Thankfully, I meant Jim Kelly at a show in Kentucky a couple of years before he passed away. I drew the show poster and featured him in it prominently. When i spoke to him i gave him a copy of the show poster. He was so grateful he gave me a print of him on a black and white Marvel Comic mag that he was featured on the cover of.... he signed it 'Black Belt Jones'. Jim was one of my heroes growing up... and that signature is one of my prized possessions.
I loved watching Jim Kelly as a kid I thought he was super cool and kick ass and the man was a real martial artist. Rest in peace brother you were amazing.
I liked Jim Kelly's movies. He was one of the forerunners of all the action stars like Will Smith,Dwayne the Rock Johnson, and Michael Jai White.I wish Mr.Kelly had recieved more leading roles in action movies in his heyday. And it's funny how his passing didn't get more attention by the major news networks.Anyway...you will be missed.
Cool, Fast Paced, Hilarious, Kick Ass Intro to One of My Fave 1974 Movies! Classic Drive-In and Cinema Theater Fave. Old School 70's Diehard 4 LIFE. RIP, Jim Kelly. Rock On, Peace and OORAH!!
When I was a kid, my brother and I rented this movie, plus Brother From Another Planet. This scene has been randomly playing in my mind since 1998, and today, you helped me find the name of the movie. Thanks!
Ebert actually gave this movie thumbs up. He also stated that this was the feel good movie of 1974. Even though I had to see this movie as a rerun in the drive-in, if it wasn't for this movie most kids from the ghettos at the time may have never taken an interest in martial arts.
please educate yourself. this is a cult classic, it was around long before street fighter was developed. and it will be around long after that game will be forgotten. enjoy the funkyness.
00:42 good punch. 1:43 pretty fast. A very original opening, like a comic book, and cool tunes. Jim Kelly: part of the main inspiration for the Marvel character POWER MAN (alias Luke Cage).
jamesvzfighter Yeah, especially if you grew up in a time when the black guy always got killed off before the end of the film 💪 is Black Panther as bad ass as this? Probably not 😂
Oyeeeeee Oooohhhhhhhhhhh! 2:07 direct to the Bertie Bassett and Cuthberts, few if any men could take a strike directly at the Todger area. 1:45 pretty fast back fist followed by flatulence bursting stomach punch. He had cool techniques!
At first I thought the three older dudes in suits were gonna pull out their guns, but instead they just enjoyed the show, like, “this black guy’s fuckin’ awesome!”
Happy Birthday to the Legend of Extrodinary Impact in Asian Martial Arts Production, Hero of Invencible Dragon Art, and Champion of Inferno Battelfield. At least I know Jim went peacefully. When he died, he didn't even notice. He was too busy looking good.
RIP, Jim Kelly!
And it didn't come right out of a comic book, either.
This is Kenny's favorite comment today

As a kid, I was always bummed that Enter the Dragon killed off Williams instead of Roper. Dude had awesome screen presence!
Williams was almost as cool as Bruce in ETD. I'll never forget the impact that film had on me back then.
