Wangan Style Racing

- Between roughly 2006 and 2008 (as far as I can recall) there was a video uploaded to TH-cam called “Wangan Style Racing”, with “Blue Blazes” by Yuzo Koshiro overlaid onto a bunch of then relatively obscure (on the internet at least) Japanese clips from 1991’s Wangan Midnight and numerous OPTION Smokey Nagata/RE Amemiya DVD’s.
This “Wangan Style Racing” video had garnered well over 300,000 views at the time of its deletion, which was quite a milestone for an automotive related video back in that period. I’m not sure why it was deleted, or who had made it, but I remember watching it many a time at the age of 17, dreaming of the day I’d one day own my own GT-R.
I’ve done my best - via memory alone - to recall how the video was made, how it was laid out, and how the clips were timed. Hopefully this brings back memories to those who watched it, and creates new ones for current fans of the Japanese Performance Car era. - เกม
I remember having the original upload of this playing in the background while pulling an all-nighter where I worked on my seinor high school English class final report paper/video presentation on various aspects of Japanese street racing culture back in iirc May of 08.' (almost sixteen fucking years ago!) I was switcing between videos I was going to use, songs from WMMT 1-3 and the anime which had just come out in 07, and of course good ol' Eurobeat/Initial D sound files to keep myself motivated on top of chainsmoking and chugging coffee while leaning out of my bedroom window in an incredibly shitty and half-hearted attempt to hide the fact that I smoked from my parents and daydreaming about making my janky ass 1990 240SX hatchback a force to be recokend with (frame rotted out long ago and the dream was never realized). I don't remember every small detail from the original upload, but this is pretty damn close. You're doing the lords work brother thank you for trying to recreate this!
Also, for those of you wondering the presentation went well! It spanned over two days due to senior skip day. I brought in my flip-top modded ps2 with Initial D Special Stage and the Genki made Wangan Midnight game so the mostly detatched wigger kids who missed day 1 would be more engaged on day 2 and it worked. I wound up getting a 98/100. Two points taken off for a weak opening due to sleep depirvation.
Tl;DR: Old fuck remembers OG upload and has fond memories of it.
I want to be street racer
Have never seen the original however this is so heartwarming to see. Been watching a lot of Option videos for a long time making the Shutokou very nostalgic to me
Amazing edit..
As a personal note, I spent some years working in Tokyo, always loved cars and since I was a kid I focused my entire life around them. When I was there I got the opportunity to drive some cars, one of those been a tuned Porsche 964. Hard to explain what I felt, but blasting the Shuto at +2xx km/h late at night is a sensation very few will ever experience. Been in trance since then.
I was lucky enough to live in Japan for quite awhile and had the opportunity to also drive quickly on the Osaka Kanjo-San and Shuto Expressway. I know this feeling you speak of, but I assure you that as you get older, the appeal of driving on a quiet, nice mountain switchback is just as good!
Mate, this is exceptional, I've got goosbumps all over just watching these wonderful machines do what they were always made to do, absoloute perfection, well done.
This takes me back to better simpler times
🙌 incredible the original video which is more 6 than years old has been deleted from youtube. and you almost recreated the video almost identically with the same vibe. but from memory one part is missing, the part on the yatabe track with Daijiro Inada (video option). nice edit!! ++ 😎👌🔥
Thanks - it was literally all from memory. I’m pretty sure it’s been deleted and off of YT for about 10+ years, actually. I thought about including the Daijiro Inada S14 bit, but I wasn’t 100% sure it was in the original video or if my memory was playing tricks on me. The one part I regret the most is that I couldn’t find the clip of the Top Secret Supra from the bridge with the tag at the bottom that says “So as you can see, we did it.”
I appreciate that you remember the original enough to commend my remake!
Mate this is awesome. Of course,, never watched the original video but what you've made here looks amazing.
Glad you enjoyed it! Thank you!
@@39PSIOnTheDailythis is the original Wangan Midnight movie series, right?
I can already feel the vibes of the Midnight
That is so amazing I liked Old Style Japan street Racing from the 2000s.
Devil Z 💙
Wangan Midnight?
It's a shame that the initial Z is starting to have the same meaning as Hakenkreuz due to RuZZia...
Iv felt that speed before.. nothing like it.. nothing can explain the feeling..
its my athem of night racing
Thank you for this!
Now this is sick! 😮😎👏
Great video man
I forgot about this compilation, lol.
The fact that someone even remembers it besides me in the first place is something! This is a recreation of that compilation - Is it as you remember it?
@39PSIOnTheDaily you did a nice job brother
Mam glad this one of US most popular car in 70's was used speed racing on Bayshore highway with aesthetic music ever
Godly.

Yuzo Koshiro - Blue Blazes - Wangan Midnight Maximum Tune 2
DATSUNN!
Where is this actual car now? I heard this was the only car which looked as close as to the one from the anime
The actual SSS car is out of sight and many people have speculated as to its whereabouts with no clear answer. I’m unsure of where it is now, but it did feature a genuine heavily modified L28T engine making around 600+PS by a company called Speed Shop Shinohara. Any SSS parts are highly sought after now, as the shop long ago went defunct.
Auto Team Retro wrote a great article on it here: facebook.com/share/pbaYTWnQMb9h4zLH/?mibextid=WC7FNe
The S30 Z is the most beautiful car in my opinion. That's thr PS30, right?
is that the famous orido from hot version?
I believe so. I’m pretty sure that’s his old Wedssport Supra.
I noticed as well, I didn't know Orido was also doing highway races before Hot Version
