a person a long time to get it back together, and sometimes, people never come back. I was bipolar, or possibly schizophrenic. The two are often misdiagnosed as the other. I have PTSD from my last relapse... no joke. My uncle is permanently burnt after meth. He has full conversations with himself in different voices. Meth is straight from hell. Two words were used for sorcery in the New Testament. Magios and pharmakea. Pharmakea is where we get the word pharmacy. Administering drugs opens doors you don't want open. It affects not only you but also those around you. If anyone reading this struggles with addiction, there's hope in Yahshua (Jesus), and I'm praying for you.

With Ryan's case, how horrible the situation was, from what I can tell, he was in his home approximately one and a half days after he was shot. I would think that amount of time with the bullets in his brain already had caused the brain damage. True, it most likely kept getting progressively worse.

The story about Ryan is hard for me to watch. It’s so frustrating that the detective is so aggressive and treating him like he was a definitely guilty already. I hate cowboy cops like that who think they are smarter than anyone who isn’t a cop 😡

Ryan's story is nothing short of heartbreaking. To think that he suffered for days because the incident took place for days before the police got to the apartment and then suffered for long hours, got interrogated for more hours before he was treated. To think he lived for ten years clinically blind and disabled is too heart breaking to imagine. 😭😭😥😥😥😢

The poor young man Ryan... I've seen this story twice now and my first thought each time was he seems injured and confused. He seemed so confused, like his mind was trying to process and couldn't make the connections. He looked like he got hit in the head with a bat or something. It breaks my heart and amazes me how often INVESTIGATORS, don't investigate they make assumptions. They basically tortured this poor young man instead of rushing him to the hospital.

No suing the police would not bring their son back but they should have definitely done it. Maybe from then on they wouldn't get tunnel vision and be blinded by their own beliefs. What happened to that young man was atrocious and for 8 hours he got no Medical care. The story really angers me this man got 28 years on this planet the last ten of them in hell blinded and with brain damage. He had holes in his head that any child should be able to realize she should receive medical Care and something should have been done crucial hours for lost where he could have had a full recovery and later on a full life. They need to be sued so changes would be made.

Listening to what happened to Ryan always makes me want to cry. So incredibly sad how this was handled. He deserved better than to have to wait 8 hours for medical attention. 8 hours he spent dealing with police before they got him medical attention. Police need more medical training so even if it’s a small caliber, they can spot the wounds much sooner.

"Locking washer" yeah no that's not going to keep the tires from coming off. Those tires being still stuck together means they're still held on by the lugs, meaning the lug nuts and lug studs are still all there, connecting the tires

I saw the story about the kid who got shot in the eye elsewhere but they never mentioned more than one shot, they also said that the brain damage the kid receive was mainly due to the detective wasting time at a critical moment, but here in this video it says that he was wondering his house for a day or two before even going to the station and the other video also said that after the operation he had a bunch of brain damage but mentioned nothing of the eyes they said also that he committed suicide shortly after nothing about 10 years later

The welfare check couple story further convinces me that any profession that overlaps another profession frequently needs to have Cross-Gap Education. The police need to know is there any bruise or hole in a person needs to be checked out medically. As well as anyone being weird, and slow and dumb. As a cop you dismiss that, but as a medical person you do not. In a very similar way, certified nurses aides and certified nurse techs need to know more about what a nurse looks for when they are doing triage on a patient needing help, or during the routine care of patients they need to know enough medically to recognize if something changes because these "lowlings" need to report to the nurse anything important so that quick action can be taken. Furthermore, nurses actually need to do the job of a CNA or a Nsg Tech, now and then, to give them a better perspective of what our job is, and to know what it is they're asking; they also need to familiarize themselves with what little we are taught that actually crosses over into their realm. How many things in our daily life come to a standstill because there is no overlap of education, understanding, or information?
