I used to work in Sega arcades back in the 90s. Hearing Jacky himself present this is pure magic.

@@chadkennedy7855 About me? Yes, I used to install and repair Sega's arcade hardware back then. I also got to work on many of their larger attractions, like the R360, AS-1 and VR-1: Space Mission.
@@Saur- Please tell me you saved at least one Sega R360 (or even an AS-1) and have it in your garage somewhere. So many arcades just threw out their R360s into the junk yard when they wanted to get rid of them. Its sad to hear about do many R360s being lost. They are so rare now.

I’ll never forget seeing Shun’s stage for the first time at a Daytona Beach Arcade as a kid. My young mind was blown away when that first bridge overpass came around.
Did they have Daytona arcades too? xD
Hahaha sure did! That was impressive also!
Wait wait wait you went to that right by the Daytona Beach BIG ASSED arcade too? ???? It was what 3-4 giant buildings long near a haunted house even at the time in the 90's!!!! Heck at one time together in just ONE part of the arcade was Tekken 3, Ehrgeiz, AND Marvel vs Capcom. Ehrgeiz even then and so much more now is a EXTREMELY rare cab too!
That boardwalk had the longest stretch of arcades I had ever seen here in FL! I miss the days of arcades, and being wowed at tech, that was either new and revolutionary, or just impossible to recreate at home like all the racing and flight games.

SEGA was SO SO AHEAD of their times. all other 3D games looked like crap in comparison of their games back in the days. 🤩! And the arcade was a wonderful technical showcase. Games you couldn't have at home EVEN with your most powerful PC 💪
I would love a Virtua Fighter collection for PS4/PS5. I played this series on my Saturn a lot. Virtua Fighter, Virtua Racing, and Daytona USA are some of my favorite games from that era. I'm very happy we are getting VF5 for PS4.

That game was probably the most revolutionary game ever made for it's time. Nothing came close to it in the graphics department for like 5 years
I had a smile all the way through this, I loved the original Virtua Fighter 5 and still play it on Xbox 360. I'm so glad and excited Virtua Fighter is on the move again and I can only imagine what Ultimate Showdown will do for the franchise's future.

This was my first fighting game! I got it on Christmas morning 1995 with my new Sega Saturn. I was 5 and I didn’t know it then but that started a 26 year long love story with not only Virtua Fighter, but with fighting games in general. This was a wonderful retrospective and brought me back to that simpler time.
Virtua Fighter 2 is still an amazing game. I have very fond memories of renting a Sega Saturn just to play it. I'm really enjoying these retrospectives.
I would love VF2 skins to go with the VF1 skins in Ultimate Showdown.

Imagine Akira Yuki (Shin-ichiro Miki) narrating a retrospective for the original version of VF5.
Unfortunately I think that's unlikely unless the voice actor speaks acceptable English (which he most probably doesn't). This will probably feature the characters who speak English in the game. I'd love to be wrong, though!
Next one will be Lion, Jeffery, Wolf, Vanessa, El Blaze and Brad.

I wonder if at the end of this retrospective series, Sega is going to announce a collection of Virtua Fighter 1 ~ 4.
I just 🤤 that would be the best collection ever. Would love to own perfect arcade versions of 3 and 4 rather than the old ports that ended up on consoles.
They mentioned the anime, glad they choose not to forget or gloss over it.
Vf2 was the game that got me into the series. I love it! Of course I love all the sega arcades from this era like Virtua Striker 2 (SEGA, remake this one with the exact same aesthetics pls), house of the dead, Virtua cop, Virtua on and many more
VF2, Virtua Cop and Daytona were the only 3 games we had for our Saturn and that's all we really needed. So much fun.
Absolutely stunning, for me the best fighting game of the time, both in Arcade and Saturn, I had Virtua Fighter 2 my first game on this console. Model 2 Collection for PS3 did not know !! I'll look for it !!
Still one of my all time favorite games, I'm so thankful to have grown up with this masterpiece on the Sega Saturn ^_^
This game was way ahead of its time. It was the perfect fighting simulator. I’ve spent so much time working on Akira, Shun Di and Lion combos. So freaking awesome. I love it.

Virtua Fighter 2 has aged remarkably well. Most 3D games from the era look fuzzy, distorted or jagged, yet Sega arcade games and even their home ports look great when we take hardware limitations into consideration. Sega were a force a to be reckoned with in the mid nineties. There was this perfect yin and yang balance between Sega and Nintendo. Nintendo offered more immersive games that focused on storytelling and atmosphere where Sega offered the highest quality, instantly appealing gameplay and cutting edge visuals.
My favorite magazine, Game Players, gave the Saturn version a 99%, which was the highest score they had ever given a game and said, "If you have a Saturn and you don't buy this game, you're just plain stupid." They even gave it their 1995 Game of the Year. I *loved* VF2 and was obsessed with it for a long time. Probably my favorite fighting game ever.

Nice job Sega. We miss Virtua Fighter. It was Virtua Fighter 5 Final Showdown who made me love this series. That's a perfect fighting game in my opinion. Plus, the best customization for any fighting game too.
This was my jam on Saturn, played it on VF2.1 mode and was amazed at the "AI mode" "learning my tendencies. Got it on that Christmas bundle with Virtua Cop and Daytona USA; lucked out and also got a used copy of Guardian Heroes the same day.

Virtua Fighter 2 for Saturn had me hyped when I got it. Before that I had the Genesis versiom. I currently have it for PS3 and Steam (Genesis).
Virtua Fighter 2 was my very first 3D fighting game for my Sega Saturn.

I played it tons on my old PC as a kid. I remember my family computer actually came with the demo version. You could only pick Lion and Sarah but we'd still play the heck out of it.

It's interesting to have learned, by going back and watching old, pre-Segata Sanshiro Saturn ads, that the current reflective eyeball logo sequence is kind of a callback to those days.
We're getting spoiled here, my man Jacky my favorite of them all, he's just pure and raw 90's rad and coolness personified.

The arcades were so much fun and a great place to hangout. If you wanted to experience the latest technology in gaming, you had to see it in the arcade. SEGA always had the best boards and most advanced games in the 80s and 90s. Their arcade games were so advanced and graphically intense they could not faithfully port them home on weaker consoles. Yu Suzuki and AM2 were unstoppable.
I have Virtua Fighter 2 JP on Saturn. I should totally pop it in tonight!
The only Virtua fighter game I've played so far and I enjoyed it alot. I played the against my cousin after I bought it on the Xbox arcade and I would always lose to Sarah because of her one kicking move.
I'm thinking about picking up a virtua fighter 5 and revisiting this series again.

Didn't have the Sega Saturn but I loved playing this game in the arcades or one of the kiosks at the store while I waited for my mom to finish shopping.

@@UMAtronic Yeah, definitely, forgot those two. Although that further iterations of these fighters obviously added more/different characters (some not for the better) and became graphically advanced, it does appear that the 2nd game of these franchises are their shining point.

Maybe I understand why they left it out, but it would have been a nice detail to see a small mention of the Master System version of Virtua Fighter Mini/Animation if they were to include the Game Gear version in this retrospective. Despite being released only in Brazil, it's still as official as it can be.
