    Thank you so much. I am a nursing student. You video really made it easier to understand the concept. Once again, thank you and good luck.

    I have had 150 over 250 bp measured due primarily to bladder back ups. I have been a c3/4 quadriplegic 39 years. I appreciate your videos. I have seen it all and done it all. I too also have a Hetiotrophic Austiofacation in my left femur and hip. I have not lost much range in that hip yet. But as i get older it is getting stiffer. My biggest issue now is after about my 56 birthday my skin isn’t nearly as resilient as when younger. No major pressure sores yet. A few minor ones where I have had to stay in bed for up to two months. At 59 i spent 3 days on a trip being up 10 to twelve hours a day. I tilt back and lay back constantly and every 2 hours lean over and due a complete reset. Got home from trip and no marks. When younger for at least 20 years I was up 12 hours a day. I have always sat on a Jay cushion too. Deep contour now. Seams to be working ok.

      Wow, I honestly didn't know blood pressure could get that high. Wow, 39 years!? I appreciate your feedback. Luckily, I haven't had a pressure sore yet. However, I know the skin gets weaker the older you get. Thank you for watching and commenting!

    Great explanation! Water intake is one of the healthiest ways to avoid uti's, blockage/ irrigation. Lack of water causes spasms and cold chills in my experience. Going strong since '80. In Indiana, 3,800 cc 'in and out' was recommended per 24 hours. I drink twice that amount daily and uti's are rare. Yes, when the A.D. happens we're at risk of shock.
    Great video! I'd forgotten what to call autonomic dysreflexia, Mason! Lol

    I understand you 200%, I was injured at 17yrs old level C5, c4c5c6 fusion, and have now AD several times a week! Early on it was occasionally like a few times a year mostly as a result of a bladder infection. Now it's been 35yrs, and over those years I gotten scar tissue from sitting on lying on my ass and sitting in my bed or wheelchair. As a younger quadriplegic, there was no stopping me. I drove a handicapped van, still do but a lot less, I graduated from University and taught school for 15yrs. I have a super public catheter in my bladder and now as an older guy with all the scars and broken bones through the years, my blood pressure or hypertension is out of control. It's kicked off when my bladder spasms wanting to urinate and I get everything you experienced that month in June (happy birthday) now several times a week! It causes pain in my brain that would drive most insane for 30 minutes to an hour, I take emergency blood pressure meds and ditropan as needed. I see your taking ditropan daily, does it help and does taking it lessen or has it stopped your hypertension caused by your bladder? How often are you experiencing AD, and have you found anything else that works? Yes, im on a scheduled bowl program so its not that its the wear and tear of 35yrs on my body and my bladder, i enjoyed hearing your story and would listen to anything you have learned since, yes the doctors locally in my small town and at the hospital look dump founded when i say "Autonomic dysreflexia" even with my history and as a card-carrying member of the AD community I get no overly concern even as im going into a seziure from prolonged high blood pressure! I'll see my urologist and see if taking Ditropan daily will help? Thanks and as a younger quad I hope that your concerns with AD are taken more serious as doctors have become more informed! I would enjoy hearing from you and hearing your thoughts!☮🌎🌡♿

      Thank you for sharing some of your experience! I now take Myrbetric for bladder spasms instead of Ditropan. Myrbetric works in a different way and I do not experience dry mouth and other side effects like I did with Ditropan. Here is a video about the medications that I take: th-cam.com/video/J26N5L2OGts/w-d-xo.html

    I just got out of the hospital for it...and listen to this (not all doctors understand what it is). The doctor said my super high blood pressure was from my spinal cord injury. I do have some sensation...but C4 is responsible for blood pressure and heart rate and sensation. My hip and leg are shot and I am in a lot of pain...but I almost fell over when the doctor said this (try not to laugh too hard folks, not all medical professionals understand this): he said, 'your high blood pressure is a result of your spinal cord injury, but since your hip and leg are below the spinal cord, they aren't causing AD.' That took a bit to sink in and I thought, 'Wait, what'? I'm sure when he gets a corrected understanding, he will feel a bit of a fool.

    • @morgancalvi6675

      @@masonx54 it kind of is and it made me really confused. I mean this misdiagnosis could seriously mess things up. They just want to treat the blood pressure, but without understanding they need to fix the problem, the blood pressure issue is NOT going to resolve.

    I have an L4 spinal defect. As a result I have to self catheteri ze. I thank God I can manage everything myself..I think anyone with an injury needs to manage their bowel bladder program themselves. If you're in a chair but you can manage all your bathroom needs yourself so much the better.

    • @masonx54
      @masonx54  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah, that's the most difficult part of being injured in my opinion - not being able to walk doesn't bother me but it's frustrating that I have to catheterize and do a bowel program.

      I don't know what you're referring to but most people with spinal cord injuries take medication such as Oxybutynin or Myrbetric to relax the bladder.

    First time I ever experienced this was in the mid 80's when my bladder still had close to a normal capacity and my foley tubing got kinked. My bladder got full and I got an incredible headache and started to sweat like crazy. I was not in my chair at the time and during the transfer my foley got unkinked and my leg bag filled up instantly. The headache and profuse sweating quickly stopped. Now with a 50cc bladder when things get blocked or kinked a bladder spasm kicks in and either forces the crud through the tubing or I pee in my pants thus resolving the issue. Not a very pleasant thing either way.

    • @masonx54
      @masonx54  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yeah, Autonomic Dysreflexia is a rude awakening! Why do you have such a small bladder capacity now? Is it because you’ve been using a Foley catheter for so long?

    • @TheBookjunky
      @TheBookjunky 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I have used a foley since 1985. And when things get blocked my bladder does seem to hold more fluid then - an amazing amount it seems to create some of the puddles that happen. When I irrigate 50cc is the max that can be inserted in my bladder to irrigate or do an instillation.

    I simply don't understand, why, with our current technology, that some type of alarm system has not been developed which could let you know when there is a malfunction with your catheter or let you know when your bladder is full. We have had alarm systems for septic tanks for years, surely somebody could develop one for people.

      I was a condom cath quad for 20yrs, but getting a super pubic 15yrs ago is so much easier and agreeable with my motivated lifestyle! I'm no expert, yes I am an expert in me, having a subpubic father is liberation and every quad should have on; so great feeling your pecker free on the inside of your clothing with nothing on it or in it!!!!👍🏼☮🌎♿
