- To get this star, Mario first has to find the Bob-omb Buddy of Rainbow Ride, which is found at the very top of the coin maze of the third Power Star. A cannon will open at the stern of the flying ship which Mario had to visit for the first Power Star. By shooting himself through a rainbow circle, Mario can get onto a platform with a Chuckya and the sixth Power Star. It's recommended to shoot towards the pole on the platform.

A small tip to make this level experience a bit less irittating. If you fall down near the boat, you can backtrack to the carpet near the spinning wheels. It should show up in a moment.

I'm glad these videos exist, some of the stars in this game can be really cryptic
If you can not get up to the pink bomb by wall-kicking, try getting to the very top of the maze. I got there by getting on the carpet and going to the house with the fireplace.if you go out to the balcony and stand torward the very edge you will disappear and re-appear on top of the maze. You can also get on top of the maze by going on the magic carpet and go toward the house. Jump off the carpet when it flies over the maze. Well whatever way you get there, once you are at the top of the maze, hop backward (I don't remember how I was hopping backward) and the wind will blow Mario right off the ledge and Mario will automatically grab onto the ledge where the pink bomb is. Hope that helps.
You sir, have saved me a ton of additional aggravation. I bet I tried 100 times to wall jump and I couldn't get past 2 kicks. Thanks to you, I now have 120 stars!

TRUER WORDS... have never been said
If you know how to manipulate the camera it's a much richer 3-D experience compared to an automated camera you can't control.
Even the instruction manual and Lakitu explain that you're the cameraman and controlling the camera is a critical part of the game.
@@DanielSong39 Understood, it just becomes alot trickier once your on the moving carpet that twists and turns. The guy playing makes it look easy though lol.

I never really got the same sense in other 3-D games because they didn't have a free camera, I needed to play a first person shooter to get a similar experience
DanielSong39 well I never minded that. It's the fact that there are some parts the camera didn't want to be in the position I wanted it to be causing me to mess up

For all that it did right, Super Mario 64's camera really was subpar, and Rainbow Ride makes it all too clear. Still, gotta give the game overall props, though.
No, the whole point of the game was to manually control the camera so you could get good angles.

Or change mode to fixed camera and hold the R button to follow Mario.
Once you get used to the controls you can pretty much get the shot you want at any time and it enhances the game greatly.
You encounter similar situations in first person shooters too and the key is to move your aiming point.
@@DanielSong39 I know how the camera works and I know the "Mario mode" it has. But it still gets stuck in awkward angles a lot of times

Your videos are great. They are not speed run type videos where everything is done perfectly but you get the job done and it helps to learn how to get the stars. I remember getting an N64 console and queuing outside comet in Torquay in march 1997 when I was 13. Sold all my super Nintendo games and console to spend £350 on an N64 with mario 64. It was amazing to play this game when I got home.

The issue as you get close to the boat is that the camera gets lost behind the platforms and you can’t see where you are going… oh well. Game is 25 plus years old and from a time when they didn’t have the camera work figured out. Still an absolute classic…

Interestingly, while it may seem safest to land on the pole in the end, it makes you more likely to get thrown off, but if you avoid the pole, it's much easier to avoid getting thrown. I'll keep this in mind for future playthroughs

Took me super long to get the 100 coin star (which is always the first one I go for since you can grab it and one more every time ) because I was rarely fast enough to get the blue coins. But I finally did it earlier this morning and the rest are much easier by comparison.

Just jump at the wall and then push jump button when you hit the wall

@@theikeabird Well, you only need 70 stars to beat the game without using glitches, and with some dedication and skill, you can get all the stars needed to beat Bowser's form well before the attic.
On my first playthrough, I didn't even touch Rainbow Road.

Yes there is actually if you do a long jump from the big house in the sky the you get to the ledge just above the pink bomb. Walk slowly off and the wind catches you and you can drift back onto the ledge where the pink bomb is. Hope this helps.

1:20 proof your using an emulator but thank you so much for making these videos I do appreciate them,they help me out a lot regardless if its emulation or not also I have 70 stars and 4 lifes only also on the Switch version it took awhile for me to get used to the Joycon controls for the carpet on this level but I managed to get used to it ^_^
