@@pjay3586 It may seem a bit trite, but it may be more correct to read it as - "The love of many is A root of all evil." Pride was THE first root of all evil, which then found its way into the heart of mankind, and that first man didn't have money to begin with, but he became loaded with pride.. Pride comes before a fall, and such poverty is a tragic symptom of pride which is a father of greed. It is pride that exalts a man above his fellow man and refuses to bend low to help him when he is unable to pay his rent or whatever. Governments who ignore or refuse to alleviate the suffering of the poor have a lot to answer for. It is a mammoth task but it is fixable, with a good dose of compassion, mercy and tenderness, and political will.
Homelessness is not the biggest of problems here on this video. The city's response is the biggest problem, and that lady from Department of Homeless services was really mean.

What a snob that lady is, but I bet if the tables were turned she would then know what these families go through but she along others just don't care!😑

I believe rents are out of control everywhere! They should have a cap on how much a landlord can charge! I was a landlord and always kept my rent affordable, the property in good shape and 99% of the time if you give people respect they will respect you back! Not one person should be homeless in America!
The cost of renting is ridiculas. In Florida too. Raising children alone is extremly hard. It takes 2 + incomes in a household to just get by. In NY 2+ incomes wouldnt be enough unless one had a high paying job. More are becoming homeless because of extreme weather destroying homes and buisnesses. West coast fires and floods , tornadoes, and hurricanes in midwest and east coast.
I agree! can't believe these landlords. You are responsible for the well-being of people who reside in your apartments. How can they evict a family?? who's never missed paying rent?
Camille Rivera, Deputy Commissioner of NY's Dept of Homeless Svcs., is a tough woman of color Latinx, raised by a single mom, achieving a lot for working folks, but could watch this video and learn something about being careful not to become a crab in a bucket, scrambling to escape at the expense of those less high in the pile of bodies confined by the system of privileging exclusive access to our commonwealth by mostly elite white hetero males
M Tasch-sandor-simon believe me when I tell you, she’s a puppet... I’ve worked in the NYC WELFARE SYSTEM since 1977, grew up in it and government money, like these programs are meant for the sisters, bro in laws, etc of the ones seated in power..I can guarantee you, the rabbit hole goes deeper. When you lose your house, the lawyer given you, notifies his friends and family and gives ALL the particulars for them to bid, because they (the lawyer) can’t... I can go on and on. It’s disgusting, legal and rotten to the bone. Pray this whole demonic system is going to implode in on us. We are doing it to ourselves.
This is a sin to see so many people sleeping out in the streets in the cold weather! It's a disgrace that the richest country in the world can not help them with mental health, their health in general and offer them help to get out of this horrible situation! There are way too many homeless people in the USA!
Every winter when I run home into my heated apartment...I can’t help but feel the wave of guilt and sheer sadness for the homeless. My heart breaks for them
So nasty. Everyone is "moving on" until they and their family can no longer afford to keep up with the rising cost of living, stagnant wages and the scarce shortage of quality jobs.
1st off the city plays a huge role in displacing families. Deblasio and Bloomberg opened the flood gates for these developers to come in and make luxury apartments. There is literally no affordable housing . Gentrification is a huge problem here. There is also a huge number of other factors that play a role.i have been homeless and gone through the shelter system before. It is not easy.
Just Me so true I was homeless with 2 kids in nyc...I moved out of state and God blessed me to be a homeowner...Bloomberg as you stated destroyed the New York City Housing market. After September 11, 2001 nyc went completely downhill. I feel for these people because I was once in their shoes. I’m glad I left my quality of life is so much better and especially for my children.
It's simply the government the people who own now want to cater to the rich who are coming fr every where so I rent my property for 22 000 a month or to the poor people you do the math, its almost like they saying if you are poor get out of new York asap"
That Latin woman that was on this video representing the city, when she said lets move on, made me cringe. That kind of pompous attitude is the same attitude rich landlords have when confronted with facts. That pompous state employee would sell her family to be able to continue making her salary. State employees, politicians and landlords are the read problem in this kind of situation. Why doesn't the state just build or buy buildings to house the homeless. It would be cheaper than paying landlords.
I hope that one day her love ones won't face the same problem and tell them 'we're moving on' that mentality is unethical and unemphatic for such a person who representing the city. She must've forgotten that the world are round and that what comes around will one day comes back around. Such a disgrace...no sympathy whatsoever.
I was also homeless when I stayed in NY during '09. Rent was somewhat cheaper back then, but that all changed, because nowadays paying for rent + the first month's deposit is ridiculously insane to a point where you either have to be rich, or working OVERtime / seven days a week and save up every. single. dollar. which you earn, just to find a decent apartment! My heart goes out to those who got help and survived homelesss just like I did. For those who are currently homeless: Please, DON'T give up or let anyone turn you down- be strong and (YES) you WILL make it. Stay blessed 🙏
As a Latina you’d think sis would try to make a change! Camille Rivera is one of the many reasons why this is happening just because they get crumbs from the pie
As someone with Irish and French catholic ancestry I can concur. Camille is nothing but an "Altar Boy" getting taking heat from the priest! She only see's green and has no mean to help others just the like rich guy from earlier and tries to skirt around the question when confronted. Greed is the big problem in the city and it has been spreading into Upstate. Agencies like Access-VR, Office of Mental Health (OMH), Office For the People With Developmental Disabilities(OPWDD), Northeast Career Planning and many others are just in it all for the cash and not the people they are serving. I have been working on plans to start a "shake down" to hold the mofos accountable! They owe it to us!
@I8thumper That's technically what she said. She is stating she doesn't practice what she preaches and is a dishonor to her crest whom all have worked very hard to be able to start and live happy and healthy lives in peace. Means she's betrayed and disgraced her family and her "flock" to benefit only herself. Get it now? She just expressed this in a metaphor. @@yvonnespearing Nothing is wrong, well there is but not what we think. I've said before that the people you served those sandwiches to need more than food. They need information and inspiration. The place you served those sandwiches at could also hand out packets of information about orgs that are willing to help. If we stop handing out money and food and just gave them information they would eventually use that. It's all they would have. Right now I'm involved with the Doe Fund, an organization that helps homeless men on two fronts: homelessness, and lack of skills. You have to pay rent there so they put you to work at 15 dollars an hour and drug treatment is a requirement. They also help a man acquire some skills and certifications along with job placement assistance to help you get and maintain employment and housing. How many more people know of these types of organizations? Let's put it out there and stop with the coddling and begging these no good politicians to do the jobs our taxes pay for them to do and do it ourselves. Give a man a fish and he will eat for a day, teach him to fish and he'll eat for a lifetime.
@wagner1va you gotta be a bot. But if you're not then know this, homelessness, joblessness, and drug addiction don't care bout what color you are. Racism knows no boundaries and it could happen to you and how would you feel if someone called you filthy or whatever?
It is about the money. Real estate in New York costs so much because the housing supply can't possibly keep up with the population. This makes it very expensive. There are cities that have artificial housing problems like San Francisco where people protest and try to stop apartments from being built but also complain about the cost of living. If you don't have the money to live at the epicenter of the world economy, then you should probably find somewhere else to live. I don't live there because it's way too expensive.
You are not alone. I was nodding through 90% of this documentary. I am constantly about to be thrown out of my apartment in Colorado due to rent increases. HEY HEY!! HO HO!! CAPITALISM HAS GOT TO GO!!!!!!!!!
They raise because they can. The market pushes the rent to go up. For a landlord, it makes to them to raise the price along the market because it will be filled anyway. Think about it, if you can earn $2,000/month by kicking out some strangers who is paying $1,500/month, are you going to do it? For most people, the answer would be "yes". That's exactly why we cannot let the Market decide everything. That's why the government should step in and provide social welfare for those people with lower income. That's why that "small government" concept is a bullshit made up by those wealthy people. Same thing goes to the health system in the U.S. What a shame.
@Lisa Marie.....its time to come together....like families buying passports one at a time. Instead of buying toys for the holidays save up to began buying tickets. Its costly but coming together will help a lot. Small businesses can survive like making chocolate, cookies, cakes, grilling meat. We have to pray, for ways and He will provide. Don't give up. It can happen, stay focus to make a dream come true.
Wow. This hits harder when you're actually homeless during Corona. Even though i do work and have an education, tragedy can happen at anytime. Pray for me. Its scary in Memphis and sleeping out of my car as a student doesnt make it better. I pray for anyone going thru this situation. Its always someone worse off. At least i have a vehicle to sleep in.

Exactly the same here in London UK and in other UK cities .... Affordable housing is a thing of the past, many many many blocks of flats are being built but none affordable for lower income workers or the homeless, all being sold to foreign investors, the uber rich/rich ... the rich Chinese and Hong Kong rich property investors + rich investors from other countries, are very interested in these investments ... Social Cleansing is big money here in London if your rich whereby if your poor you don't even get a look in .... 6 London councils have sold off their very big council estates to developers after emptying these estates of tenants. People who bought their flat/house on such estates are only offered below the market value for their property, they're not allowed to stay on and live in their once previous home. The government/councils call it "regeneration" of dilapidated estates but it's been the councils who have deliberately allowed the estates to get run down, the developer then gets an estate at a knockdown price only to tart it up and sell on to rich property developers who then sell on to foreign investors who invariably leave these flats/homes purposely empty ...... SOCIAL CLEANSING ........

@@teresawicks-kq3bq I don't care what Jesus said 2000 years ago. Why didn't he end homelessness? And they're unemployed or underemployed? Where's the personal accountability with some of them? It seems many are just waiting for the government (AKA us taxpayers) to build them housing and subsidize their lifestyles.
This documentary is all too real to me.When I taught at a middle school in East Harlem our student demographic were mostly homeless which was shocking. But now it makes sense.I pray to God for these people that they are able to find stable housing in good conditions.
I REALLY feel for these folks. I was homeless for a while. However, it was a very good experience for me. I was a college student, at the time (dorms had been closed for the year). I was 21 at the time. I couldn't IMAGINE being homeless now, with a wife and 4 kids. I wish I could help more. We've let homeless stay with us. However, there's inevitably complications.
It's far more complicated than that. In Australia/UK you can get a subsidized house for your entire life, there is a waiting list and you must qualify. The waiting list in some cities like Adelaide has become 20 years. Not for the lack of housing but because subsidised housing has made poverty very attractive and success foolish. If I say to everyone this minute if you qualify (are homeless) you get a house I'm sure many people will make sure they qualify. What's needed is in fact the opposite, divert money from housing and the poor to the wealthy in the form of grants and tax breaks for venture capital investments, this will create jobs and economic growth which will then flow down. Might sound cruel and not compassionate by the richest 1% feed 100%.
@Badaboom 88 in the USA anything under $2k per month is working poor. it's not like Europe, hence why they are always hustling. It's never enough. Not like in Europe where $1500 can give you a living

The root to all evil isn’t necessarily money.. it’s human greed
DreamWeaver the saying is “the LOVE of money is the root of all evil” which means greed , you’re right
@@pjay3586
It may seem a bit trite, but it may be more correct to read it as - "The love of many is A root of all evil."
Pride was THE first root of all evil, which then found its way into the heart of mankind, and that first man didn't have money to begin with, but he became loaded with pride..
DreamWeaver yes Democrats greed!!!!!

That Latin woman that was on this video representing the city, when she said lets move on, made me cringe. That kind of pompous attitude is the same attitude rich landlords have when confronted with facts. That pompous state employee would sell her family to be able to continue making her salary. State employees, politicians and landlords are the read problem in this kind of situation. Why doesn't the state just build or buy buildings to house the homeless. It would be cheaper than paying landlords.
I hope that one day her love ones won't face the same problem and tell them 'we're moving on' that mentality is unethical and unemphatic for such a person who representing the city. I was also homeless when I stayed in NY during '09. My heart goes out to those who got help and survived homelesss just like I did. For those who are currently homeless: Please, DON'T give up or let anyone turn you down- be strong and (YES) you WILL make it. Stay blessed 🙏

Rick bronxbull Cavite Philippines . exactly.

Mike David Good question.
They are intentionally trying to move a specific class of ppl out due to gentrification and greed
Landlord raise rent because they have to pay property taxes in order to do so tenant rent go up
Greedy
They raise because they can. The market pushes the rent to go up. For a landlord, it makes to them to raise the price along the market because it will be filled anyway. Think about it, if you can earn $2,000/month by kicking out some strangers who is paying $1,500/month, are you going to do it? For most people, the answer would be "yes". That's exactly why we cannot let the Market decide everything. That's why the government should step in and provide social welfare for those people with lower income. That's why that "small government" concept is a bullshit made up by those wealthy people. Same thing goes to the health system in the U.S. What a shame.

Dear Lady who works for the city; I hope you never become Homeless.

Well, she was deputising. She was the person in charge of Homelessness Services while her boss was not present for whatever the reason. Sher is not just a normal civil servant.
"We're moving on. WERE MOVING ON."...Um, why agree to the interview if you don't want to answer questions??? She was so rude.
The old case of "Can't handle The Truth"
I"m a Democrat and can"t stand Democrats like her in our party. They are the very reason why we are being misrepresented. She needs to at least comb her hair. Not professional about her at all.I saw 'RED' looking at her.
Yes...low-class to act that way with a reporter asking question. The “moving on lady” just showed us all that she was caught in her lies by her reaction.
She is a bytch who doesn't care..
All these empty buildings AND THE GOV'T CAN'T RENOVATE THEM FOR THE THE HOMELESS. ITS JUST DISGRACEFUL : (
teresa wicks I nominate you mayor..
All these empty buildings all over America could be turned into housing. More rent that stays stable so people are not evicted. Programs that keep the rents stable so that people will not be homeless. More rooming houses. Mental health services and housing for veterans. There are solutions. Families help your family and friends. Save and try to buy a home with a group of family or friends.
Why should these poor people get free or subsidized housing (subsidized by the rest of us) while the rest of us have to pay market value?
@@kevin15776 Jesus said the poor will always be with us!! And you and I are expected to help the poor. Be grateful it's not you and just do ur part!!
@@teresawicks-kq3bq I don't care what Jesus said 2000 years ago. Why didn't he end homelessness? I pay enough in taxes and oftentimes (but not always), people are their own worst enemy and put themselves in these situations. That one woman has 4 kids?? Another has 3?? And they're unemployed or underemployed? Where's the personal accountability with some of them? It seems many are just waiting for the government (AKA us taxpayers) to build them housing and subsidize their lifestyles.
Sadly but sometimes we don’t realize how very Blessed and Grateful we should be until one has lost what all they had
WE NEED MORE AFFORDABLE HOUSING!
There's way.. and a plan..
If more people would pick up the phone and call immigration it make better rent would go down and property taxes would stop going up
Acreage Funeral that will only do so much
9 dollars woman gets paid in NYC. Absolute disgrace
$9 an hour is a homeless salary anywhere in the US, especially in New York. How sad the US has come to this.
@Badaboom 88 in the USA anything under $2k per month is working poor. it's not like Europe, hence why they are always hustling. It's never enough. Not like in Europe where $1500 can give you a living
@Badaboom 88 If rent is $2,500 for a studio apartment and you only make $1,440 before taxes, how exactly can you have a place to live?
The minimum wage for a under 18 year old worker in denmark is around 10 dollars your country is so messed up
I live in New York City and the minimum wage is $15. She might be talking about when she was employed. Unless it’s off the books. I could be wrong though
Be thankful every day you had place to live. That why if you bless don’t be Ungrateful too some people. Praying for them.
I feel really sorry for the mom with 3 kids, things will get better soon. I hope she is in a better place now
“The comfort of the rich depends upon an abundant supply of the poor” Voltaire._
Wow so true
Voltaire also said: "To find out who rules over you, simply find out who you are not allowed to criticize."
"We who have posed as the saviors of the world; we who have even boasted of having given it "the" Savior; we are today nothing else but the world's seducers, its destroyers, its incendiaries, its executioners...I look at this world, and I shudder at its ghastliness; I shudder all the more as I know the spiritual authors of all this ghastliness. . ." ~~Oscar Levy, 1920
@Konstantinos Palaiologos Abundant? No, it's not abundant.
Yes. Yes. Yes.
" If yours does not get spoiled, my own cannot be rosy. " That's the underline principle of capitalism. Although the hardcore capitalist will want us to believe otherwise.

Welcome to America: where the rich get richer and the poor are ignored.
and the poor all too often screw up. Drop out of school. Smoke, drug, drink, gamble. Get STDs. Have kids with no husband. Have too many kids.
@@taraterm3 are you saying that all of those issues you listed are exclusive only to the poor???🤨
@@taraterm3 I have seen more decent, honest, hardworking poor than those you described. Neoliberalism will widen the gap between the rich and poor. And it advocates a market that can destroy everything a family worked for all their life. Look at the sub prime crisis and you have to agree.
@@taraterm3 - what about the working poor? Those who dont have alot of kids? Rents and affordable housing is disappearing. And many people graduate college and still find it hard to keep up. Dont be so judgmental. I know doctors on drugs. As are alot of so called professionals. Some married couples are doing the same. . Come out of your bubble. Regardless, these are people not objects.
@@taraterm3 They screw up because they lack the resources and education to get out of such cycle. When you grow up all your life knowing nothing but poverty then you'll end up like that throughout your life. Most don't even know what a mortgage is.
Somebody said that America is not a country it's a business and after watching this I cannot agree more
There ripping the poor off! and the working poor.
That's nothing new. Been going on for centuries
Bernie 2020, democracy can work if all of the public gets involved, then the real majority can make decisions for what is best for all not just for some.
WHY DO THESE GIRLS ALLOW THEMSELVES TO PREGNANT 2-3 TIMES,KNOWING THAT THEY WERE STRUGGLING WITH THE FIRST CHILD,I DON'T GET IT......
@Asha X because it's not fair to the kids.
15 years ago I had 1 kid, working making $9 an hour, but needed assistance with housing. I became a seasonal employee for the IRS making $12.63 an hour and was told by the housing authority I made too much to continue in the program. I said but it's seasonal and I can be laid off at anytime. The case worker told me I could have another baby or volunteer for furlough and only work 6mos a year to remain on the program. I declined but a coworker fell into the trap. 13yrs later she is still seasonal with 3 kids living with her mother. I worked my way up into management, bought a house and my one child is now saving to buy himself a condo at 19yrs old. Teach homeownership and equity to your children.

I could not agree more she got that stupid im in charge attitude and she is suppose to be working for the people of new York goes to show who she works for.
Let’s see how she handles this pandemic if they do budget cuts, and her job is removed.
Hopefully she’ll “just move on”.
New yorkers known to be tough attitudes
Homeless at 16 and she goes on having 3 kids????
lominefe I said the same thing. That is a big problem.
She was looking for love, ended up with 3 kids alone 😥
Yeah, that's what I thought.
and she doesn't want the same for them, which is understandable, but where is the logic in this??
It’s ridiculous to attack citizens.
This is why you dont Judge people who are Homeless because you don't know what they have been through and understand how good you have it. I myself try and Help as much as a i can. I know what being homeless feels like and living in Motels. Not fun. Always help not Judge. Goodluck to all The Homeless in the world. Nobody deserves to live like that
I agree....please help
Home ownership is essential in life. My life improved immeasurably when I bought my modest studio. Getting married is probably essential too as household income is doubled.
I was in the homeless system through PATH. Thank God my children’s father stayed with me through it all... it is extremely frustrating to go through this... I’ve experienced this first hand.. now we are in NEW JERSEY, with a two bedroom for $1400 and I’m extremely grateful for going through what I went through
Still $1400 per month is a lot. That's money you could be investing for something else
@@greer8288really? If you think that's expensive wherever you live you're lucky!
It is seriously troubling that the deputy from the Department of Homeless Services refused to discussed the "formula" regarding where all that money was going
It is true that New York is Gentrifying and it is so expensive and crowded to live there. I have been there twice, work related and would hate to live there and don't ever want to visit again. I would suggest the poor move somewhere else, but where? It's no good anywhere. The gulf between the rich and the poor gets wider every year and is gobbling up the middle class on the poor side.
Yes
Was just saying the same thing to a friend
Jews have a lot of children. I believe it's a must. Still, God provided for all their children, who most become professional businessmen. But because we're living I believe in the last days, I wouldn't advise
a single parent to have too many children.
Because there aren't many high paying jobs.
Well I’ve been there I went through it 25 years ago then I came back to New York and had to go through it again he’s exactly right if you don’t get approved you have to start all over again this is why I gave up and moved to Florida and I am blessed to be living comfortably you can never win my opinion🤷🏽♀️🤷🏽♀️
This is happening all over the U.S. the rent has skyrocketed in Atlanta
cause too many people moving there
London to
nashville too
For years I donated my music income to organisations for the help of the homeless. I hope it made a difference, even small, for somebody in need. Unfortunately nowadays I cannot afford it anymore
I have stayed in the shelter system in Canada when i was homeless on 3 occasions , it gives a perspective on what is like to have your own place to live and you are grateful to have your own place to live
"They say this is a big rich town and I just come from the poorest part."
I swear seeing these children of these families have to endure such circumstances is overwhelmingly heartbreaking smh! I hope that NY starts getting it together and soon. God bless the homeless of NY and God bless America !

I was homeless before. Thank God for blessing me with a home
I was homeless because of gentrification. I stayed with a friend and I finally got into low income housing. Im so grateful to God to have a home. I wish you the best.
