growing up a little white boy from a small town in Wisconsin I used to watch Soul Train every Saturday at 1 p.m. growing up that's when I first discovered the Commodores and I knew when I grow up I want to be a black musician and play in a funk band!!!!!

I am a skilled long-time guitar player, but something to be said about such a soulful, slightly out of tune, yet so simple guitar solo. Kids today are great, but they often don't just have that "touch" ...they don't have that something that is so hard to explain or quantify
i'm a long-time guitarist too. i know what you're talking about. it's called "inflections". kids today are technically proficient. but most of them don't seem to understand inflections. a simple dream of bending a string means a lot in music.

It was alive, and everyone was "in a band" and learning to play. Yes, VERY decadent and over the top our Reagan years were (where is he now?) but I WANTED to play the guitar BECAUSE of PRINCE. It was the WAY he played it, loved it, held it, caressed it .....his "feel" and emotion did it for me. I loved my metal guys, Randy Rhoads was cetainly the other major influence for me, but Prince was my biggest, and still is my biggest, today. It was more about HOW he played and not what.
True, they don't know how to use their RIGHT hand (for a right handed player). How to make pinch harmonics, to use for dampening, and all the other things that give your playing "personality".
