After 4 years of playing the bass, I'd always felt a bit ashamed of not being sure to recognize a clear difference of sound between basses. Your video is an eye opener for me !
+2D's Incarnate There is no instrument better than another. Your logic is erroneous, because each have a role to fill. What you're saying is like saying that a policeman is better than a firefighter, it doesn't make any sense because they have different roles. If guitar sound is your concern, buy pedals, compressors, tuners, distortion and other audio effects gear and all that, but don't say stupid shit.
+John Doe but what he means is bass is more important than guitar. which do you think is more important police or firefighters? police keep laws in function and firefighters stop fires from burning things down. now its the same with bass and guitar. bass keeps the music together while the guitar gives the music some flavor. which is more important is a matter of opinion. just dont be so mean to someone without understanding what they meant
Wow. I've been a bassist for 15 years and I've gotta say that this may be the coolest bass cover video I've seen on TH-cam. First off, you've clearly got the chops. Second, the demo of all the basses back to back is the best testament to the vast tonal differences between basses. Third, flea clearly doesn't need lesser mortals like you and I adding to his licks, but you did it so appropriately and it sounded like the man himself riffing on his own material. Fourth, doze shurrtz, doe...
RHCP have some bangers, but One Hot Minute is my favorite as well. You can't say that shit on the internet though, haha. Add in Melancholy Mechanics, Stretch You Out, Bob, Let's Make Evil, etc. That time period for them was honestly insane. I loved the more metal sound to the album and it had a LOT of energy.
The only problem with a video like this is that it's just so damn funky that you can't watch the whole thing because you gotta to stop and pick up your own bass and start funking around cause it's just so good you have to participate
Man, I used to watch your cover videos religiously. To watch you progress and show off all the basses you managed to get was unbelievable. Stick to the path you've made. It's amazing to watch
I remember watching this video on the day it came out 6.5 years ago, well it definitely inspired me to play the bass and now with almost 4 years of on-off playing, I can play this in sleep if I wanted to. Thank you for your covers, David.
I've watched videos where people compare bassists, running them through different tests and all but… This is by far the best comparison between a whole array of basses I have ever seen. The fact you switch between them often makes their differences very apparent. Nice video! Thanks!
Great video, David! Congratulations on reaching the 300th video! I think a RHCP song is quite a good choice, since that's what we started watching you play; it's a very nice throwback from where you were a young(er) player making covers on TH-cam. Great job, my friend!
Fantastic! Love this song. Not easy. Not that it matters but I liked the sound of the of the cream, natural and black and white pic board bases. Your practice shows.
You and Flea inspired me to start playing bass just over two years ago now, and i want to thank you for all the slapping good times you've given me! keep up the great work man :)
I think I’ve watched this video too many times. I’m trying my best at using this video as a template for my playing. I notice I have a lot of issues with the technique needed for this song, and this is the only video I’ve found on this platform that gets this close to the sound of the actual song itself. I commend you for your chops, good sir.
Great video, jealous of your collection! Do you tend to use the same strings on all your basses? Would be interested to know if the tone differences are purely down to the different instruments.
That was amazing! I don't play but I'm a big RHCP fan, and it was fascinating hearing the different "voices" from so many different bass guitars on the same track. What an awesome idea, thanks so much for this, I couldn't stop my feet and head from bopping along with the groove :-D
thank you for all this years david!! i like so much how you play bass. please more tabs in your videos, if isn't much to ask. when i dismotivated playing bass i saw your videos and then i caught the bass with more forward. greetings from spain. you are awesome
This guy is so talented he can change his clothes and bass without stop playing it.

Time of day as well.

yeah, i camed unintentionally 2 seconds after..
It’s so god dam good
After 4 years of playing the bass, I'd always felt a bit ashamed of not being sure to recognize a clear difference of sound between basses. Your video is an eye opener for me !
When people say music doesn't need bass, direct them here.
+2D's Incarnate no instrument is better than any other. there are only better players
+2D's Incarnate There is no instrument better than another.

The final descending run at the end is mind blowing.

Man, I used to watch your cover videos religiously. To watch you progress and show off all the basses you managed to get was unbelievable. Stick to the path you've made. It's amazing to watch
3 years later...still a magnificent performance with multiple basses!
I remember watching this video on the day it came out 6.5 years ago, well it definitely inspired me to play the bass and now with almost 4 years of on-off playing, I can play this in sleep if I wanted to.
Thank you for your covers, David.
Great idea man! Did you run all of these through the same rig? So cool to hear the different tones of each bass one after another!
Thanks for the comment! And yes; they were all plugged straight into my MOTU Microbook soundcard. Cya!

Great video, David! Congratulations on reaching the 300th video! I think a RHCP song is quite a good choice, since that's what we started watching you play; it's a very nice throwback from where you were a young(er) player making covers on TH-cam. Great job, my friend!

That Squier bass
Yeah I have one and that thing sounds amazing. I'm 13.
I don't understand what your age has to do with anything.
I don't care if it's a RHCP song. You could do a hundred RHCP songs and i'd tune in just to hear your funkiness man :D congrats on 300th video
Just insane, you're a pro! The best cover on the tube! 🔥🔥
I've been watching since then, you're more monster in bass😳
He literally rocked day and night
I love love LOVE the slap bass in the verses. Great sounds! Super funky
That solo was so good I had to watch it twice.
Great video, jealous of your collection! Do you tend to use the same strings on all your basses? Would be interested to know if the tone differences are purely down to the different instruments.
was wondering the same thing.
Best cover ever!
I think the best part about this video is all the basses that he's playing all have their own bad ass sound.
Nice work! Really digging that Sterling sound at 3:51 :D.
were nominating you for the nobel peace prize
More like Nobel bass prize
PoisonTester
Aren't they the same thing? Bass is peace man!
That little bit extra spice in the solo made it so much better!
Pure art
Non c’è niente da aggiungere, tutto al top! Bassi, sound, qualità registrazione e la perfezione che ci metti tu! 🔝 bravo
Nothing like the Sting Ray's presence and power!
You got the bass funk face brother👍👍
Obviously the 300th couldn't be nothing less than a RHCP song! This video is simply awesome! Thanks a lot!!!
I have so much respect for nobody else seems to know how to play on TH-cam
Great idea to switch basses... impressed by both sandbergs.
Je figure parmi celles et ceux qui te suivent depuis 2006! Tes vidéos resteront toujours les meilleures! Vraiment ! Que du plaisir! Encore et toujours

Aaaaand you covered my favorite RHCP song! Great, just great :)
I like how you get to hear the differences between the various basses you own (many of which are popular options on the market today).
Man, you inspire me to pick up my bass again. Thank you!
congratulation David! I've been watching your videos since 2009! Especially RHCP's bass covers!!
Dude, that was friggin' AWESOME!!
That was amazing! I don't play but I'm a big RHCP fan, and it was fascinating hearing the different "voices" from so many different bass guitars on the same track. What an awesome idea, thanks so much for this, I couldn't stop my feet and head from bopping along with the groove :-D
Heavy and a beauty song

This is actually such a useful video for finding out what new bass you wanna buy😂
That's cool! I like how you switched basses so much. You can really here each different tone/voice of each bass.
I loved listening to all of the different sounds. Just the rasp of all of the basses was sweet!
오랜만의 업데이트 인거 같다...
멋지다.... 악기마다의 소리가 고스란히 잘 스며들여 있다...
