    Great info man...On a mission now. You are one of very few that get into the non-circulating side of multiple-grows with success, and a way to alleviate having to check many different water levels, and try to mix and balance nutes from container to container...Thanks for the info.

      You are welcome! Hate to sound lazy, but I really like systems that take care of themselves.

      @@MattGarver Quick note...I have created three big float valve systems, thanks to your info. They've saved me a ton of time and effort. I just finished an awesome sandwich with some Beefsteaks I grew with it. I'm also growing cucumbers successfully, along with Zucchini and more to come...Now that I've had some experience with it, I'm very happy. Some challenges, but overall, wow. I'll shoot over a video in the next few days to prob the Hydroponics for beginners FB group, or the Kratky group. Will 100% give you a shout out man. HUGE game changer. I can't even express how much time you've saved for me with this system...

    Mr. Garver I have learned much from your work here and the WordPress site. Thank you. Also all of Dr. BA Kratky's papers and videos. I have done a few trials in my 400' GH with success, and am designing a full scale conversion. One question I have not caught Kratky or anyone answer, what besides disposal, are the options for any fluid left in a container after terminating a crop? obviously one could use outdoors, but what is your process?

    • @MattGarver
      @MattGarver  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you for such kind words. Most of my work has been proof of concept and trials with large plants using the fill and forget method. Because of the amount of leftover nutrient, I switched over to using float valve and reservoir gravity feed systems as time went along. That has helped out. With the size operation of a greenhouse, I would reach out to the greenhouse hydroponic community to solicit their wisdom. Hopefully you will get the answers that you need asking on those forums.

      @@MattGarver thank you for the thoughtful reply. And yes, I had already planned the beds to be float controlled, but that could still leave 5-8 gallons in a 27 gallon system? My intention now is dilution and using in the outdoor gardens. I will check EC carefully in the spent fluids and if there is a way to recycle to the hydro systems I will post. I am in an arid region, and have built a many thousands gallons rainwater catchment, and wish to run the G/H on this rainwater. Hence the interest in Kratky. Thanks again.

    Outstanding tutorial Sir. My only question is, if I'm running multiple 5 gallon buckets for tomatoes and peppers that require similar EC nutrients, how does the float valve differentiate between a plant that drinks more than another and maintain adequate levels across all the buckets? Thanks and Semper Fi, Ken

    • @MattGarver
      @MattGarver  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      If you do more buckets, there are a couple ideas.
      1. At the end of a longer run, use a shutoff drain to pull off old nutrients periodically.
      2. Create multiple runs from your reservoir, each with a separate controller bucket.

    Awesome tutorial. Do you have any suggestions for a float valve to use in a smaller kratky system on the order of half a gallon where space is limited for the equipment illustrated in your video?

    • @MattGarver
      @MattGarver  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Systems can be scaled down. Are you saying that your reservoir is around half-gallon in size? Or, is that the size of your grow containers? Amazon.com sells smaller float valves for other applications like water top off in an aquarium that can be used. A couple small plastic containers can be stacked with water in the top one and a float valve in the lower one. Water would go to several small grow containers if using the tubing and grommets in the video and could feed multiple small containers.

    • @Thomasxtr
      @Thomasxtr 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@MattGarver The container itself is half gallon or smaller…much like your mason jar size.

    • @MattGarver
      @MattGarver  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@Thomasxtr Help to know more. For small containers you need to probably empty every 1 week or 1 month, since they concentrate pH issues and salt from nutrient issues. Glass Mason jars are popular but bad choices. If containers that are plastic, the splitters and grommets for the tubing in the video will allow running nutrients from a reservoir. In small spaces, look in a kitchen department for containers for small containers. Try to use a container that is just large enough to insert a float valve. Use the largest reservoir that fits your space and then run your tubing from the container from your float valve to the grow containers. If you are using glass containers, you may need to look at siphon tubes to refill unless comfortable with drilling glass.

    So just so it's clear, non-circulating hydroponics can use half strength nutrient solution compared to circulation systems and achieve the same results?

    • @MattGarver
      @MattGarver  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Good question, and true. I've grown beautiful and massive plants with half strength nutrients. They typically drink more than eat. Dyna-Gro bottles even state using half strength on passive hydroponics.
