This is what I grew up with in W.Va. Don Nehlen, head coach. Jack Fleming on the call and Woody O'Hara on color. Many a Saturday tuned into the radio or TV when they were on TV. What memories.

Don Nehlan came to West Virginia as an outsider and fell in love with West Virginia University and the state of West Virginia. He is brought " winning with class" to our university. He was in the announcers booth today and his mind was sharp as a tack...he practically remembered every play of his coaching career

I almost want to cry when I see old clips from the 90s, those were the best days. Reminds me of my childhood. Loved those uniforms.

Very well earned, very well deserved honor today. One of the classiest, nicest, humble and real human beings I've ever met. The university and every member of Mountaineer Nation owes "Dandy Don" so much!

I also think Neal Brown is a classy individual and although he has had a rough start, I think he's turning the corner at WVU. He has had a lot of challenges, including taking over a program which the previous staff had let run down hill, quite simply Holgerson wasnt a West Virginian and never bought in. He couldn't keep the program going.
Ill never forget Browns 1st game, it was against James Madison. James Madison was the better football team that day, they physically whipped WVU on both sides of the ball. Fortunately, we had a few WRs that they couldn't run with and we made enough big plays to barely squek out a win. I thought to myself, he will NEVER win 3 games, somehow, I think he snuck out 5. IMO, getting 5 wins that season was AMAZING.
It hasn't been easy for Brown. He hasn't been able to find " the man" at QB. Nehlan started out with Oliver Luck and Jeff Hostlettler. Neal hasn't always "gone for the win" and its come back to bite him a few times, I remember being so mad at him after the Pitt game last year, I could have choked him. But, Neal has learned from his mistakes, he's had chances to "go for wins this year, and he's gone for it and its made a difference. I believe that he's a much better coach this year than he was last year, quite simply because his job was on the line and he "coached to win" instead of "coaching not to lose".
Another thing I like about Neil, hes recruiting well. He's bringing talent to WV. (He still hasn't brought us that "big time" QB) Look at the young talent he's brought to WVU. Theres speed all over the secondary. Burks # 2 has had an all confrence, if not all -American season. Kopeka has been an outstanding LB. (And the kid we lost with a broken arm, im sorry, I forget his name, was playing extremely well. The D-line is 2 deep. Our offensive line is among the best in the nation. We have 2 solid QBs. Our running back position is 4 deep. We have a stud 6'7 T.E. Gallagher is going to be an unreal player in the future. Our whole offensive line which is outstanding , returns Neal brown has done an OUTSTANDING job bringing ng in talent to WVU. And he's done this in an era where teams are scouting us and stealing our players every year. Last year we probably had more players poached than we had in any previous year. I know that ex mountaineers were the top WRs @ Houston and Maryland. A couple years ago Akeem Mesidor said he was a "mountaineer for life" a month later he was starting for Miami. Georgias, starting safety, the nations leader in interceptions, was poached from the mountaineers. We arent just losing players, we are losing our best players. Yet, Neil Brown has still managed to compete. The NCAA needs to do something about this. I wouldnt be totally suprised if White gets poached, he obviously has a bright future as a running back.
Neil is in a VERY DIFFICULT position at WVU. Recruiting wise, we are in a league that has been VERY tough to win in. Look at Holgerson, when he started, we were competing with Oklahoma to win the big 12 titles. When he left, we were at the bottom. We have been competing with Texas and Oklahoma, 2 of the most successful college football programs in the nation. Mike Gundy has been very successful at Oklahoma St. for decades. Upstarts like TCU have played in college footballs final 4. The competition in the Big 12 has been BRUTAL. However, with Texas and Oklahoma leaving, theres a void at the top. Now is Neil Browns time to push us as perennial powers in the new big 12. Lets get behind him and hope he succeeds, I actually think he can. He's been fairly successful without a top notch QB. As a matter of fact, until Greene finally established himself, I'd say that Neil Browns QBs have played poorly. And everyone knows that QB is THE most important position on the football field. Improving QB play should help WVU become an much more successful in the new big 12. Neil Brown better find one (who knows maybe Nicco will be THAT GUY, maybe Greene will have a breakout year next year) because Jimbo has already proven that he can get top notch talent, and there will always be people clamoring for him if Neil slips up. But, I think Neil is the right man for the job right now. Lets goooo mountaineers!! 0:04 0:19

Ole run, run, pass and punt nehlen. Dude is not the legend everyone thinks he is. He had a couple of decent seasons with the majority being mediocre at best.
