    In this video Will Paterson, Logo Designer and hand lettering artist shows you how to mind map for your logo designs. Mind Mapping is a creative tool that everyone can do to visualise your thoughts and connect current ideas to generate other ones. In Logo Design for clients, it's amazing how good this technique is for showing the client your thought process when presenting the logo.

      @Will Paterson, PLEASE mate, can you propose alternatives for Shape builder in Affinity Designer or Vectornator? Can’t get to this smooth grid method in both softwares (on iPad) T_T

      A company that makes molds for bathtubs, sinks: *most likely not round*
      Jokes aside, I think the cube shape is more appropriate for casting ingots, rather than home appliances. I think a logo that looks like a product just being separated from its mold would fit the concept better.

    I have a file called logo graveyard that I add unused stuff all the time. You can always recycle stuff there that might be useful on another project. I use Millanote for ideation, and communication.

    Well this is good timing. Just at the start of a logo design project for a client and was struggling to narrow down an idea so thought I would have a quick break on TH-cam and here’s this video. Going to give this technique a try and see how that works for me. Thanks, videos showing your process from start to end of a project is very handy for me as a junior designer. Keep up the good work Will.

    Was a Serif Style Logotype ever on the table during your decision making process? I guess just because there is "Brooks" in the name, I see more of a Ralph Lauren Esque serif type with a monoline black/white style logo, which is what I was expecting to see and then I was like wow that is super dope and different! The icon you developed is amazing, that's crazy how you got there. Just wandering how you ruled out serifs/vouge-esque work . . . (unless the client said we don't want that lol, then that would make sense).

    This app is a great tip! However, I would replace all of the processes with brand exploration. Sitting down for intensive brand discovery sessions with a client is infinitely more insightful than personal brainstorming and I have ceased providing any logos, websites, or other major brand related projects without this step.
    I look forward to trying this app as I usually use an editable pdf doc to gather my info, then dump it all into my AI or ID doc off-canvas.
    Thanks!

    • @willpatersondesign
      @willpatersondesign  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Brand discovery is part of the process - but in my experience you would do this well before mind mapping. :)

    You use the word 'modern' a lot when describing what kind of product you aim to make. I wonder then what are the characteristics of 'outdated' but otherwise good logos? How do you incorporate inspirations from design history without creating something old-fashioned? How do you plan designs that are relevant but not 'trendy', thus more enduring for a unique brand identity?

    • @kannonfps
      @kannonfps 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      its only a guess/pov and i know its been a year but wanted to share a pov on that :D hope you don't mind
      For me modern stands for a logo that can stay the same for a long period of time, for example the Nike logo for me at least is modern and had always been the same
      apple for example their first logo was everything but "modern" and didnt standed the challenge of time and they had to change

    I love this concept, but hate that it isn't web-based. I use Milanote a lot personally and professionally since it does allow for collaboration and easy sharing since several of my clients and team members are on both mac and pc.
    Do you know of something similar that is either web-based or multi-platform? I think I could do something similar in Milanote, but I loved the fluidity of the process in Mindnode.
