For snakes and smaller critters, stores like Home Depot sells DIY custom window screen kits. I had to purchase a hacksaw and screen roller in addition to the kit but the total cost was under $40, it's got an aluminum screen and it sits flush within the rim of the tank. Super useful for converting random tanks into terrariums!

This is great! I have 55 gallon terrarium that is abnormal dimensions, so finding a lid for it has been difficult.

Glad to see parents still doing DIT projects with their kids. Everyone seems to be on the phone these days. Cant wait until my son is old enough to help me with my projects!

Simple, easy tutorial. Hell, I thought it would be more complicated to make the screen cover.
    Awesome coloration on the beardie.

Thanks for the tip! I have been searching for a screen of a particular size and have been unable to locate it. I actually have everything except the wood in my basement. I'm headed to home depot this weekend!

Thank you so much, this video helped me make a perfect lid for my bearded dragon. Which works and fits better than store bought ones. Not to mention my tank is an off size that I couldn't find a lid that fit. 👍

    Great video!
The only thing is you should take out the heat rock in your tank.
Beardies can’t regulate belly heat so it burns them. UVB light for basking is perfect for them cause they regulate heat from the top of their bodies(:

So how much did it cost you to make this. I'm gonna need a screen top. However Petco sell them for 20gal tanks. They're around 15 dollars

Will this be able to hold a heat lamp/uv light with no problems or will the heat and weight be an issue?

    • @jonmcguire5692
      @jonmcguire5692 5 ปีที่แล้ว

As long as you use a strong enough screen it will hold up no problem. I used tiny square chicken wire. Perfect for holding my three lights basking, UV light, and night time heat bulb!

+herpkerpderp yes it would because if you feel as if it wouldnt then you can take extra precations and put latches on the side of the wood :)

how long did it last with the weight of the lights on it?

    • @CreativeCuse

Lights posed no issues at all. The mesh is pretty strong.

  • @sylviaisgod6947

Use tin snips instead of diagonal cutters, much faster. Also you should wear gloves.

Not at all. I never had any issues with it.
