I hate freezing and swim in 8 degrees like I have is not what I want but good experience. I also tried 4 degrees with sauna before and after, much better but not real life.
At home I have fall in once at 4 degrees water no problem to get up back on my board, did not feel water before I was back on my board but 10 min home and minus degrees in air, I bought my dry suit after that! It’s such a big difference to paddle after a fall in with dry suit, just change socks, gloves and hat and continue to paddle.🤗

Excellent tips! I’ve been paddle boarding for years but just looking into winter paddling in England. Your advice is sound and has me thinking I’ll go for a dip first to see how I feel about it (it’s also good to just have a cold dip). Better to acclimate myself before going off on the board - it’s easier to walk out of cold water than swim out!

Thanks, really appreciate that you find my tips interesting! 😍Practice always make it safer the day emergency situation comes. Practice might do that that emergency never comes because you did know what to do before or maybe not even go our for a paddle. Always good to know limitations or practice and push the limit higher.🙌🤗

First time I went on rough water I was really cocky and had zero safety gear (not even a leash). After getting thrown on the first rapid, it took over 1min of bouncing off rocks before I could get back on the board. The whole time I was thinking I should be wearing a helmet... Now I have all the safety gear!

Thanks for sharing! We just do flowing water, not white water. If we do, also a helmet will be on! 🤗

In cold water even the world champion cannot swim more than 10 mn. Why? because the body stops to send oxygened blood into the arms and legs, and concentrates the blood circulation to the nobles organs the torso and head. Without oxygen your muscles cannot work and after 10 mn in a very cold water even the best swimmers lose the coordiination of the swimming movements which give lift. it means without a PFD or better a lifejacket any good swimmer will drown . With a flottation device you will survive until hypothermia kills you. Stressful situations and fear can accelerate hypothermia. Better to paddle in winter with a drysuit even if you cannot be as active as in summer. In a drysuit you can get wet from the sweat so better to paddle at a moderate pace. A wet suit long john trousers can also be okay with a drycag for your upper body with thermal and moisture transfer layers under. And like a cooking pot if you do not put the cover the soup will be cold faster. Always cover your head. most of your body heat is lost from an uncovered head, wool is warm even wet ,but my best headgear in the mountains was a high point hat with windstopper from The North Face. So the best is to remount on your board as fast as possible and keep paddling to avoid cold. I was a teacher of survival technics at sea and a sport teacher in a maritim school for 30 years.
