      Agreed… never seen it translated as a transitional move

      Have a play around with it, if you can stay centred the impact of the move will increase quite dramatically. Also using the slip before or after the turn will also add to the effectiveness of the second arm technique

    I (we) were all taught to 'cross' the hands as we moved into the block. Nice interpretation of this and why it's not just "how we do it"

      Thank you for the comment. If you watch the old videos of Ohtsuka I you will see him doing this (in my observations) and if you look at some of the Shorin-Ryu practitioners they generally use the two hands together for all Uke techniques, often through the juji position; having learned the kata from 3 okinawan teachers directly descended from Itosu's school, it makes sense to me he would have incorporated it in to his own version of the kata.
