Robert Carrol is an absolute legend. His work is an invaluable resource for caving in the Adirondacks.

By the way, there are over 300 caves in the Adirondack Park, most of which are anomalies based on the type of rock in our region- solution caves do exist, but most are guarded by clubs and are well kept secrets…. For various reasons-

Its not anyones private land its public. They shouldn't be a secret. If you die in a cave its your fault.

You have to go in with at least 3 people, guns, maybe couple of big dogs because the wolves, coyotes and coydogs are up there. If you go overnight ,build a big big leanto fire-- those wolves are not even afraid of a fire. A while back a NY Conservation guy got eaten up by wolves. NY St keeps this stuff out of the papers because it hurts the tourist industry. There was a guy killing campers up in that area about 20 years ago. It never was in the papers. 31 people have disappeared up there in the last 25 years. The wolves, bears, and mountain lions come right up to my porch at night here. I am 10 miles from Pharaoh ...

I live up in the Adirondacks, lots of talus caves in Panther Gorge…. There are other solution caves, sounds like your in Pharaoh Lake wilderness….
There are plenty of other caves in the Adirondacks- just ask me! I’ve explored most of them- some are old mines, some are bay hibernation places, you can’t go into them after October

Hey thanks for commenting! Mines are my primary interest so I would love to hear about any up in the Adirondacks! So far my explorations have been focused on CT and southern NY. You can email me at sandone.mike@gmail.com.

There is an awesome cave up on ampersand mountain. There is a hidden cave in the main cave. I’m going to crawl up into the secret cave this summer to see if there is any treasure hidden.

There’s an old treasure story about the pharaoh mountain a cave filled with gold from a lost civilization it sounded very fictional but it left me with the question why call it pharaoh mountain

There is quite an assortment of treasure, lost gold/silver mines, and stolen army payrolls tales across the Adirondacks.

New york state's "Kings law" has made it impossible to document any gold or silver discoveries. Any gold or silver found in nys belongs to nys. The law is older then our country and needs to be amended. If it were me that stumbled on something I'd keep it to myself like I assume everyone else would/has.

Extreme human hubris: entering the den of a potential family of animals. What do you think will happen when you encounter a mother with her children who reside in that cave? Imagine a large animal breaking/entering your home in the middle of the night...how would you react? Wouldn't you defend your home in every way possible? Nature deserves more respect from humans...mapping caves is one thing...entering them is trespassing.
