Once I realized you have many videos documenting your journey, I decided to start watching your playlist from oldest to newest. This is great content and I appreciate it! Ten years ago it was completely unfeasible and wasteful to cook this way on solar vs gas. Fast forward to today and it's really amazing how much the technology has improved. It's flipped 180 degrees and now wasteful to cook on gas vs solar.
Yeah Joe, 30 years ago when I first got on solar we shied away from anything with a heating element like this. Times have changed...must be getting older! Aloha!🤙
I love induction cooking now. The first time I tried it I used an inexpensive unit that didn’t have enough power/temperature settings. It seemed like it was always too hot or not hot enough. I upgraded to a Duxtop dual element unit and it is amazing. I have found settings that work well for me. It sits on top of my old electric stove and I only use induction now. I like the integrated timer for things like pasta or rice, but use a separate timer for other things where I don’t want the element to turn off where I have to flip meat or add ingredients. Enjoy your induction experience, I hope it serves you well.
Im enjoying it so much. Lots to learn about it since its new for me. But, It's delivering nice meals already compliments from the sun! Amazing! Aloha 🤙
i have been using an induction plate similar to this that i picked up in a second hand shop for 10$. I have been using it this summer as it does not hear up the cook area as much as gas will. I like that yours can set the power use, i am going to upgrade and give my old one to a friend. Thanks for sharing this.
Just wanted to say thank you for this video. I now have the same induction cooker running off solar and my PowMr 3K hybrid inverter and Redodo batteries. I have used it four times so far and it amazes me every time. It is fast and easy to use.
love when you say your cookn of the sun,, i just orderd one of these,, but i say in the summer,, i cool my house off the sun,,it took me a fue years to do that ,but now like you i wanna add cooking from the sun to,,,,, great vid keep up the great work
You know I'm loving this. Eliminating propane on my way to complete energy independence. Been a long road, but I got my eye on the prize now. Probably get it all dialed in just about when I can't even lift a propane tank! aloha 🤙
Induction cooking takes a little getting used to, I’m still used to natural gas, but like you trying to “change”. I guess you CAN teach a old dog new tricks 😉
This is great. My plan for my small sailboat was to be able to cook with an induction cooktop in the cabin. It can be a pretty high power draw, but for short duration I think that will be just fine. If I use propane at all it would likely be for a small grill on the back of the boat, and the propane stays outside and not in the cabin which I'd like to avoid for safety.
Im pretty excited about this addition to my off grid lifestyle. Been lugging propane tanks around near 30 years, and the thought of doing that any longer doesn't really appeal to me . Keep chipping away on that...aloha 🤙
@@ProjectsinParadise808 If you ever get a chance I'd love to see some more numbers, like total Watt or Amp / hours pulled from the battery from cooking with the induction eye or something like that. And/or maybe at different temp settings to see how that changes overall power draw. Possibly even with solar input disabled to see the pure numbers from just the induction cooking. I think that would be very interesting to see.
Induction cooker works perfectly fine whit cheeper modified sinewave inverter, becouse the electronic in the cooker doesn't need clean sinwave. Aloha🙋♀️
I have a 2000 watt induction cooktop and boil 6 gallons of water with ease, it however it's 220v, I like 220v as it's power is more efficient. Also you can buy cooktop adapter plate so you can use non metallic cookware . I do enjoy your videos and leanr a lot about solar power.
It's not the vault that make it more efficient. I guess you mean AC which is less efficient when using off-grid DC as it requires to convert to AC (and probably then back to DC again). I'm thinking to build my new home only with DC low power and hopefully find devices that I could work with DC directly.
Just to mention that they use magnets rather than a heating element ,which is why the pan has to be magnetic. You can also buy an adapter plate, which is just a stainless steel disc, to let you use non magnetic cookware.
@@ProjectsinParadise808 you’re really good at this! Your channel has grown so much! I knew it would, when I first started watching your channel!🤙🏻friend.
I used that Nuwave cooktop till I wore out the finish on the pan that came with it. Yes it's real nice to cook on for being electric. Need to find a new pan with a lid this time👍
that great. I got the 2 burner one saved in my cart now. just me and Martha most of the time. been using microwave 800W and I got convection oven 1500 watt I use but on different inverters. convection has a fan to blow the heat around for even cooking. I do have the NEWWAVE inferred cooker and that works well . My propane stove/oven is convection oven and that super food cokes even. I do have a Hampton bay air fryer from Walmart we love it. no oil at all ! all off grid. my old hot plate is 1500 watt and would take longer to do same breakfast. induction much more efficient. I can say the George Forerun grill is great. I got 3 different ones. no need to flip burgers with them. that are fast and the fat dripped out. love the newer non stick pans. They great and clean easy. and most are induction ready . says right on them. hot water on solar ,washing dishes no propane . may be winter but my dump load resistor for wind is now in hot water tank . today off grid is fun !
This was my first electrical appliance in 30 year's, and I'm loving it. Way different from day's gone by. Was always propane, kerosene, gasoline for heavy loads. So great to have seen the progress. Off grid living made much easier now. I want to try out all those appliances you're running next! Nice. Aloha 🤙
I have one of these. I power ot with my ecoflow delta. It's great for boiling a pot of water for some pasta. Max setting to get it going then down to high for 8 minutes.
We found is that a 100ah Lipo4 and a 1000W inverter is enough to cook just about anything on induction but requires a 100ah bms on the battery. Batteries with 50ah bms may trigger if running at full power. One other tip: to heat water an electric kettle are a great option. We have videos of both on our channel if you are interested.
I wonder if a heater can be made from this for camping .like a fan blowing on the pan to circulate the heat. 375 at 600 watts is pretty hot for the power it produces. compared To the buddy heater which needs combustible propane and flame and a portable electric heater which takes over 1000 watts for something decent. propane heater can be dangerous in your tent with carbon monoxide even if it is vented
Yummy 😋 There's a theory (not know if that's true), that when the lithium battery would drop down to a low state of charge, then it can't deliver the same high current. And I don't mean a dangerous low level. Example: induction cook top 1800W, used at mid level power, let's say 1000W inverter 1500W, so it can handle the 1000W setting lithium battery 200Ah at 100% state of charge, is roughly 2400Wh, At 100% you can push the full 200A, but recommended 50%, so 100A. And that's 1200W, enough for the mid level power setting of the induction cook top. With a state of charge of 25%, there's 50Ah left in the battery, that's 600Wh. Somehow the battery can't deliver the required 1000W for the cook top anymore for 6 minutes. It will try, but after a few minutes the breaker will pop. I wonder if this is true?
Figure out the battery voltage at the low state of charge and how many amps are needed for your needed 1000w. Don't forget to add inverter inefficiency. If amps is over the breaker limit then the breaker will pop soon. If over 80% of breaker rating it will pop after some minutes.
I'm so new to this I don't know if that's true or not. Sounds like something to experiment with so I will know in case I have to consider when batteries are running below half a tank if I can complete the meal. You know I'm going to try this at some point, because I want to know. Great question, and considerations for us..mahalo for that! 🤙
Don't confuse battery CAPACITY with power OUTPUT. The battery voltage will drop a bit but the inverter will manage that. IOW, the power output doesn't change until your SOC is about flat.
@@ProjectsinParadise808 Hi, if the Wattage is constant for whatever setting you use than how the temperature is adjusted? From 100F to 375 F what is causing the temperature change? I'm very curious. If the current would be constant it would be good for inverter and batteries, instead of switching on and off all the time. Please let me know if you noticed switching on and off on low settings (200F)
Well I just went and tried this. On lowest setting on startup still pulled approx. 650 watts to get to 100 degrees F. Then I tried a higher setting 375 degrees, and same about 650 watts. But when I toggled back to lowest setting it sipped only 5 watts , I assume because temperature was initially over the 100 degrees. Did you log what was your total watts used and peak at one time for this meal. Interested if you could run a dorm frig off the battery and inverter at same time. Thank you
This morning my stove/oven made a large BANG noise like a hammer hitting the stove. The burners stopped working. I had a coleman table top propane to use in an emergency situation but also saw yesterday that this Nuwave is only 53 dollars /Amazon. My 614 watt LiFePo4 set up shud power it>>>right?
Well.... the jackery 500 and the ffpower 500-614 watt small power banks wont power this but WOW!! plug into wall & this Nuwave on the 600 watt/high settings is so fast and efficient that it makes no sense to use my traditional stovetop with coils.
I got a like new induction cooker at goodwill for $6. I wasted no time grabbing it. The thing I like the most is setting the temp just below boiling and cooking pasta. No boilovers.
A regular 900w cooktop would have done it in half the time. I run a stainless steel 2 burner (900w each) on a daily basis and I don't have to buy special pans for it. Just my 2 cents.
