    This video instills a sense of peace. It looks as if it were a full sized plane and I love the view from inside the cabin. Here's to you!

      @Seneslau07  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you! Towards that feeling of peace please also check my other C.Cub video with electric engine during summer. It pops up at the end of this video or it can be found clicking on my name and hit videos. Glad to hear it creates the feeling I intended. A little too much high speed pases at the begining though..not very scale like but learnd my lesson.

    The video was a lot of fun, camera shots were real similar to the full size plane when i was flying a piper cub 50 years ago.
    later on in the 80s i flew RC on skiis. Bring back memories because i dont have the time or money any longer. Thankyou for that, very well done

    • @Seneslau07
      @Seneslau07  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you! I'm sure yours are as awesome as mine when shown in the right video. Why two? One gas and one electric? It's been a while now that mine is electric powered...a couple of videos with it too, including one with a nice electronic engine sound system.

      @@Seneslau07Hi mate. Why did you change from gas to electric? Cheers!

    • @Seneslau07
      @Seneslau07  14 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      @@aviatuber1308 Hi, I had a huge crash due to the spark plug high voltage cable being eaten by the cowl edges and got some nasty interferences during flight and a vertical dive crash. Rebuilt the plane to my astonishment, and decided to go electric to see how it gows and that was a game changer because of the zero maintenance, easier and rapid operation, multiple camera angles with less vibrations, less fuss on the appartment with gas and oils etc.

    • @aviatuber1308
      @aviatuber1308 14 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@Seneslau07All right! And what about the flight time with electrics instead of gas? I am thinking in the Cub but I have the doubt between gas or electric…

    • @Seneslau07
      @Seneslau07  14 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      @aviatuber1308 The flight time is the same like 8-10min. Because on gas I landed after 10 min with 30-40% fuel left but that's the insurance I took not to run out of fuel.
      If you had gas and electrics before you should know, if not than it depends on what you're after. If you're on the mechanic side, like to work with motors, like to spend some hours more at the field sorting out why it doesn't start or run well than gas it is. If you think you would like to go, assemble it, push the throttle and be in the air, land, swap battery, fly again etc finish all in a couple of hours and leave, than electric.
      With gas, I had like 4 succesfull days at the field out of 5, the 5th time, something went wrong and needed attention.
      With electric is 5 out of 5. But..Ilove gas motors also if: they run well, have less vibrations. Didn't like it so much on the Cub because of the lack of space...everything was stuffed like crazy, the EIS abovs the gas tank, the throttle and choke servos round the tank with bended pushrods,..but it sounds good and has its magic.
      I like the Cub electric better, after that I've converted also the Seagull 1.7m Zlin to electric, got like 15-20% of the weight off from reinforcements and gas motor weight, it's like reborne now!

    I fly some simple electric slow flyers for all the reasons you mentioned; disconnecting from our daily toils and distractions to reconnect with nature and our own consciousness. I live in the southwestern desert of Arizona and luckily have a very scenic airfield near my home. This is a great video and beautiful plane!

      That's nice that you heave it close too! Mine is at about 1km from my apartment. I also feel the need and do switch to simple smaller electrics sometimes and recently made this Cub and also a Zlin from gas to electric. Regarding the field and nature, for over a year now I use my flying field also for daily running with my brother, bearfoot walks all year long including in snow and sungazing. It's a thrill! Cheers!

I love the fact I have not seen any videos of it's kind anywhere, or I should say with all the RC videos I have watched. I live in florida and we don't get much snow down here, so it's great seeing how the other 49 states get flying time in during the winter months.. Best Wishes, and Thank You for sharing...!

      Thank you! Glad to hear that. Thing is I have a style of my own that instead of filming one day and make a video out of it, I choose to film maybe one year on multiple ocasions, with different camera angles and then I wayt to get the courage to stay in front of the pc tens of hours and transform tens of videos totaling a few hours in a 15-25 min video.
      Feel free to check my channel for a few more videos like this, with the same plane, including with electric power in winter and summer, with an electronic engine sound module that I consider to be great, and other..
      I'm thankfull to have found a way of enjoying this hobby during the winter too. And the Cub is a fantastic platform for that, you can't have the same feel with an acrobat on skis that's for sure.

      Thank you! The skis didn't catch the market somehow I don't know why. When you see the plane coming on landing, and on the last flare you see the rear part of the skis touching the ground and their front coming down, as the springs that keeps them level with the fuselage, get tension, and the plane satles on them, there is nothing like that with anything else.

    I would suggest putting a remote starter and a remote choke on that playing it makes things a lot easier. I have it on two of my gas models and it's fantastic. While flying you can cut the engine and then restart it when you're in the air people will think it's a dead stick haha. It's very inexpensive approximately 110 dollars. It takes about 25 minutes to put in. Just a suggestion you'll have a lot of fun with it, and save your fingers or hand. When people see it at the field they going to want to know where did you get that looks great it's so cool.

    • @Seneslau07
      @Seneslau07  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I've thought about that since I've saw on youtube a DLE 30cc with electric starter. I don't know if there is much room left in the small cowl of the Cub for that starter kit which for me doesn't matter anymore because I've made it electric powered now for a wile and love it. Thanks for the tip!

    Could I ask how much you spent to complete the kit. I’m looking at this plane for my first arf but want an idea of what I should expect to spend to complete it. Thank you and great video

    • @Seneslau07
      @Seneslau07  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi, this arf took me quite some time. Maybe because first I mounted a gas engine which is more complex then an electric one, and because I like to think the steps from the manual and add changes to my needs. Like for example I've mounted a 20cc gas not 15. Because of the small room it took me days to sort out how to drive the carb throttle arm through the firewall, and crumble the EIS behind the gas tank behind the firewall. Had to cut all the hinge gaps for nilon hinges, a personal preferences as I hate the ca ones, make room for the engine, those took days. This plane has about 80 pieces (including the bolts) only at the wing spars and landing gear. I've calculated about 170 hours of building, some days from morning to down. It's pretty complex. When I've made it electric it was a play..

    At 2:16 he looks at a sheet of paper. I am just getting into the hobby of gas planes and was wondering if that was a fuel mixture chart or a temperature and mixture chart or what it was? My follow up would be where can I find one online and how should I change my mixture for different climates? The problem with the planes I’m working on is that they are. Both 30 years old and have no registration numbers I can see on the engine or the glow plug. I use 20% nitro fuel currently and run relatively lean although I have been told it’s better to run a bit rich. If anyone can enlighten me that would be great. I have to say warming up and hand propping an engine for 30 mins after fully taking it apart and cleaning it is so worth the feeling you get when the engine catches and spools to action for the first time since the late 80s. Love the hobby and hope to continue. I am still fixing up the plane and am yet to fly but I will probably make a maiden voyage sometime next week.

      Hi, yes I have to check my homemade mixture cardboard because I don't want to leave much mixed fuel at the end of the day and need to know how much oil do I need to the amont of gas that I add to the one already in the bottle. I can't say about methanol because I don't use it. As for gas I use 25:1 mineral for break in and later 40:1 synthetic.

      @Seneslau07  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Congrats on reviving such old engines! I'm sure that putting them back together gives a great feeling of being part of a nice machine. The mixture list is nothing more than the mixtures I mentioned, at different gas quantities so I don't have to do the math at the field each time.

    Great video, is the throttle servo in the suggested position and where did you put your choke servo? Thanks

    • @Seneslau07
      @Seneslau07  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you! That was a pain in the ass to do..took me a couple of days. I've mounted the throttle and choke servos one side and the other of the fuel tank at the back of it, in front of the first seat. The hard part was to route the pushrods so that they will go besides the tank and then in front of the firewall being bend at about 90 degrees towards the middle of the firewall, then again 90 so they will pass through the holes in the firewall to the arms of the carb. the thing was...when they were pushing the carb arms, the bend part of the pushrods that was paralel to the firewal no to touch and push against the firewall...like I said, wasn't easy but it worked. More space would have been great, in the engine compartment too. I can't think of other solution. I've searched the forums for pictures of 90 degrees arms mounted on the carb so that the throttle and choke can be activated from totaly different angles so that I could mount the servos on the firewall but couldn't find a better solution in my case, maybe others did. Good luck though! Now that I have it on electric power is a blessing. When I took all the electrics, mechanics and adapters from the plane to switch it to electric, I've filled a big house table to my surprise and undestood why I've worked so much on it.. I also have pictures of it on my fb page, album Carbon Cub..take a look. facebook.com/Jackal.Astro.Pilot/

    • @Seneslau07
      @Seneslau07  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm glad you liked it. Thank you!. Well I don't think they make engines that small in 4-cylinder boxer type not even on methanol. Boxer gas engines of 20cc 2-cylinder do exist but I don't know how well they work at that size, I was thinking about that in the past. There are also 4 stroke boxer engines. Annyway I've switched to electric power after a crash due to the high voltage wire being cut and interfeared with the radio signal.

    Very "cool" vid. One suggestion The inside cockpit camera. Wouldn't it be neat if you could have a live working steering wheel in the shot? when plane banks left be able to see steering wheel turning as well. or climbing, watch steering pulling out too. ???

    • @Seneslau07
      @Seneslau07  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you! You are right, a few more cockpit details would have been a blast. Unfortunately the gas tank comes way back, blocking the area where the stick or pedals (for steering) would be. Then, there are the vibrations that loosen many things. On the electric version, it crossed my mind of a pilot on the seat, his hand moving along with the stick when the plane banks, and a camera mounted underneath the wing towards the pilot, through the windows. Maybe in the future..

    So what I liked the most about the plane are the skis that you made for them. I looked at skis from Dubro and they look like toys. The ones that you built look very professional. I bought the Saito FJ-21 4 stroke gas engine and am waiting for the COVID restrictions to be lifted in NYC before I buy the plane. The question is, would you be willing to sell me a pair of skis for this plane. Truth is I am only getting this plane because of your video.

    • @Seneslau07
      @Seneslau07  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you. I'm glad I've inspired you to enjoy RC flying in winter too. I like my skis too. As for selling skis, I have to say that I didn't think that much about it, although someone else asked me about a pair also. Besides the amount of work needed everything being made manually, from what I know the shipping taxes can be a pain. And I mean 30-50$ if not more for EU or USA. They can be that much that added to the price of the skis would be a price that I can not ask someone to pay for a pair of skis, compared to those on the market that are not expensive. If you were here I would gladly help. I can provide pictures and explanations if you want to do your own.

    • @justanotherguy469

      @@Seneslau07 Hi, thank you for replying. Your skis go very well with this plane. Dubro makes a pair, but they are not as sleek and attractive as yours. • @Seneslau07
      @Seneslau07  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you! The dimensions are aprox.30cm long and 6-7 wide, depending on what shape you like them, slimer or wider.. The material I use since my first plane 15 years ago, is a plastic used in bathrooms to cover the sink pipes. I cut the shape, separate half of the "sandwitch" so I get two skis at once, heat the tip and bend it up, also the edges so that in drifts it doesn't get stuck in hard snow with the edges, reinforce them with painted or varnished ply wood (with aluminium in the past). Springs on them so that the ski will stay paralel with the elevator in flight, but will permit the tail drop on landing. Some pictures of them in the Carbon Cub folder on my facebook: facebook.com/pg/Flying-Jackal-115490616487481/photos/?tab=album&album_id=116160346420508

      I saw another nice ski project that I like, and seems easy, at the end of the page in the next link. In witch my past project skis reinforced with aluminium apear higher on the page. After a quik look I can say that, at that ski project I would'n mount such a big and heavy spring but a much smaller one and a string to complete the lenght required. www.rcuniverse.com/forum/tips-techniques-180/1455555-home-made-snow-skis.html
