You guys this song's about a girl who's in love with her friend... Who's also a girl. Or at least that's what the lyrics say. Apparently the singer has a thing for singing from a girl's POV (does it in 2 songs)
You are the girl that I've been dreaming of Ever since I was a little girl You are the girl that I've been dreaming of Ever since I was a little girl One! I'm biting my tongue Two! He's kissing on you Three! Oh, why can't you see? One! Two! Three! Four! Word's on the streets and it's on the news: I'm not gonna teach him how to dance with you He's got two left feet and he bites my moves I'm not gonna teach him how to dance, dance, dance, dance! The second I do, I know we're gonna be through I'm not gonna teach him how to dance with you He don't suspect a thing, I wish he'd get a clue I'm not gonna teach him how to dance, dance, dance, dance! You are the girl that I've been dreaming of Ever since I was a little girl You are the girl that I've been dreaming of Ever since, ever since One! One! You're biting my tongue Two! I'm kissing on you Three! Is he better than me? One! Two! Three! Four! Word's on the streets and it's on the news: I'm not gonna teach him how to dance with you He's got two left feet and he bites my moves I'm not gonna teach him how to dance, dance, dance, dance! Oh! Dodododododododo dance, dance, dance, dance Oh! Dodododododododo dance, dance, dance, dance Oh! Dodododododododo dance, dance, dance, dance Oh! Dodododododododo dance, dance, dance, dance Dance, dance, dance, dance, dance!
I remember the year this song came out I was a freshman in college. On a break driving home, my friend and I rocked out to this so obnoxiously across like half the state! Such good memories!
@@DanielAy_ I'm genuinely curious as to why you have the urge to comment the way you do, are you bored or get joy from it? I really want to understand why you don't do something more fun with your time instead
I don't get why people hate on other people because they found this song through other means, like 2 broke girls or glee, rather than following the band from the very start. It doesn't matter! We're all here for the same reason, to listen to a great song. Less talk, more listening.
yes thank you! being brought here from something else just means you know when you've heard some good music and wanna hear the original. i heard this on glee and came here to listen to black kids' version, and now black kids have an extra fan. everyone wins as far as i'm concerned so yay!
this song is the perfect cure for pain. if im mad or upset or depressed, i just listen to this song cause it just sounds so happy and makes me dance :)
When I see this song on MTV first time... in my mind i was thinking: "Refreshing" ... songs like these make me wanna find out about more bands who are not that "famous"
im a glee addict and i like it more when i find out awesome muic through the show., so who care what people think? some glee ingers (like leah michele arent bad at all and they give us insight to good songs. think positively people
thanks man. you the jam! i really wanted to find this to share with my friends that have horrid music taste.. all i could find ... well, you know the story :)
I know a lot of people have problems with people liking songs after they've been performed on Glee, but without Glee I would have never known about bands like Black Kids and the Yeah Yeah Yeahs. So, thank you glee.
somebody said their vocalist sounds like Gerard Way from My Chemical Romance what the hell?! and that is what brought me here; he sounds nothing like Gerard, but this band's not bad either :) accidental finds are the best
@@B.Mitten7 idk but I have lol the song gets stuck in my head sometimes I just randomly hum the opening rift "da da dadadada" and by the end of the day I've played the song like 20 times. Its such an earworm lol
I have heard this song before but then i heard it on Role Models the other night now and it got stuck in my head... it is catchy as shit but idk why i like it so much lol
I think you might have missed out a vital 'you' in that rambling incoherent, er, 'come-back'. I can quite believe you have million of them, but honestly I've no wish to hear them. And I never actually praised the song once during this fascinating exchange! Though I did quote Shakespeare out of context, you've got me there. Seeing as how we aren't stage actors I fail to see how I could quote any Shakespeare in context, but hey-ho there we go!
@defensive101 It was actually stated in an interview that (quote:) It’s a catch phrase that my brother and I used to say for everyone, like ‘I’ve wanted one since I was a little girl,’ it’s an inside joke with friends. People can take it however they want. I know a lot of lesbians who think the song is cute, if they want to apply it to their personal live they can.
"You are the girl that I've been dreaming of, ever since i was a little girl": No, his sister is not a lesbian. In an interview, his sister stated: "It’s a catch phrase that my brother and I used to say for everyone, like ‘I’ve wanted one since I was a little girl,’ it’s an inside joke with friends. People can take it however they want. I know a lot of lesbians who think the song is cute, if they want to apply it to their personal life they can.
@Microdancingdancing The song "your woman" by white town is sung by a guy from the persective of a girl. Besides, songs are just songs. They don't have to mean anything. she wrote it for her brother to sing. Besides, it could be about heroworship or besties, not necessarily love. And if it is, so what? Some people are gay. It shouldn't change who they are in your eyes.
About the " why does he say ever since i was a little girl" comment i found this interview which said this : “I’m Not Going to Teach Your Boyfriend How to Dance With You” have your brother singing ‘You are the girl that I’ve been dreaming of ever since I was a little girl?” AY: It’s a catch phrase that my brother and I used to say for everyone, like ‘I’ve wanted one since I was a little girl,’ it’s an inside joke with friends. People can take it however they want.
I saw the movie, and thought at first that they were The CURE…but I didn't know this song and was confused until I finally found… another great band:-)
AND TO ALL: This, dear people, is a music video. Comments on songs tend to be about songs, not racial opinions. IT'S A SONG! (and a good song at that ;)
this song makes me wanna fall in love and just sit there and listen to this song and grow old together and listen to this song and just ahh idk im in love with this song
Ali, the singer's sister, said in an interview that it was an inside joke between her and her brother because whenever they'd want something, they'd say "I've wanted one since I was a little girl". It wasn't intentionally supposed to have a homosexual/cross-dressing/whatever else people say about it meaning.
@veltson12345 actually Ali Youngblood (the "sister" you refer to) stated herself that the lyrics are like that because she and her brother/friends always used phrases like "O I've always wanted that ever since I was a little girl" as an inside joke amongst themselves. pretty sure none of them are gay/lesbian...she stated they're all in heterosexual relationships. i've seen other people say the same thing about her writing the song and being lesbian...not sure where everyone is getting that.
@GeigerGirl214 - It's not technically the glee version. I am a huge gleek, but the version they did on glee was a remix that had been done awhile back.
Technically if somebody heard this song on one of those shows, and then searched for it on TH-cam, they came here for the music. I like Glee, and that's where I first heard this song. I liked it, so I looked it up. There's nothing wrong with that. It doesn't somehow degrade the quality of the music or of the artist, so what does it matter what led a person to come here, or to any other music video for that matter? Although, people saying "__ BROUGHT ME HERE" in the comments is quite obnoxious.
