    "Apartment 17" is the latest from the "Deceit" developer. Yep. It's about a musically-inclined apartment complex haunted by a spooky ghost. Thanks for watching!

    So let me get this straight.
    The developer illegally used comic book covers for no reason, stole the night 5 phone call audio from fnaf, and used a possibly real 911 call for his piece of shit game. Absolutely Disgusting

      As if the comments are in any way credible. There is credible evidence to suggest that the video was used for training purposes and was staged (You can't release 9/11 calls that involve death). Despite that I like to assume it is real just to be on the safe side. The point is, just because it is said in the comments and has a bunch of likes doesn't mean it is absolute truth.

    • @keyb7itz
      @keyb7itz 8 ปีที่แล้ว +25

      Don't forget that some people in the comments are saying that the newspaper is also real. No idea the legitimacy of these claims, but considering everything else in the game, it isn't too crazy a proposition.
      This is just all around a very classy and tasteful developer.

    Not only does the dev steal copyrighted material, FNAF audio, and also slapping Sonys logo on that tv, they took it upon themselves to take a real 911 phone call of someone getting murdered and think it's okay? And ask people to PAY for it? What the hell is wrong with these game developers now a days? I don't think they even deserve to get called that. Get a refund ASAP if possible.

    • @Satanisbyfarthekinde

      They didn't make the TV. I've seen that exact not-Sony TV in a couple of other games, including a tech demo for The Works of Mercy.
      I would be shocked if anything featured in this game was actually made by the dev, considering the obvious.

    I respect your decision to remove the call, rather fake or not. Making money off of someone elses death, although done on a daily basis i presume, is down right distasteful. Steam should ban the game and all profits should be seized and released to the family.

    • @Halo3machenima
      @Halo3machenima 6 ปีที่แล้ว +14

      You should already know that will not happen. Nobody ever has their profits seized for a controversial image, video, or sound in their indie game. The courts don't take any action in these cases. And its even harder when you are talking about people from other countries like Russia (which is where a lot of these games come from). As far as we are concerned, the guy is untouchable. Plus, that would mean youtube and many other video hosting sites would be shut down immediately if this was possible. It only takes a quick 2 minute search to find real death videos online. Hell, there is an entire sub-reddit dedicated to this called "r/watchpeopledie".

Why you need to get info like name of the caller, location of the crime, description of the perpetrator(s). I tried to sreach for the origins of the call and have found nothing. Now there are 100s of 911 calls everyday so you aren't going to find every call. However there is a chance that it is real so it's still scum of the dev to put it in for profit.

    • @WhoIsJohnCleland
      @WhoIsJohnCleland 8 ปีที่แล้ว +27

      There is a place for lens flare - in a situation in which the camera is just that - a camera. Lens flare should never be used in any instance in which we are viewing things directly through the eye of a protagonist.

    • @GrayveRoseMusic
      @GrayveRoseMusic 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I dont know about Unity but in Unreal Lens Flares generate automatically based on certain lighting situations. You can of course adjust them, alter them, or turn them off, but they do generate on their own as a post process of sorts. That being said, this dude should of just gone and not made the backgrounds so bright + turn it off cause both look atrocious

    Thanks for leaving the call out John. I've listened to some disturbing 911 calls before and I always ended up crying because, call me a wuss, but I tend to connect to everything emotionally so I felt so horrible that something as messed up as I heard had actually happened to another person. I can still hear and feel their fear, which means something since I suffer from memory loss and can't even remember 5 minutes ago. You saved me a lot with that one, and I'm sorry you had to hear it.

      I disagree, i would have at least wanted to read what the woman said in the call/CD. I was able to find it and if it is the right one it's an elderly lady/woman calling 911 stressed/worried/scared because there was a person "looking for an apartment close to her house" she doesn t say much but after that ... well look for it. He could have warned the viewers about this but you can t say "I don t like scary things and then remove the scary part of a game", I agree on the moral part that if this is a real video it inmoral (to some of you/readers) to let him profit from this but it is uncertain if this is a real audio.
      This happens mostly because of the new restrictions of youtube, the concern of youtubers of losing their accounts and etc.
      + It is not that easy to find.

    • @realafah
      @realafah 8 ปีที่แล้ว +26

      Krieg Piazzolla I understand that taking away the things that make something scary because you don't like scary things is stupid, but that's not what's going on here. It's not removed because it's scary but because it actually is a real event that happened and it can be very traumatizing. The most aweful thing you can do to someone is break them mentally, because that can never go away. It wasn't scary, it was more sad and heartbreaking more than anything. Being able to hear someone's life end as they call for help, to most, it's something that can break you. It wouldn't be as bad if they made the audio themselves based off a script, but they were too good for that apparently and thought it would be just as effective or more to get real audio. It is actually real by the way.
      You can't blame the TH-cam monotization for him removing it because he didn't do it for them. John did it because there are way more people in the world who would be affected by it negatively that he would rather not show it in respect to them rather than just because he won't get paid if he doesn't. I'm not trying to say he didn't do it for that reason, I mean to keep the vid monotized is at least one of the reasons, but it's not an important one compared to affecting people negatively.
      Forgive me if I'd rather not listen to the audio, but I'm an Empath and I can't just listen to it and hope for the possiblity that it's fake and try not to feel. I hate how sappy I sound, but I just don't know how to explain.
      I appreciate the fact you agree that what the game developer did was horrible, though. Sorry about the long text.

    Yo John, that newspaper clipping featured in the game and on the game's download page is an ACTUAL murder that happened in 1945. So, not only was the call ripped off from someone else's actual death (debated) that newspaper story was the real deal.

    Thanks for not including the call. Really glad I didn't have to hear it. Horror is horror, but there's no effing need to bring in real cases and real lives into a product that is supposed to be for entertainment purposes.
    PS: Should give the dev the benefit of the doubt, however. He/she may not be aware that it was a real call. I remember some game that used an image of the James Bulger murder when he was being led away in the shopping mall, and it had to be taken down in the UK. Devs didnt know it was a real abduction/murder.

    • @JohnWolfe
      @JohnWolfe  8 ปีที่แล้ว +78

      It's true that the dev may not have known. It's hard to feel much sympathy for them in that respect though, they should have just made their own recording.
      The newspaper clipping used in the video (I didn't know this at the time) is also real, featuring the photograph of a real murder victim. So if they didn't know, it seems like quite a coincidence that they would feature TWO real murder victims in this 10-minute game.

    Hi, I do some 3D environment art here and there. And I can say that games like this...games that look and feel as though they've been created in a weekend,... probably were.
    Right now I'm working on some assets; a wooden chair, and a wooden table. Both of which take about 1-2 days to block out, sculpt, retopologize, unwrap, bake high- to low poly maps, and paint the diffuse/albedo/colour map.
    If a game looks and feels like less effort has been put into it than it takes for me to create a lousy, simple, wooden chair... why would anyone even have to pay for your product?
    They're a disgrace to the industry, and give indie devs a bad name.
    That's all, thank you.

      It was unknown whether or not she survived for sometime, yes, but it was in the last year or 2ish when the breakthrough happened for people doing research on the case. the points you hit on in this video John about the 911 call and the creating process I highly agree with you on. It's different when you are talking about events that have happened and giving backstory to a 911 call and sharing it that but putting it in you game 'cause it fits your plot is just out right rude and not necessary, like they could have made their own recording and used it instead.
    The creative process, agreed with you on all the points. It takes time and many passes. I know when I create a piece of art it goes through many stages before I have a finish product/piece, I'll thumbnail and concept, sketch and rough sketch, tight sketch, ink and re-ink, flat color, touchup, get advice, step away come back edit then finish, it takes time to craft something that is worth handing out to the masses and being like "I made this"
    The less effort you put into something people will notice and not want it or anything to do with you as a creator, time, effort, love and care for a project is key to make a good thing

    Ruth’s 911 call is used for training. It’s thought to be real and it’s awful.
    Ruth phones the police to say a suspicious person is hanging around her home. They fail to get her address before she is murdered over the line, it’s used to teach the importance of saying “911, what the location of your emergency?” Due to this fault, the person was never caught as they couldn’t find the location in time.
    It’s used rather widely and many operators hear it as a teaching point. It’s shocking and upsetting, using it in this context is nothing more that disgusting.

    It's not that hard to record yourself making a fake 911 call. Shout out to you for cutting it out. Not only is it disrespectful, it could possibly trigger someone into an anxiety attack (not going to lie, I'd probably be one of them)

    You're such a kind, thoughtful, empathetic person. You're not just honest, you don't just have a highly detail-oriented, critical, intelligent mind. You have a big heart too. You're officially tied for first place with Gab as my all-time favourite Let's Player, and easily in my Top 10 TH-camrs, period.
    Please don't ever change all these wonderful things about yourself. They're your best qualities, and why I chose to subscribe to you after years of stumbling onto your videos by random chance. I only wish I'd thoroughly/properly discovered your channel sooner.
    Cheers, man. You're what TH-cam should be all about.

    Honestly in the case of games like this, I think its less that the developer doesn't know but more that they don't care. They just want to make a quick buck off of already created assets anyone can throw together in a weekend (marketplace items, stolen art/music/sounds, and gameplay code copied from tutorials).

    I am one of those people who finds a channel and goes thru to watch everything on the channel - regardless of how old vids are..
    I sincerely appreciate you stopping the video to let us know that you cant record the phone call. I have DV related PTSD and if I had heard that call, I would have had a panic attack.
    Kudos to you for not perpetuating the violence.

    Thank you for being open and serious about how development should be. I'm a game designer and have been working on two games with two indie teams for like... 1 year? Maybe 1 1/2? And I 100% agree that throughout those months we constantly are reviewing the games and asking others to. That's something SO SO SOOOOO important that new developers really need to understand. ESPECIALLY if you want money for it. So thanks again for completely understanding that :) :)

    The newspaper article (with picture) looked real too. If so, that would make this guy exploiting two separate murder victims for his shitty 10-minute horror game.
    Considering that that's just one of several illegal things done in this game, I really hope he faces some repercussions. Using the voice or likeness of somebody for your paid product in a non-educational format like this isn't just morally repulsive, it's against the law.

    It will be forgotten by the morrow...

    Thank you John, you are a good person. As far as I know the "Ruth case" hasn't been solved yet. Creepy and sad.
