I have been to New York during summer vacation with my. All in all New York is of course a stunning City. But when you go theyre as a tourist, what travel platforms dont tell you is that New York is far away from perfect. When i got theyre I was shocked. The street of our hotel is not one of the busiest ones and as soon as you get away from the main streets, you get to experiense the bad side of New York to. Every 100 meters or so you see people laying on the Street. Someone of them are begging others just "accept" theyre faith. From day one I felt so unconfortable. I mean it cant be true that this is suppost to be normal. What shocked me even more is that homeless people dont make up the higher amount of people in the city and still nobody even cares. People just ignore them. Everybody is busy theyre. But the homeless people are even present on the biggest streets with probaly thousands of people walking past them every day. And still not much people care. All the people around me had no eye for them and I felt like i am the only one who even cares. I felt like I had to do something. Even small things can make a change. For example we homeless people near our street holding the door of a seven eleven shop. One time we gave one of them a bit. On another day we gave a street artist at time square money.OneAnother time in central Park. At one day we had a especially hearth breaking moment. we had been in an imbiss and they gave us three kiwis for free. Me and my parents werent hungry anymore and we desided to give them to a homeless person together with a spoon and a knife. We ended up giving it to a mother with a child who had a sign that asked for food. I was happy to see how much she liked. On one evening. I literally had a breakdown and I cried because I just wasnt able to hold it back anymore. I really felt alone in this situation because I felt like i am the only one who cares around. What world are we living in where this is suppost to be completely normal. If this is suppost to be the city where dreams come true then i dont wanna know how the situation is in other really big citys around the world. So if you read this comment and you life or go to New York or another big city then be human and do something for people in need. If the politicians dont do something then we have to stand up and help those people. If everybody does small things like this examples we can change a lot.

We got to bring in Trump who was in favor of Rising America, put money on American infrastructure, housing food education security for people of America rather than supporting military based overseas, and Aid to overseas countries. America is calling to bring money for America and Americans rather than thinking for Overseas

Ppl are so unaware of the fact that once you become homeless the new situation keeps you constantly preoccupied on trying to cope and survive each day through to night and overnight it's not like you're sleeping 8 hours in a bed, inside well nourished and go to a steady paying job w bank account w savings and money for hotels and transportation nevermind cellphone service and new clothing whenever it's necessary. Life homeless is a whole other dimension of living and time occupation and comforts. Comfortable for a homeless person is sleeping on anything that isn't solid and eating when you're hungry, showering and clean clothes.

We will never reduce street homelessness without reducing amount of fentanyl drug available on our streets. It's so cheap, and on every street corner possible. Sam Quinones explains very well extremely destructive physical and mental consequences of fentanyl and P2P based meth. Large majority of street homeless will die from fentanyl overdose or drugs related violence in next several years. There is no recreational drugs use any longer with fentanyl around, and all street drugs are laced with fentanyl now days including street marijuana.

One bad situation is all it takes to find yourself on the streets. I know, I found out the hard way. I got pancreatitis and lost my job, I couldnt work so I lost my home too. Me and my girlfriend had to stay in a tent with our dog for a bit, we eventually were able to get into a camper trailer for a while after that. After over a year I got better and we got married. We beat our situation, we have a home together, and a baby on the way. Times get tough, but they dont have to stay that way.

Methadone saved my life. I was homeless, on the streets, surviving the way a female does, in and out of prison, lucky I was not brutally assaulted, yet, by the grace of God.
I have nearly 20 years off of all opiates! I don't even smoke cigarettes. Hard-core for me? Putting an extra shot espresso in my freaking pumpkin spice latte lol
The comments like "but you don't look like you used to be homeless, you don't look like you shot 15 bags of dope a day, you don't look like somebody who was on methadone, you don't look like somebody who was in prison, etc. etc.? Well, I don't know if it's a compliment or not. Part of me gets a little angry sometimes because I feel like they are downgrading and diminishing my experience and trauma. Sometimes I'm happy because I look "white bread normal" and other times I'm just numb. Because I'd rather not remember those times.
Those scary times sleeping in abandon buildings against the door so nobody could come in and steal from me or worse in the middle of the night. Falling asleep at the public library, nodding out in public .
It takes a while, but if you keep clean and sober you will reach the point where drugs are the furthest thing from your mind in every way conceivable. You have no desire, no cravings, nothing in fact I'm at the point that I'm like "who was that girl?"
It's been so long for me that fentanyl didn't even exist. It was just dope. I think I'm lucky though. I believe I'd be dead right now if I was still using when the F started.
Please stay strong. Please love each other and keep going. Please support each other. I relate to so much of what you say and how you feel and your experiences. I live about one hour away. I used to live on the lower Eastside. e7 between B and C
But I hung out mostly in the park
    That was right after 911
I'm so grateful that y'all are in your couples shelter, you were able to get married, and you are able to use social media to spread the message
You don't know how badly I want to hear in two years, five years, 20 years, that y'all are still clean and sober, kicking ass, maybe have some kids, just living a good truly happy life that you so deserve. I see these good things for you in the future. I truly do

I cannot believe how out of touch so many of us are and the lack of compassion in threads like this. Even if people are addicts they don't deserve a safe place to sleep? Live of family willing to help short term thise whi wants to help themselves? I was almost homeless because I hurt my hack in Healthcare and my spouse decided after 25vyears of me providing that I was now a liability. Not only did I struggle with a thyroid disease, back problem and self worth from not working by my own family tried to ouch me into homelessness. Our attitudes are reprehensible. Yes I said we. This is a collective problem. Saying it'd our leaders jobs, problem of elitists, a political problem. We have all list touch with what matters. We deserve whatever comes, this is what we have sewn......May God bless this young couple with sobriety, love, laughs and abundance in all their needs as well , especially for working so hard. We all need a helping hand at one time or another. God bless. Yes all of us unless yall came outta your mommas bellies feeding yourself and knowing how to talk and walk...smh

I bedroom apt where I live in Queens is $2000. I suspect many many more will be homeless soon. Our paycheck can only pay rent. As long as we don't eat and cook and turn on heat or air conditioner, we should be able to survive. She's absolutely right. Ppl who abuse substances usually have past traumas so great that they to escape from it by using. No one ever grow up wishing one day to become a junkie. Gov need to have better support for ppl with less means and addicts.

If you have a social worker it's your job to tell them what you need and want ..they are working for you. If you don't ask for it there will be no help and it takes a lot of paperwork always show up for appointments and be on top bc no one else cares unless you do.

Why is the fact she's an addict not mentioned until 5 mins in and him until 11:30 mins in. The video starts and makes you think they're "normal" and "it could happen to anyone". And they just so happened to BOTH lose their jobs at the same time. When it is 100% on their addictions. Disingenuous

What a beautifull couple ,I know you will pay any help you get forward. I lived with family for 2 years after losing my job then my home then my car . I know you can get sick and lose everything . I probably would have committed suicide or used drugs to die. I was so ashamed and it hurt my confidence . I know the right thing to do is not so simple. We must build housing and do something to create jobs for people . Every human on the planet can do something to help we all have a job to do. Preserve human dignity we are all guilty of making stupid mistakes in our lives. Everyone deserves running water and shelter . Some say and whos gonna pay? Aren't we paying already ? People do desperate things when hungry and cold and tired.

To both of you lovely people I say don't listen to the ignorant trolls that have no idea that there is a rental crisis happening globally. Im from Australia, yes they call this' lucky country' yet we are also facing a lack of affordable rentals. Not everyone in Australia is rich, we too have average wage earners and people on welfare and some that have no money at all and many sleep rough on the streets or in their cars or some are couch surfing.
Keep you head up Courtney, you have a lot going for you. Your partner seems like a nice, supportive man who treats you like a lady. I don't blame you for falling into an addiction after losing your little sisters and your home...that is a huge trauma. I pray you do get help in finding a safe place to live and that you take time to heal cos getting a job is not the first thing you need....what you really need courtney is help and counselling to help you heal through your pain. Once you feel better then you can focus on work or studies. I pray you find that.
Again, block out the trolls that have no clue to what you have been through and continue to go through...they dont deserve your time nor your reaction. Sending lots of good vibes, prayers and much love to you both 💕💕💕 Also please stop using tarot cards they open doors to dark realms. God saved me from them and my life improved when i gave my heart to our Lord Jesus Christ. I pray you do the same Coutney

They were choosing to live on the streets because we have shelters here in new york that take you off the streets the same day. They dont wanna go because it separates the men and women and they gonna make them get clean. I think these people lost everything due to drugs definately because i moved to new york from michigan and i was homeless and i went to shelter for a year and a half and the shelter helped me find a place in a very nice area of brooklyn. Most dont want to do the paperwork to get permanent housing because all the homeless system needs is notarized letter from anybody and it needs to have their number verifying the dates they were homeless thats how you get help. It could be a stranger as long as thet pick up when the department of homeless services call to verifying that they are the person from the letter and verify the dates and then hang up and they gonna help them wirh EVERYTHING.
