The best Simbas are Jason and Nick, and for very different reasons. Jason’s voice is so crystal clear. He has a vibrato that is like a ripple. His voice is like when the wind hits the ocean, and you feel the cool breeze. This allows different emotions to appear, which to me represents the young man who is pissed off by his circumstances. He conveys the anger so well, but also the triumph at the end when he realizes this pain will end. Nick’s voice is smooth and strong, like a mountain and the earth. He does so well when it comes to his legato and it is comforting. He more represents the still childlike nature of Simba that seeks comfort, and while Jason’s crescendo at the end shows me triumph, Nick’s shows the hope. I love both and depending on what I need, both can reach the emotions I feel. If you want to best hear what I am hearing, listen to how both of them hit the “Sleepless I dream of the day” I think it really shows what both of them see in the song.
There's something about Nick that makes it so different from all the Simba's I've heard. I always get goosebumps when I hear him, he is incredibly talented. Jason was quite incredible as well
This is so great. He has a boyish, innocent quality to his voice that really works with the song. And those riffs and runs are to die for (as well as that chest)! Great job!
Yes, I feel like he represents the child that was lost on the day Mufasa died and still holds the guilt and someone like Jason Raize shows the angry barely an adult who feels abandoned.
I think Nick owned this song nick sounds humble and innocent and it's perfect cause simba feels lost and stressed ,my song for Jason is he lives in you because his voice is strong and perfect for it because simba finds strength and he knows his father is inside him plus can we all agree that they are both very beautiful men xD
We shouldn't compare him to Jason Raize even if it's hard because Jason's voice was unique. His voice really got on the soul and to me he'll always be the best. But I have to say that Nick is my second best: loved the voice, which is so sexy and light, loved the moves and the facial expressions
truth be told nick and jason are by fare the beast simba's to date they both have very unique voice's and they both bring unique acting styles to the character of simba
I agree but I have to say that Jonathan Andrew Hume is amazing too!! I saw him few weeks ago and I was stunned!! same goes for all simbas in my opinion!
Okay... I've listened to Nick sing this song and also have constantly listened to Jason sing it on the cast recording and can honestly say that Nick and Jason are my two favorite Simbas. So sad that Jason took his own life :'( was such an amazing talent
He is SOOOOO GOOD! I saw the Lion King on tour in the USA at the beginning of June and it was AMAZING! And it's true, every actor that plays Simba has a different way that they portray him, but Nick is one of my favorites.
Wow, that was a great performance. Nick really drew in his audience with the emotion behind his voice and his expressive actions. I love how he carried the notes, to, he really made the song his own. Bravo! =D
2:30 oh my Lord. He's so good! The acting!! And on top of that, you need some killer placement cause that note is right on the tenor passaggio. Any error and that's either a strained note or a big crack. It's so cool cause this song is placed right in that chesty belt area of a guy, so when youre singing in that area, the head resonance starts to influence the tone of the voice. It gives it this brighter tone and because it's a belt, it has a pure/vulnerable sound that captures the emotion of "crying out" so perfectly! Literally Simba is crying out to his father asking him why wasn't he there for him when he promised he would. Why wasn't he there when he needed him the most. Such a beautiful song!!! 😭😭😭
Saw the show in London with my little granddaughter, who sat through the whole performance!😂 Nick was a great Simba and the cast was incredible. So enjoyed this song, great memories 🎉
Being a Samoan and Playing Adult Nala on broadway in Australia and meeting him and working with him for 6 months now and seeing him sing is a different view from knowing him and his voice is impressive.
Libby Padulia LIES. Nala was played by Josslyn Hlenti and as a Samoan I reckon I would've heard if there was another Samoan in the show besides Nick, Graeme Isaako who was an understudy and the young girl who was one of the young Nalas for the Sydney production. Also, they kept pretty much the entire cast when they moved to different cities. And Lion King is no longer running in Australia. Nick is currently reprising his role as Simba on the West End. And if you really did work in musical theatre you would know Broadway refers to the New York City theatre district 😑
All the lionking on Brodway characters and actors are part of our huge fam and I am their lil bro bro and I can sing Endless Night and go on my Facebook and go under my friends list
I have tears running down my face. With a heavy heart I used to listen to this song at Boarding School. I used to cry thinking what an empty home I’ll be going home to. My parents were never home and I sometimes stayed at the boarding school over Christmas as they were going on holiday with their rich friends. Such a sad song.
@@Melissa_9 thank you. It just bring back so many memories for me. I was very close to my father. Not so my mum. I’m an only child so my upbringing was pretty lonely. But thank you for your sweet message. 💖💖💖
Been trying to sing sing this song through its entirety for the last 20 years.. am only now being able to do it and just hitting those notes at the end.. very exhausting song, takes a lot out of you. Need to envoke major Simba power for this.
I saw the musical two days ago in London and all the cast was amazing! Nick Afoa is super passionate in this song, I cried. I'm literally in love with this musical.
I've seen Nick twice as Simba but I also saw Vince Harder another Samoan brother back when Lion King first came to Australasia over 10 years ago and he was great also. Jay Laga'aia was awesome as Mufasa too in that original production. I'm surprised they didn't cast him as Chief Tui in Moana since he can sing as well.
Here are the lyrics btw for anyone Where has the starlight gone? Dark is the day How can I find my way home? Home is an empty dream Lost to the night Father, I feel so alone You promised you'd be there Whenever I needed you Whenever I call your name You're not anywhere I'm trying to hold on Just waiting to hear your voice One word, just a word will do To end this nightmare When will the dawning break Oh endless night Sleepless I dream of the day When you were by my side Guiding my path Father, I can't find the way You promised you'd be there Whenever I needed you Whenever I call your name You're not anywhere I'm trying to hold on Just waiting to hear your voice One word, just a word will do To end this nightmare I know that the night must end And that the sun will rise And that the sun will rise I know that the clouds must clear And that the sun will shine And that the sun will shine Simba and I know that the night must end And that the sun will rise And that the sun will rise I know that the clouds must clear And that the sun will shine And that the sun will shine (Repeat to end) I know Yes, I know The sun will rise Yes, I know I know The clouds must clear I know that the night must end I know that the sun will rise And I'll hear your voice deep inside I know that the night must end And that the clouds must clear The sun The sun will rise The sun The sun will rise
I like the voice of Nick Afoa better. No matter how many times I listened to both of the versions. Of course, Jason is also fantastic. But the soulful Samoan style of Nick gives the kick. But anyway, telling who is better is subjective.
I too agree that we shouldn't compare but the truth is no other person has been able to do justice to this song as Jason. His voice was pure magic and beauty. His intensity and passion of the way he sang endless night can never be compared unfortunately. I really hate the fact that every time I hear someone else sing this song I try my hardest to find the beauty in it but unfortunately have not been able to. RIP Jason there will be no other like you

he really had me with the ACTIONS. and the fact that when Simba sings this he really is restless and he really did it well.Great job Nick

i didnt get why he was pacing until now
Lions and other animals display stress and anxiety by pacing around
Simba is stressed bc of his father's death
One of my goals is to work on stage with Nick Afoa. He is definitely one of the best people to play Simba

Lost to the night
Father, I feel so alone
You promised you'd be there

Oh endless night
Sleepless I dream of the day
When you were by my side
Guiding my path

You promised you'd be there
Whenever I needed you
Whenever I call your name
You're not anywhere
I'm trying to hold on

And that the sun will rise
I know that the clouds must clear
And that the sun will shine
And that the sun will shine
Simba and I know that the night must end
And that the sun will rise
And that the sun will rise
I know that the clouds must clear

They are both great for different reasons. Although I do agree with the soulful comment. =)
didn't Jason kill himself?
Unfortunately he did, yes.
is it truth that he did it cause' he was gay and his father didn't accept ?
No one knows, his body was found hung in a burn where he worked, in Australia. I doubt it was due to his sexuality, though...
Best version!
Totally in love

I wish they would have done a TLK remake like this, instead of the creepo CGI we got with shitty celebrity pop artists.
the remake should have been a 4K recording of the broadway production. period.
