      Yeah i paid a pretty penny for mods done but have cb band uper and lowers and on low my dead key is set to 2watts and swing to 35 watts and on high dead key is 14 watt and swings to 30 watts a real talker and yes ex speaker is a must have . I talk skip most any time i try but my mic comes out but look just like this one same mods can be done and swing mod just have to find the right guy best way to do it is set on low 2 watt dead key and run a amp that way your radio wont even get warm @@JohnnyNJones

    Hey Johnny mel here, I bought one smart radios I love the concept, small ,lots of channels and the high an low , but what sucks is ive try alot of different types of antennas and the SWRs suck the best ive gotten is 1.2 ch.1 an 2.2 on ch.40 and thats with a little Wil mag. Base,

      That’s very interesting.
      I would suggest trying multiple SWR meters.
      If the readings are the same then you’ll have to do some tuning
      Try to get that 1.2 SWR around channel 19
      That way hopefully channel 1 and channel 40 will be something like 1.8
      But listen I don’t want you to worry about this too much, an SWR of 2 and under is alright
      So try to tune that antenna a little bit to bring your SWR curve down around the middle of the band and you should be good
      And in your case since your SWR is better on 1 than 40 you need to shorten your antenna by a small amount using the Adjustment screw on your antenna
      Hopefully that makes things a little easier for you

      These may have some jumpers that connect the front panel, open it up and see if you are getting a bad connection

    bottom line..........do you recommend this radio?

    • @JohnnyNJones
      @JohnnyNJones  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      TexasRacoon601 With the 60 dollar price tag, the 8 watt capability, small size and cast aluminum design I’d say it’s worth every penny.
      I would recommend it however it does have to be modified to use on CB bands that is one of the downfalls
      I’ll be putting this in my car with a $17
      Tram 4 foot mag mount antenna
      Thanks for commenting!
      Also the overheating issue was caused by the swing kit (confirmed)

      Seems a lot like the President radios... which I have couple...

      @@mattriley6866 Yep in one of my very recent videos I figured out that many of these radios are mass produced And rebranded. In fact if you’re quick enough you can go get the unbranded version right now for $40

      @@JohnnyNJones So do you work on radios? I have a president Richard that is converted to 11 meter. I get a lot of great feed back on how it sounds, gets out. so on & so forth. I’m a retired driver so of course looking to see if those are able to put out a little more.. I got them because I guess being amateur ham radio they put a little more watts out?? I only run them in my dodge trucks, with president antennas. I have a Ronald In the manual transmission truck. It’s smaller so it fits good where I mount the CB’s. So anyway wondered if you knew if those radios were capable of being turned up was my question?

      @@mattriley6866 Well I don’t necessarily peak and tune radios I just try to fix what’s broken.
      But yes you can get more power out of those radios, The one in this video had a swing MOD attached So it was doing something like 20 watts.
      The problem is with small radios like this you don’t want to crank the power up because they get so hot they will eventually die.
      Your best bet is to get a full 102 Steel whip antenna, That will increase your range much more than upping the power.
      Power does not scale Linearly, So there comes a point when having more power is not even practically useful
      For instance NASA uses something like 2 watts of power to communicate with their satellites.

    In Belgium they are D band and sold as that , not 11m :)
    th-cam.com/video/OO9zWwWT1W0/w-d-xo.html
    came across this when searching youtube in one of the comments :
    3 cases mods power albrecht 6110
    1. Strap ( brugje solderen ) OP1 = adjustable power = 4Watt / 8Watt
    (10 Watt if the semi-adjustable anti-clockwise power is set), the default band becomes DE + increasing the number of channels to 400;
    2. Strap( brugje solderen ) OP2 = radio amateur = 11M= adjustable power 4 / 8wati (passionate only);
    3. C-E power regulator strap (middle pins + left pins as you look from the front of the station) = fixed power between 20wati-30wati maximum (antenna to be very well calibrated).NOT AM

    I hate menu driven radios. Such a pain if you are mobile to operate, however, radios are all going this way! Shame, it was so much better back in the 70s, 80, when everything had it own control and you could work it and drive easily. Provided you gave the CB second priority over driving. Thanks for the demo though, but the receiver does not sound to healthy!

      bob fourjs Yeah someone ended up adding parts for a swing kit. And desoldering other components.
      I’m gonna put the thing back stock.
      I prefer knobs over a menu as well, But since the channel up and down buttons are on the mic I think it makes it easier than turning the channel knob.
      So I’m a bit torn I like buttons I like switches, But I do like the ease-of-use mic buttons and small form factor this has.
      Ultimately it’s just not a radio you can play with too much while you’re driving

      @@mattriley6866 Yeah, tell me about it. Much better you can reach down without looking and turn the knob on Channel change, volume, squelch, nice and quick. Menu driven radios, press said button, check menu is on the right selection, press up and down buttons till you get setting you need. Ah, to far because you was pressing to fast out of frustration. Meanwhile you are not paying attention to the road, got it set, now you need to set the channel, so menu, then note channel, either count clicks up or down to get to channel, oh crap, lost count, now need to look down see where we are, needs more clicks. What a pain, old channel change, turn the know and if you didn't hit it first time you are not far away, quick glance, two away, two clicks, "On channel", you can reach all the knobs by feel and adjust in a second. Try doing that with a menu driven radio. I hate them and nearly all have gone that way! I think it is a step backwards.

      @@BoB4jjjjs Yeah and for me the biggest part is getting it set up and squared away where it sounds good and echo works good that way I don’t have to mess with it while I’m driving down the road. But out where I live doesn’t seem like a whole lot of people are on the radio anymore, hopefully will get back to using CB again that would be great.

      @@mattriley6866 There are very few people on where I am, only the odd one appears when DX (skip) is running and it took me all day just to talk to one trucker. 1 trucker, at one time here you couldn't get a word in edgeways on 19. Now you can almost talk on it and there will be no truckers tell you to get to f*** off the channel. There is no one on 14 at all. looking through the channels, it is very empty, heard someone talking very far away. It is such a shame, but I left CB myself for a while and only got back into it a year or so ago. I was hoping some others were still on, but no.
