Love it! I completely adore Utopia Limited. The King is such a great character. The costumes for Scaphio and Phantis look as if they were somewhat modeled on the original production. But I thought the King's initial costume was clever, having him already trying to emulate England with his top hat and tails. I also liked the nod to King and I with the 'your head can't be lower than mine' bit. Capt Fitz gargling before 'A Tenor Sings Above' was inspired! Wish I could see this live.
Sounds and looks magnificent. I'm buying the DVD! Utopia Ltd is one of my favourites and of all the G & S operettas I think it's the one we can most identify with today. It's such an excellent score as well.
It is really to bad that the D'Oyly Carte shelved this after the original premier. In numerous books I have read Rupert D'Oyly Carte wanted to revive it. But the costs were way to high. It had to wait till 1975 of the centennial year of G & S at the Savoy for it to happen. And indeed it was one hell of a production. This production in Buxton looks very exceptional.....

So much great music in this show, it should be much better known.
This production looks great fun. The minstrelsy song is a hoot.
