I remember hearing about Strange World once quite a while ago, but only because there was an easter egg for it at the end of Encanto. I researched it a bit and thought it looked cool, but it completely disappeared from my brain because, like I said, I only heard of it that one time. I didn't even know that it was out until Roundtable posted a video about it, and I was like "oh, that movie... it's out?" And it really sucks that the only reason I knew it existed was because Marvel taught me to stay for the credits. And, mind you, it wasn't even super obvious what the easter egg was. So yeah, absolutely terrible marketing from Disney.
I hated how the trailer spoiled the dad being alive they should’ve kept that Note I haven’t seen the movie yet so until I see it this will be my one and only hate for it
I have actually learned to lower my head whenever Disney trailers come out at the cinema, but yeah, for this one it'd have had to been deaf as well in order to avoid it...
On the other hand, it's makes a lot of people very happy to see such a diabolical and hypocritical empire of a company lose over a hundred million dollars. XD
@@Fionapollo But seriously, with a film that costs 135-180 million dollars, it needs to appeal to the mass majority and many places unfortunately just aren't there with gay people. Disney knows this and so they didn't even try, because they have their superhero films to rake in the cash and they're too big to fail. Independently made projects, especially on social media, have been more successful because they know the target demographic is smaller and are looking for content that speaks to them.

I think one of the biggest reason is that it wasn't marketed as much and they released it the same time they released Black panther : Wakanda Forever, Disney definitely put this movie out to die for whatever reason they did it
They put it around the same time as the World Cup too, which points me to the belief that they wanted this to fail so that the people making these movies would not be able to try & put more LGBT+ characters into the movies they make, which is unfortunate considering the gay scene in this movie is better than Q-Force.

This is something I've talked a lot about with my girlfriend. We watched Strange World quite recently and we really enjoyed it. I was amazed about the creatures' designs, and she was impressed by the art style and animation. But neither of us had seen much advertisement for the movie at all. I remember seeing like 1 or 2 ads on TH-cam videos promoting the film and that was it. Disney wasn't promoting it and people on Twitter weren't talking about it much either (not anyone we followed at least). One hypothesis we have (well, mostly my girlfriend) is that maybe it was a failure designed to focus more on Disney + and having an excuse to ditch cinemas as much as possible, similar to what happened with Treasure Planet and Atlantis for 2D Disney animation.
Another problem with strange world is that the actual advertisements they had were AWFUL I got an ad for strange world almost every day on spotify and the joke they chose to show was the weakest one in the movie "How are you my dad?" "Well when two people love eachother-" "NO NO STOP TALKING" like I hear that and I immediately don't feel like going to see this movie when that lame joke is the one they're presenting front and center Even if they did get the ads out to more people it would just increase the amount of people who weren't going to see this movie, like me.

Anyway I feel sorry for the people who worked on the show, they probably put lots of effort on especially the art and then Disney just went “Meh” to their work.
Disney also self-sabotaged Martin Scorsese’s Kundun. They did it to please the Chinese Communist Party, who got really mad that Disney and Martin Scorsese were making a film about the 14th Dalai Lama and China’s invasion and occupation of Tibet. China banned Disney from operating there and postponed the construction of Shanghai Disneyland unless they set up Kundun to fail. Still, Kundun is a really great film. It’s a hidden gem among Disney’s live action films. And one of Martin Scorsese’s best and most underrated films. Disney buried it so deep that it’s not on Disney+ or any digital platform. But you can get it on DVD or Blu-ray.
Regarding the movie ticket price, AMC and smaller chains in the states usually offer a fair price for tickets... REGAL ON THE OTHER HAND will squeeze your wallet like a lemon. Good thing my college town cinemas are just three Regals and an AMC, huh? 😅
17$ for a single movie watch sounds insane... I went to see this same movie at my local cinema during the premiere week and it cost me 5€, and it'd be 3€ if I went now right before they pull it out.
It's pretty intriguing that this almost always seems to happen with media that includes "controversial" things such as, you know, basic representation. Feels like yet another repeat of First Kill, which was barely given any budget, advertising, or a chance at all before being canceled for "low viewership" (which wasn't even true because it had a fairly large and dedicated fandom before its sudden demise). Meanwhile, Riverdale, Emily in Paris, and other bland playing-it-safe shows get season after season and incessant marketing.
Finally got the chance to watch the movie yesterday, I thought it was a good movie but I felt like it was a little short, though that might just be because a lot of non-animated Disney films have been SO long and just ruined how I view shorter movies in comparison.

So, I've heard the whole production planning thing, and I understand everything, though I'm especially focused about the whole Lone Digger shtick. I've heard Caravan Palace's music, and I like it, though I did avoid watching the Lone Digger animation. I just hope that, at some point, kids get a heads up about innapropriate music animation, vevos, or lyrics or at least get a version of the songs by their parents or other artists that are more censored. I know I would've loved that when I was a kid. I'm at the rewriting part, and I'm taking notes. I would enjoy a good pure-evil villain as well, while I haven't watched the more recent movies I do think a healthy variety would be just the spice of life that Disney needs. They don't need to make this a whole "no one's pure evil" era, they can spread it out and balance out the films features so that they each have a purpose, a point to each and every one, a sense of uniqueness to each part of this Disney era.

I only saw ads for it on instagram of all places! It didn’t catch my attention. I wish they went all out with the strange world aspect and made it dreamlike, surreal and even zany. Can’t believe I’m saying this but Avatar did the strange world aspect better 💀
My boyfriend and I watched the movie together and he told me the only real woke thing in the movie was the hair of Ethan’s love interest and how he felt like LGBTQ+ characters with dyed hair felt like a stereotype
Oh yeah, it’s one of the gayest fandoms tbh. Ace, gay, lesbian, bisexual, non-binary, and gender-fluid characters all in the literary universe. There’s also the possibility of the Rick Riordan Presents novels being adapted and MANY of the characters are queer in the novels. I only counted 2 without queer characters, (Pahua and the soul stealer, and Winston Chu verses the Whimsies) and even then Pahua and her friend Zhong have a lot chemistry together.
The thing is the vast majority of mainstream Americans do not want this content. They do not even have the level of interest to watch it if it just happened to be on. Nobody cared about it because no one cared about it.
I hate pointless conflicts created by misunderstandings and that's the literal climax of the movie. Like, any of the protags could've gone: "bitch, we drive you there to see. Its 3 minutes away" (they do so on the epilogue). That's my main gripe, but also the creature design. I'm a fan of allucigenia as much as the next guy, but when that's the literal most interesting design... Like come on, they really couldn't make anything more eye catching? After that everything is living formless mucus balls. Dunno, they could've made pg versions of iconic Lovecraft monsters, or add more beasts based on weird early life on Earth or literally anything better than what it had. Hey, maybe they should stop being homophobic and make actually good movies starring gay people!
