The way I gasped when I not only saw the thumbnail, but saw it's a tutorial! I've been wanting a bag like this for years and about 2 years ago I started working with leather. I am ABOLUTELY making this!
Well, guess it's time to learn how to work leather This is genuinely gorgeous!! Thanks for the tutorial, it is the first time I've ever seen a video of yours but you seem so nice and helpful, keep up the good work!
theres something so excellent about this concept, i cant believe ive never seen a beetle bag before... it all makes so much sense ! 😵💫 i had no idea i needed this
First channel I've seen a thumbnail and instantly subscribed. I'm female and hate bags. I always have and i wore combat jackets and trousers to have enough pockets for my stuff. This could change my mind. It's beautiful. I would wear it empty!!
I can so see a character from my favorite show being enamored with wanting a bag like this to carry his ammo! The other bags you've made are so creative! Some of them would be so much fun and cute to carry out in public! You have a recognizeable fanciful, yet rustic style with your work. If this is a hobby you'd persue as a business venture you'd get so many customers! Can't wait to see what you make next! Subbed!
Thank you very much! Be sure to only put BUGshots in that ammo pouch :D This is a hobby I do as a littel business adventure of mine by selling the digital patterns of all my creations :)
I am a Monster Hunter fan, and I've always wanted to make my favorite weapon, Insect Glaive. I had never found a tutorial for the bug I really liked, but now I have somewhere to start! thank you!
As a craftsman myself, I absolutely love watching you work. I'm wondering how this design would translate into a sportbike tail bag for work commuting. Maybe put an opening in the mouth for a portable camera lens to look through. Take it with me into the office, position it to capture daily interactions with toxic coworkers and office thieves who keep stealing the paper from my printer. 😂 You earned my subscription by inspiring my creative/engineering mind. Now, if I only had more time to build what I design. Thanks for sharing your skills with the world.
Haha, glad I can give you inspiration :D Making the mag bigger gernerally would work, smaller changes on the sewing hole position would be needed and there would be needed some solution for the D-rings sind they can not be scaled endlessly with it. For the back of your bike, also the legs need to be taken in consideration not to hang down and get ripped apart in your wheel. Still I think this is a funny and doable idea :)
@NilsBeardfoot I was thinking about the bag actually holding onto the tail with small straps between the legs. May have to make the legs articulate in the joints for the proper fit. The closure would also need to be secure enough to withstand 100+ mph wind speed and keep the inside dry in the rain. With the right straps attached to the legs, it could also double as a sling bag. Most commercial sportbike tail bags can be worn as backpacks or hip bags, depending on the design.
Aww, come on! Revisit this and show how you did the horn part! This is gorgeous, and it's going to be the reason I finally buy all the leathercraft gear I've been researching.
I love the natural browns but I also think it would look amazing with a sutble dark mossy green/blue and even some iridescent touches ❤ this is a neat bag, thank you for sharing
I thought about that already, the process it not that easy to show. I mostly think of the shape in my mind, create a first rough template digital from it, print it and try it out. From this on the process repeats: imagine, transfer digital, print, build, repeat :)
Gracias, ciertamente no es el tamaño más favorable en términos de volumen, se podría hacer más grande, pero eso también lo haría más difícil de manejar.
Thank you :) Yes it is, but latest when you go +50% you should add additional sewing holes and the D-rings can not scale endlessly, so you have to make little adjustments here, but then you should be good to go :)
I know exactly what you mean, in the beginning I had the same fear, so I started with just the basic pieces and with every project bought a view more. Maybe thats also an idea for you?
Thank you :) I used music before, but abandoned it, because you never get fitting one for everyone, so if you like music you can play your own along the video :)
despite the complexity you make it look so simple! i've never done anything like this before but i want to try! would this be a good project for a complete beginner or should i try try something easier first? also are the materials expensive?
There are many online leatherwork shops to order from in many countrys. Many tools can be substituted for tools you may have already: a bonefolder could be just the blund side of the right fork and with the tips you can mark even distance between sewing holes. Minimum tools are an awl, needles for sewing, cutting knife and board and beveler for the edges, for embossing some stone plate, a plastic hammer and any stamps you like.
@@NilsBeardfoot I have most of the mandatory required things! nice!! I think I'm going to save up for this pattern and the acorn pattern! I feel like the pattern would also be really cool to try in fabric with the different pattern pieces as quilted pieces for the stability
@@NilsBeardfoot also I don't know if your aware but your personal website re-directs to a ''not succure website' on my browser. just in case you didn't know.
I literally gasped when I saw the thumbnail this is GORGEOUS

haha, thank you. A museum would be tempting, but I also like to just wear the things I create :)
the texture/coloring on the outer shell is amazing, i thought this bag was made partially out of wood at first! what a sick design, i love it!!

This may have been one of the coolest things I've seen on the internet!!! I want one so badly, but I've no idea how to work on leather 😭

So cool! Shaping that top horn seems a little bit intimidating though.
Thank you :) Give it a bit of a bend and most of it will pull itself into place by sewing, also you can always remoisten it and shape it again

Thank you so much :)
This is amazing! Would you consider a video on how you create your patterns digitally? Great work, thanks for sharing

I would love to see more bug bags pleeasasssseseeeee
Me too, from the general shape of this one you could create a lady bug and a scarab without the horns. Lets see if any ideas come up :)

I've never seen a bag I needed more oh my god. Do you sell the finished work at all, or only the patterns?
Unfortunately only the pattern, maybe you can give it a try yourself?
Beetle bag, beetle bag, beetle bag!
THE SUMMONING HAS BEGUN!
I don't have leather, but I bet this would look amazing using foam
I could imagine this too, most difficult party is getting top and bottom together stable.
HOLY f* S* !!! What??? This is so so amazing ❤👀 whoa. !!!

Wow! Absolutely stunning! Is it possible to size up the patterns and make a bigger one?
Thank you :) Yes it is, but latest when you go +50% you should add additional sewing holes and the D-rings can not scale endlessly, so you have to make little adjustments here, but then you should be good to go :)

Such a gorgeous design. Also I’ve never seen anyone use an airbrush to stain leather before, what dyes are you using?
Thank you :) Mostly I use Fiebings Pro dye, it creats a lot of dust, so be sure to do it outside and use protection gear
